64/7 and 39/7 in two innings. We’re worse than the mid 90’s for a collapse. 60 all out against the Windies, 50 against Ireland, 60 against the cons at Leeds then more collapses in NZ and this test. They just can’t fucking bat.

Sibley isn’t good enough, Burns is fine but gave it away. Denley they have to keep due to lack of options, Root is a shit captain and it needs taking off him. Stokes is arguably one place too high at 5. Bairstow needs dropping forever, Buttler doesn’t score enough big runs and doesn’t play in the manner he got selected to play in the first place.

Not watched the interviews yet, but if Root says we are a work in progress and there are positives to take and that the group won’t think about it too long I think I might explode.

County championship has been totally betrayed by the ECB hopefully few more results like this it’ll be rectified. Re captaincy Id be inclined to tell stokes to step up whether he wants it or not. But given the choice between root and a marrow I’d pick the marrow.

Root has been a poor captain for ages and his wappy attitude seems to have been projected onto most of the rest of the team. Assuming he's not 100% responsible for everything that happens on the field then he's not exactly helped by a poor coaching set up. How many times have England let the opposition off with easy session wins by continually bowling short? It seems to have happened in almost every match for years.

poor coaching set up.

Can you explain this please?

Chris Sliverwood is head coach. Graham Thorpe is batting coach. Darren Gough was bowling coach in New Zealand

How is this set up poor?

Alec Stewart withdrawal from the process due to family reasons. Gary Kirsten was arrogant in the interview process and wanted x amount of time off each year and missing parts of yours.

The best players in country shouldn't need much coaching as they have been picked for the country cos they are best we got.

You have overlooked at county set up for 4 days cricket that is poor to say the least. The pitches aren't made for 4 day cricket. Played the format at the wrong time of the year. That's been the problems for many years. But the same old people overlooked these people.

We are going to accept that we don't have many world class players any more. We are going to lose games due to our batsmen aren't the best but it's the best we got

Root is our best captain we got atm. Stokes isn't interested in being full time captain.

Silverwood is currently head coach and bowling coach, a lot on the plate for one guy, especially with a piss poor captain.

Still looking for the right one.

But our attack should have experience to know how to bowl in those conditions.

Sounds like from reports in South Africa that either Anderson and Broad will be dropped for spinner Dominic Bess

Burns injured his ankle playing football and archer out by the sounds of it. Burns is a concern which itself shows how shit we are. Archer has probably solved them a problem as by all accounts they were looking to drop a seamer in favour of Bess.

Don’t fancy Crawley and Sibley opening much.

As I've already said. Continually bowling short as the go to tactic regardless of the situation - a tactic that has continually led to England losing session after session. That's coming from the coaches right? Or do you think Root has 100% control over all aspects? Add in some bizarre coin toss decisions. Surely that's decided as a group before the game? Or does Root just wing that too?

Whilst we're on Root. What's his obsession with playing football pre-game? Even Ashley Giles wanted to bin that as it's 'dangerous'.

As for the county set-up. It's true that the ECB seem to have pushed it aside as they focus on their cash cows.

Though there are a number of contradictions here in regards to the excuses given. Firstly, not so long ago county cricket used to be less competitive with just the one league and almost half a season of mostly dead rubbers. It also used to be played over just 3 days (then there was the period where they would play the one day game on the Sunday) in the middle of a Championship game - finishing it off on the Monday. Yet during that time the England team in general didn't collapse as they have done in recent years.

Overseas players (including the decent ones that play for their countries) have regularly stated that the standard of the county championship has been pretty decent/competitive.

The pitches may well be sub standard and a bit bowler friendly. But (to give a recent example). Labuschagne was playing on the same crappy pitches - and he came straight into the Ashes team and turned into the new Steve Smith.

Can't use the T20 as an excuse either. As all countries have their own domestic T20 competition.

And if, as you say, England players don't need coaching then why even bother with coaches at all? Should they get rid of all the hangers on - including the nonsensical sports scientists and the sympathy jobs such as James Taylor's England selector post. Let the captain pick the team sort out all the tactics?

I saw a few people on BBC Test Match Special complaining about Dominic Bess's inclusion in the team.

But what else were people expecting? What's the alternative?

Parkinson perhaps? Though he was poor in the warm up game and batting wise is another number 11 in the same mould as Archer, Broad and Anderson.

Meanwhile it looks like Root is starting to develop a short ball problem. His dismissal was like watching Bunny Broad. I hope he's in the nets right now working on it.

No that's coming from Bowlers unless Root has asked them to bowled very short.

Root and Sliverwood will work together as a partnership but Root is in charge on the field.

exactly my point. 4 day cricket is last on the list.

It need to be played in the main part of the summer.

well that's could be said for every cricket team? why do South Africa need Jacques Kallis as batting coach? players need help with sometime a technique fault or sometimes you footwork can be out of place? I suffer this at times whilst I was playing local cricket.

Well you need to have selectors who watch the county game? who else is going to watch the county game? Ed Smith cant watch every county game.

How are sport scientists nonsensical? very important part of sport now that we are

I agree regarding the short bowling. We do it too much for no obvious benefit. " If they miss, I hit " should be a fast bowlers motto. Bowling the middle out of the wicket is pointless, especially in the UK.
