Backroom DE. Posted July 23, 2016 Backroom Share Posted July 23, 2016 Lambert said that he didn't fit Lambert's diamond shape midfield we played. I kind of understand that, but it was strange he was never given a proper chance to have a run in the team, especially as his assist stats are always pretty high. I do wonder if there was a bit more to it.
dallydally
Just back from a weeks holiday and have to say very disappointed with the result yet again. I know its pre-season but the quality of the opposition isn't great. Additionally certain players - fanfared into the club - like Stokes, Feeney and Byrne are yet to make a significant mark. All a bit worrying

He's an old-school touchline hugger and Lambert wanted to play a diamond type system, think that's all it was
patrickvalery
Still think there's room for that type. Defenders and keepers hate dealing with crosses. Yes its often better if a winger can get to the byline so defenders are facing their own goal. But football doesn't have to be complicated. One thing which has worried me is the comments from both Graham and stokes. Graham said in the LT the other day about stokes being in the right positions to "flick it down". Then today stokes is in the LT saying about Graham "The main aspect is hes good in the air and I can play around him, I can feed off the flicks from him" I'm a little worried that neither are aware of their role and a little friction about who is going to be doing the donkey work and who is applying the finishing touches. Might be reading too much into it. But to me it sounded a little off.

Agreed PV but we don't have an aerially dominant centre forward such as Gestede anymore - although Graham is very good in the air. I think Conways days are numbered purely down to his limited skills (he does put a brilliant ball into the box) but is neither quick or tricky. Consumate pro and all that but can't see him playing much more without a target man. I do think Stokes will strike up an understanding with Graham as they - on paper - make a good pair, but am still unconvinced on him individually. We need an all-action right back, a ball playing centre half, a better left back than Hendrie, a partner for Evans - Possibly Lenihan, although I don't think that's a strong enough pair for a '4' in midfield and 2 strikers up top, one with pace and one with experience. All in all we're a fair way off even a top 10 side. Coyle needs to decide what system we're going to play first them we can see where we are. As it stands 15th, even that would be good all things considered.

Iceman
So we bring in Faisell Mcdoughnuts on trial, give him a few mins here and there. Dont play him against Blackpool, so what exactly is the point of this trial. This guy could have gotten a chance somewhere else, or signed for somebody else. Im very confused about giving a player a trial and not play him much.
Neal
If we're actually going to spend money on a player then personally would rather see us invest in a quick forward than a centre half.

G Somerset Rover
£2 million isn't bad when you consider he's in the last year of his contract. I reckon £2.5 - £3 million and Balaji will be starting the car himself.
