the original david brent
Yesterday I posted in the Newcastle game topic a query re the undersoil heating. I made my own enquiries and can confirm the following from a very good source: The undersoil heating has indeed broken down. The owners have thus far refused to pay the costs to repair it, hence the use of frost covers and specialist lighting to get the pitch fit for yesterday's game. They have paid for aforementioned covers and lighting, and there has now been an apparent change of heart re the undersoil heating, which is now due to be repaired. On a side note they have also paid £25,000 for a marquee between the Darwen End and Riverside to cater for large away followings. I personally find this staggering that the club will continually bend over backwards for away fans.

In reality what large away following justify that cost??? Preston??

I guess there aren't many pub alternatives to accommodate large away followings these days. The Postal Order can't hold everyone.

McClarky
I would think the marquee is to cash in on large followings rather than bend over backwards to accommodate them. The lack of pubs round the ground have given them this opportunity.

Lancaster Rover
If Leeds bring 7000 and each spend £6 quid on beer the marquee has paid for itself and made a tidy profit, the purchase of the Marquee is a weirdly sound business decision from the loons. Brainfreeze
Is this the marquee signing we've all been waiting for?!
JHRover
Leeds, Villa and Preston will all bring 5,000+ and in the cases of Leeds and Villa probably sell out the Darwen End. It will pay for itself several times over by the end of this season. Problem is will it make any money in League One? No Sheffield United next season so will have to make do with Bradford as the big away following. Cheston will be praying that we get past QPR and then have a Liverpool, City or United in the next round of the Cup so we can be the obliging hosts again. I can't see Oldham, Fleetwood and Bury spending much in there.Oldham could well be in a league Two and Fleetwood and Bury don't have the numbers to justify it.Spending money on away fans whilst watching the club head towards relegation and won't spend money to repair existing undersoil heating is utterly brainless. arbitro
If this is true then it really could be indicative of what the future holds for us. If yesterday's game would have been called off it would have resulted in a big loss of earnings as Sky wouldn't have paid, countless tickets returned, food waste, programmes potentially binned and police costs to name a few things. Clearly this went over the heads of Pasha, Cheston or any other of the lunatics running the asylum.

Paul
I think it was the Huddersfield game prior to the Deepdale match I thought the grass was exceptionally long. This could have been deliberate to take an advantage away from Huddersfield? At Deepdale I was immediately struck by how much better the pitch looked by comparison to Ewood. In fact the whole place looked better in terms of maintenance.

In fact the whole place looked better in terms of maintenance. I used to be in the Deepdale area fairly often and it struck me how much maintenance work always seemed to be going on around the ground- repairs, painting, jet washing the stands etc. Now I can't speak for what goes on at Ewood during the working week, but I only need to look out from my seat towards the corner of the Blackburn End/Jack Walker to see peeling paint, grime and what could be actual moss growing. Mike Graham
The Venkys even got rid of the roses planted between the club shop and the JW statue. We need a petition. 'Bring back the roses. Buy a new jet washer.' Seriously there was an older guy who used to do maintenance all week, put down salt outside the stands when it was frosty etc. Just the sort of job I and many others would be happy to do. AJW
From my seat in the BBE i can see that a staircase has been erected into the side of the Riverside , i am assuming that its some form of entry point for the cameramen who now operate from there , the staircase appears to be supported by what looks like 2 wooden crates ( i kid you not ) a doorway has been cut into the roof on the Riveside allowing entry , if that doorway is straight than i will be winning this years Derby whilst riding Jason Lowe , to comply with health and safety issues black and yellow tape has been stuck around said doorway ..... its the most amateurish thing i have ever seen at a football ground
