I wonder if an English spinner has ever taken out the top 5 before in a test.  Heard before Bess is the first spinner to dismiss top 3 for England since Kevin Pietersen. Bizarrely

I think Jim Laker might have done😉

Chaddy, Jim Laker took 19 wickets in a test match, so he must have done!

I mean the last one to do before Bess did.

Good win by players.

Bess and Pope the standouts for me.

Breathtaking stats

https://www.espncricinfo.com/series/17417/scorecard/62814/england-vs-australia-4th-test-australia-tour-of-england-1956

Jim Laker's record of 19 wickets for 90 runs in a single Test match has stood since 1956 when I was just a small kid. I doubt it will ever be beaten.

Kumble is the only other bowler to take all 10 wickets in a single Test match innings.

I can't quite believe it's been raining in Africa.

Quick! Call Bob Geldof.

It might be time to retire Buttler from test cricket for a while. He hasn't got out of the twenties yet.

His glove-work isn't noticeably better than all the other wicket-keeper batsmen waiting in the wings either.

I think his glove work is significantly poorer than others. In port Elizabeth ball just kept going through him.

He’s a great idea in theory in that if we’ve got a score on the board he can come in and take the game away from the opposition. But in reality that never happens mainly because we haven’t got a score but even when we do he pushes and prods. Just don’t see the point of him in red ball cricket.

Zak Crawley has the lowest ever high score in a team innings of 400 or more.

Wood is batting like Archer allegedly can do. Not sure I’d play Archer if everyone is fit.

Very good Bowling performance by England.

We have a good set of bowlers for most conditions.

Anderson, Board, Woakes, Archer, Wood, Sam Curran, plus Stokes.

We can pick bowlers for different conditions now

Unless there are injuries it's hard to see how Archer would get back in the team.

Brilliant bowling and catching by England so far. So pleased for Mark Wood after all his injury problems

Got to say I agree with KP when he says Buttlers figures don’t match his ability. Josh is a test match batsman IMO. He’s not a Jason Roy who an out and out slogger, he’s very capable of playing the tempo required then lifting the pace when needed. He’s a quality batsman who can play the long game or be the destroyer.
I wouldn’t drop him, I’d back him.

Parky 3/9!!! Saqib 0/39 off 4 though. Not sure how Duckworth Lewis has possibly given the oppo a win when they were 193/6 with nos 7/8 in chasing 346. But won’t lose sleep over it in a warm up game.

England are certainly box office.

One crushing meltdown to lose off the last ball by 1 run and then 2 wickets from the last 2 balls to win by 2 runs.

Series square at 1-1.

I am glad I was alive to watch that masterclass in T20 batting by both sides.

T20 is Circus but its so watchable.

Got to say, some of the skills on show in t20 nowadays are unbelievable.

That was the best T20 series ever.

Normally there's a game ruined by D/L or an easy victory somewhere.

Is anyone else enjoying the BBC repeating Test Match Special recordings from recent games? Right now they are replaying the 2005 Ashes 2nd test at Edgbaston. England in some trouble at 29-3 in the second innings......
