I thought the Qataris emerged after Venkys bought the club ?

As for the Australian was that the character called Dan something where it was never clear whether there were actually funds in place ?

I agree with you that the debt is now effectively irrelevant. It is now so large that there is no prospect of it being paid off by the club's operations so it only comes in to play on a sale

Qataris had two goes, once with the Trust in 2007 which never became public knowledge and once with the Raos which did.

The Australian wasn't called Dan and was worth £7bn at the time he was interested. He was the guy who organised the Sydney Olympics.

Thanks.

The Australian does not appear to have followed through on his interest in English football anywhere else so I would guess that it may not have been that serious.

If the Qataris were serious, the Trust would've bit their hands off.

The fact they sold to a bunch of Indian chicken-farmers proves they weren't fussy.

Found this interview with Daniel Williams about a proposed takeover in June 2007.

The bit in bold and italics is quite the prediction :)

So any takeover would involve substantial funds being made available to the manager to spend in the transfer market?

Yes. The institutions we have who are interested in doing this deal - and they have to remain confidential until the very end if we do end up doing a deal - are very, very large investment institutions and you don't make an investment in a Premiership football club without being willing to dig into your pockets, and make money available to ensure the club does well in the Premiership.

Say we bought the club for £40m - not that that's the figure - and then said right go out and get us into Europe, we'd probably find ourselves in the Championship, and then League One after that (if we didn't then invest further).

2007 story about the proposed 67 million Rovers takeover  LINK

Correct. After his failed attempt at Rovers he moved on to the Rochester Rhinos.

That one didn't work out either for him. Rochester are currently not playing, they hope to come back next season.

With tantric in charge of that one i'm sure many wheels were greased once he'd sweet talked Barry and his shonky friends into it.

A lot of water passed under many bridges between 2007 and 2010. If you read the link Vinjay posted, 2007 was the start of the events which lead up to the 2014 judgement.

Absolutely no way would the Trust have entertained most of the 2010 bidders in 2007.

Can you discuss in more detail both bids.

Was the Australian Michael Knight

Did we not play in Austraila in tournement that involved Rangers? Was that part of him getting to know the club?

Michael Knight chairman of the Sydney organising committee. No mention of billionaire status though.

Yes, we also played Sydney ;) If it is the same person who Phillip is aware of as that was part of the Australian consortium (rumours were very strong here and the wealth figure quoted  adds up) he and his family were shareholders of Sydney and became major shareholders two years later, sold up this year. The person rumoured to be part of the consortium was Frank Lowy (Westfield Corporation). Also linked to Leeds around the same time

No idea, Phillip will probably know more, rumour is that some people with interests in the Venky's deal going through made sure that was the only option on the table

Anyway all water under the bridge now, so anybody got plans for the glorious 10 year anniversary next year :) wonder if the V's will get the band  back together

I'll chip in to crowdfunding for the fake snow :) if mother nature doesn't come to the party

Ha ha if anyone talks them into coming again it certainly won't be at that time of year !

An end of season dead rubber probably but if it did snow in April/May and they got belted again it's obviously global warming to blame nothing else ?

Steve Kean is hated already. If what I hear what he did is true and became public knowledge, it would be him and not Guy Fawkes on the bonfires of Blackburn tonight.

They looked like a made up company anyway.

I can assure you they aren’t a made up company, had a box for years but didn’t renew for this season, guy who owns company rarely made an appearance, rather go to the races, but let his friends in every week, who, btw have taken on the box this season, as already said probably got a bit of free advertising this season until signs removed from stand.

Do hint!

I replied to the post suggesting that efforts were made to ensure the Kentaro-backed Venky's were the only bidders.

The Australians were a major threat then they were somehow out of the equation and not because they had done anything or had lost interest apparently.

If half of what he allegedly did is true it's no wonder he went hiding as far away as he could.  Hopefully something will catch up with him one day, i notice he hasn't had his mates in the media big him up for a while.

Apart from that tit on Talkcrap of course.

The people that Kean were connected to, could have caused more damage to BRFC to anyone in the clubs 144 year history. There are lots of little snippets of information all over the place and if anyone who ever backed the cretin, knew what was really going on, then they are almost as bad.

Kean made a packet, as did others and if some of what went on wasn't illegal, I will eat my hat.
