Lambert would be a deadly signing. Experience at this level. Won the division in fact. Was he top scorer that season as well? I would love  if we sign him

Bear in mind that was 2010/2011 so he'd have been 27/28 back then! That was a while ago

Ward was decent in the season with Lambert, you cant judge him on 20 minutes in a terrible team performance before he was injured, he was good when he came back in at the end of the season, he is experienced, he is comfortable on the ball, and he is better than the level of player we can attract.

Only reason we would need a centre back is if we don't have one of Mulgrew, Lenihan, Ward and Wharton, which to be fair is likely. All 4 I would be more than happy with.

We need a right back as first choice, a left back to compete with Williams who is poor, we really need a pacy winger, and 2 strikers.

Hopefully Gladwin and Smallwood can compete with Whittingham and Evans, and Stokes can compete with Dack as a number 10.

If not pacy wingers. Two pacy full backs would be good.

Mark Hughes was 36 I think when we signed him, played a full part in promotion, then the next season Man of the match in a major cup final we won.

Lambert would be the perfect target man/battering ram addition imo.

Good point, but we had duff, jansen and Gillespie buzzing about him and best midfielder in England at the time Dunny.

Even I will admit, get pace and we are looking good.

Sorry I don't mean to go off thread but is there a hint of sarcasm in this? Dunny best midfielder in England??

Graham and Stokes up front? Have we no other striker on the books? We need a goal scorer. Is Graham too comfortably? Looks like at times he is only jogging around the place. Would love to see Gallagher back or someone similar. He was a proper player.

I actually feel transfers will slow now. I think maybe 1 or 2 more closer to the start of the season maybe after one or two departures

Me too. Without wanting to sound negative after 2 arrivals in 2 days I said a few weeks ago that I expected that they would authorise an initial 'splurge' in terms of bringing in 4-5 decent looking players to fill the space freed up by outgoings. I'm pleasantly surprised that appears to have included a substantial outlay on fees by Lge 1 standards BEFORE any money has come in the other way. Lets wait and see what comes next.

They did something similar last summer in terms of giving Coyle permission to sign Graham/Stokes/Feeney early on because they'd saved a fortune in wages and we were critically short on numbers going into pre season.

Midfield is now looking a lot healthier than it was a couple of weeks ago. Defence could do with a couple of back ups but as it stands is strong providing people stay and stay fit. Up front is the next area of concern and I think we probably need to be spending some money on at least a couple of new forwards.

Happy with the business done so far, need some more and keep what we already have, which will be a bigger and more challenging test than what has happened so far....

Can't see anyone at all actually buying Stokes and that waster will sit on his contract rather than take a pay cut unless Rovers stump up a pay off. Shame because he'd be capable in this Div but his head and heart never came down here.

A very wiffy transfer and Coyle landed is with another lame duck there they should have withheld clownpants payout to pay off this guy instead.

Really flooks me off stuff like this !

Does anybody really know exactly what we have signed? I mean truly? Nobody can have much of a clue about the ones we have signed -it certainly wont be by watching them in action on a regular basis. There seems a lot of optimism around the incoming transfers but I am not sure what its based on.  £750k for Dack (a league one player pure and simple) looks an awful lot of money to me. Surely, we are about to see some of our best players in the departure lounge -none of this adds up.

Negative.

What went wrong with stokes? Stated of well, scored a couple, then out the side and nothing since?

Unlike some on here, I haven't a clue whether our signings are any good or not. I like what I hear from Tony Mowbray however and trust in his judgement.

I'm still trying to come to terms with our fixture list and think we should walk this league. Then again, we are where we are because of what we have become and won't get out of it if we adopt my mindset.

Thankfully Mowbray would appear to have a game plan, be a realist and here's hoping 2017/18 could be as enjoyable and successful as 1974/75 and 1979/1980 in not dissimilar circumstances. Success for me would be Rovers' fans being as one, travelling in great numbers throughout the season and there being 10,000 in the final away game to celebrate promotion.

In addition to the signings made so far, I think we need a 'nasty' central defender and either a winger or centre forward with some pace. I think Costello will be blooded at this level and will weigh in with a few goals.

COYB!

Is your specialist subject gross over exaggerations?

I think we must be 1 of the few teams in league 1 who are actually splashing the cash we've just been relegated but instead of dwelling & feeling sorry for ourselves down in the dumps we are actually being proactive & recruiting as a statement of intent that we are serious about getting promoted at the first time of asking. Some people still complain & aren't happy. Deary me.

Crazy how Coyle made such a fuss of getting him here, giving him a long large contract then basically freezing him out after he'd done ok in a few games. Yes he had Gally doing ok as well but he could have used Stokes a bit more.

Very odd one that but if he was playing up off the park it's no surprise seeing as he was a known goon, pish head anyway.

Ya, I don't care for him to be honest. He posted that he hopes we get the Dack from two seasons ago, not last season. Then a fan asked him how good is Dack at his best, Cryer responded low to mid table championship. I got a feeling of snideness off tweets, as I often do when he tweets about rovers.

He's spot on with that assessment to be fair. Even Gills fans can't believe they've got that much and thought he had gone backwards following that great year. Here is hoping bigger club new scenery and probably a better bunch of players around him he can have a stormer.

Bristol a bottom champs side just spent 5.3 million on a striker today so he's spot on, real quality usually costs, Brighton, Newcastle Hudds to a small extent all bought in players to get up. Then you've got Villa, Derby and others spending cash. When we get promoted we will require 10-15 million on top of usual turnover just to be able to run so Venkys have got some funding to start finding as we will need a new team.

Dack wouldn't get on the bench of those sides above but this level and age on his side he can no doubt over the next couple of years kick on and become the next hourihane type.

Let's just hope Dack can handle to expectation levels of being the big signing and coming to a much bigger club in stature and living away from his familiar presumably laid back low expectation surroundings.

I'm not sure why anyone should be "happy",we have been relegated FFS!

Hasn't stopped people celebrating like its promotion though, because they think that finally, after 7 years, we will win more games than we lose and they can walk away from Ewood with a smile on their faces.

On that logic we should hope for further relegation because we will surely win even more games in Div 4!

Splashing the cash!!! Wait and see who goes, we will never prosper under Venkys.

Yes we have been relegated but being unhappy about the situation will not instantly get us back promoted. In my life everybody gets a fair crack of the whip as from next season it's a clean slate all round as I've already said. I'm not going to be involved in he/she said this he/she said that. I'm going to support my team & watch a game of football plain & simple the way I like it with no hostility or animosity to anybody.

Yes he should be

That has to be midfield sorted now Dack, Wittingham, Smallwood, Gladwin, Evans and Tomlinson should be enough.

Yep all sorted

Maybe Graham is off and Lambert his replacement? With the players we have signed so far I doubt he's looking at playing two strikers

Graham is staying. He said this after the last game of last season

I think we play 4-2-3-1/4-4-1-1 formation. But we need a plan B which could 4-4-2 or 3-5-2.
