Brereton on a permanent deal is the sort of thing we need to be doing as a club - owning assets that will be worth something in the long run, players who will develop alongside the club with the Dacks, Lenihans, Armstrongs.

Like how Nixon is still pushing his theory that Venkys have suddenly come into some extra money and have decided to spend it on Rovers. Also can't resist a sly dig in his headline with 'chicken business'.

On loan until January with no agreement to buy is not impressive and if that is the case doesn't show any serious investment from the owners, and no doubt Forest would be perfectly happy for him to come here for 6 months and play regularly before returning to them probably increasing in value if he scores a few. Not the answer.

We both know that his head will turn to signing permenant if he likes it here and he gets a chance. That said I agree and hope we have some sort of agreement in place.

If Karanka isn’t going to include him, it doesn’t matter what they want for him - if he’s any ambition he will be wanting to move on.

Interested to know who the others are.

Tbf Sharpe said he doesn't think Rovers will be able to commit to the fee which Forest are looking for, so doesn't really rule it out. A loan with a option to buy is ideal in this situation because if it doesn't work out then we wouldn't of lost out on the large fee, and if it does we get a promising striker who can improve our team for many years to come.

However if there is no option to buy, if he is successful then it will only mean Forest will ask for a larger fee which we may not be able to afford.

If he really was worth 12M Forest would be keeping him and playing him!

But this is what happens when you run out of options and time.

Are you critiscing the fact we are going for this guy? A highly rated youngster who was linked with united and Liverpool not so long ago. He sounds like a great option to me.

Stark contrast to what he was pushing last week which was that the cash was there to make such a purchase should Rovers want to do it. So either he's back in non-committal mode after getting ahead of himself last week or he's being fed something else by Mowbray/Rovers.

A loan with an option to buy is not likely to happen. I'd be very surprised if Forest would agree to such a thing unless they were desperate to get rid of him. Surely it suits them to either have it as a guaranteed buy in January or alternatively as a loan with no option to buy? A guaranteed buy now ensures they will get a decent fee whatever happens, a short term loan enables them to sell him for more should he do well, whereas a loan with an option to buy for Rovers means that we're in the driving seat on what happens and if he fails miserably or gets a bad injury they are left to pick up the pieces.

Disagree about Sharpes comment, as by the sounds of it we bid over 5 million for Brerton  however if they want 12 million then surely that's too much...

I would sooner spend that amount on 3 players...

When he said we could do a deal, the figure was 4-5 million for Freeman. He says we can't do the Brearton deal at the figures Forrest want, which is quoted at 12 million. So no back tracking. Pretty straight forward really.

I assume he’s criticising the fact they’ve slapped  12M price tag on him and don’t deem him good enough to play for them.

So Forest are in a position to demand £12 million for a 19 year old who isn't going to be getting in their team?

If Forest were asking for that amount we wouldn't still be negotiating with them. You don't offer £5 million if the asking price is £12 million and then go back for more if you can't reach the required level.

Clearly the asking price is significantly less.

If Brereton was or is going to be the next big thing then Forest would have him in their team..why loan out to another championship side when he can be playing in the championship.

If hes good enough hes old enough..obviously Karanka sees something he doesnt like whilst TM sees something he does.

Loan to buys make me uneasy, what if he's absolutely garbage during the loan period, how will fans then react to him being here longer term.

You take that risk with any player whether you buy straight out or .loan to buy ..you can always end up with a dud!

I think it would be a mistake to assume Forest are a rational actor in the way us Rovers fans are thinking.

They have spent a fortune this summer, wages are presumably enormous so this is a promotion or bust approach. Is there a place for a promising 19 year old in such a scenario? Apparently not. Why wouldn't he even get into a completely reserve XI League Cup squad last night?

Remember the report they appointed an agent to get rid of Brereton a day before the deadline?

The evidence is pointing to there being something in this Brereton move.

You are tying yourself up in knots :D

We don't know what they are demanding, but it must be more than 4-5 million. Even if it's 3 or 4 million more, that is considerable. Double in fact

True, however with a player you buy I think they get more time to bed in. If a player comes in who is crap on loan and we know 6 months down the line we're going to have to shell out x amount on someone we already know is a dud it will stick in the craw a bit IMO.

Maybe ..or six months down the line on a straight buy you still say feel we ve wasted X amount on this guy ..swings n roundabouts for me ,you just hope you dont get that dud !
