To think humankind has been advancing for thousands of years to be capable of reaching those dizzy heights! I honestly don't think that's what God had in mind for us!

Is the Daily Mail a plot to turn brains into soup?

For the people saying all we have to do is win the nine games to go up what is our record for straight wins on the bounce? It is fine a theory but ain't going to happen. Just adding a dose of realism.

Mowbray needs to stay positive and play his best team and we'll be fine. Now is when promotions are won and lost. Now is not the time for self doubt. If he changes his team to suit....sorry counter...the opposition we'll be in the play offs. Mowbray's team selections are now key.

March, 3 matches, all at home. May, one game at home.

April, 7 games, 5 away.

Now our home form hasn’t been much better than the away, plus only Charlton is an away game against a top 6 challenger. But it’s going to be some month, with a lot of travelling thrown in...

But that's assuming Shrewsbury win all their games which is highly unlikely. It couldn't be simpler - we have to match Shrewsburys points tally for the rest of the season.

Prefer to beat Shrewsbury's total by 2 points ideally but your theory is correct. It s just those who are saying nine games couldn't be simpler that are most likely be the same who at the end of the season will say we blew it if we don't win 9 and end up in the play offs.

4 or 5 of ours and Shrewsbury's remaining games could be seen as potentially tricky, especially against the sides with something still to play for. Wigan's aren't easy either for that very reason.

Between us and Shrewsbury we both play same 4 clubs. But look at the dates for the Peterborough games, at our place on the Wednesday then down to our promotion rivals 3 days later!

Lets hope we win easy but avoid roughing them up too much as they've a big favour to do for us

Haha ridiculous comment, wait til you see the second yellow ;) foul at best!!

Not sure you’d say we have a discipline problem ?

All I, can see STFC is you guys, losing players through suspension, which surely can't carry on if you're going to succeed at this crucial stage of the season.

As the match temperature rises during games, have to ask the question, are you guys going over the edge with these dismissals. Without watching you guys, id be asking, are your players prone to being wound up, thus they end up losing their match cool and ending up on the disciplinary ladder.

Thanks for sharing the fair play chart with us, hadn't seen this before. Good luck for the rest of the season!

To answer your previous question, I think eight consecutive League wins under Howard Kendall in the promotion season of 79/80 is the record.

On your point above, it will be difficult to say we didn't blow it if we miss out on automatic promotion by less than 2 points given what happened in the Wigan home game. Its unlikely either ourselves or Shrewsbury will win every game until the end of the season, the probability is both of us will average roughly two points a game and it will be exceptionally tight.

As long as we win our game in hand first.

No. At the moment we are third favourites according to the table (points trump games in hand) but I think we will go up in spite of that current situation.

Games in hand (plural) might be trumped by points on the board when we're talking about six or eight points from three or four games but not when its only one game behind.

There's only nine games left and we can reach a maximum of 103 points and Shrewsbury can only reach 102. For that reason I'd say we're currently clearly second favourites to go up. If the situations were reversed and say we only draw Thursday night I'd say at that point Shrewsbury were now clear second favourites to go up.

8 games to go, 1 point difference and 1 team would be clear favourites to go up? I think some are cracking under the pressure:)

Correct. It’s simply too close to call, all one can do is have confidence in a team and manager who have lost once in the last 26 league games.

Wigan have an edge but that is all it is, an edge.

Think about it realistically. Three sets of fans, three different views which will vary weekly. Today:

Shrewsbury: “we are top, the pressure is on them to catch us”

Wigan: “all we have to do is win our games in hand”

Rovers: “we should be top by Thursday night”

Repeat as appropriate!!!
