Interesting. Guess he's taking the blame for keeping Pulis on last summer (giving him an improved deal before sacking him this season) and their current league position. Owner there likely to be more interested and concerned than those who owned Rovers and left him to it.

Think his biggest mistake was giving Pulis a new deal when they were starting to struggle. They made a mess of recruitment then kept Pulis on too long this season by which time the damage was done. Pardew hasn't had enough time to do anything meaningful.

Not sure what good sacking Williams will do at this stage of the season, as I''ve always said he doesn't stick the ball in the net at one end or keep them out at the other.

That said it would appear he stuck by Pulis too long initially then the appointment of Pardew was a terribly unimaginative and seemingly ultimately unsuccessful one.

This thread puts the blame on JW for our decline too...

2 years ago we had a real chance to kick on and establish ourselves as not only the top midland team but also in the premier league. As per normal we didn’t take it, too happy to do the bare minimum and try it on the cheap. We appoint a chairman from yesterday who presided over Blackburn’s decline, the owner sold up to the only people who would give him the money but in doing so had nothing left to invest in the club, cheap option players, no long term planning.

It appears that their new Chinese owner took advice when buying the club to install a highly rated and experienced executive structure and let them run it for him. Williams had a very high stock so got that job. It also appears he was given a lot of power around the place - including bringing in Goodman to support him - so he has to carry the can for their struggles.

It may just come down to trust. If their owner has lost all faith in Williams following the events of the last 6 months and their likely relegation then he might want to get rid now and go again with someone with fresh ideas. As you say, the Pardew appointment was unimaginative. To be honest his appointments at Rovers were also unimaginative - Ince was just an attempt to copy the Hughes success but obviously wasn't likely to work and Allardyce was the obvious solution to our situation and he didn't need to look very far on that occasion. Pardew was out of work and had lots of experience but not the track record of Allardyce and too much to do in terms of style after Pulis.

The ignorance of football fans to the plight of others. They probably thought the same when he was appointed and were also the type to have sympathised with poor old Steve Kean. How little they know...

Always liked JW but he was hardly infallible. The appointment of Ince was absolutely daft. But then he did go for Souness, Allardyce and Hughes, all strong appointments.

Ultimately a safety first chairman which is fine, but the investors always going to want something more innovative.

Wouldn't be surprised to see them go the Watford/Southampton/Swansea route of edgy unusual appointments. Not sure there's much proof that's more effective than tried and tested but I suppose you have to give something different a go.

I can understand sticking with Pulis - I don't think many would have predicted things going that badly under his management. Hiring Pardew, however, was a joke of a decision and if that was down to JW then I'm afraid he deserves the boot. Seems like it's a little late to be making that call now, though.

It was a typical JW move to tie Pulis down on a long term contract, he would have calculated that he would pretty much guarantee PL football, didn't work out that way...

 

Was it Williams choice or owner choice?

Pardew was decent. He trying to a change negative playing style in good attacking style. Last night they were unlucky and should have 2 nil up before chelsea starting playing.

Anybody following Hughes was going to be tough task for most managers. Hughes bought alot of to Rovers like good signings, good attacking football and top 10 finish. Plus European football

Never will forget finishing 6th with Bellamy, Kuqi and Dickov in striker department. 

Santa Cruz, McCarthy, Bentley, Nelsen, Samba were great signings. 

Will never forget those great European games and nights
