Can’t see that for a second with their striker options. Assombalonga, Gestede, Hugill and Fletcher and Braithwaite can also play there.

I was thinking maybe somebody like West Brom/Villa with their new owners? Nixon only said interest, and most places, including the Forest reporter who, like nixon, seems to make it up as he goes along, have us as a very likely destination before the end of the window.

Sylla has scored 10 in 32 in the championship in his first season. 4 in 20 last season. Depends on the deal, but he certainly isn't the total car crash some are saying on here.

Why can is he 5th choice at QPR then with their fans laughing at the prospect of us taking him on. Hell they are bottom of the league.

I think Brereton is a talent Chaddy but I'm hoping it's not going to be too expensive.5 or 6 million yeah I'd definitely take him even maybe a deal rising to 8, any more than that and surely we could have found better value.

I will back Mowbray's decision though but really hope there is nothing in this Sylla link.

Wish I could just fast forward to next Friday to be honest, see what squad we have and focus on the football.

I would take him. I think I would pay up to 10 mil for him

Cant see him being a Pulis type player. Not a target man type

This thing with closing the transfer window but still having the loan window open with potential for loans to buy is all a bit stupid I think

I agree this closing the window early has been nothing short of a mess and done nothing at all different. I can understand the principles of closing it early but everything now to be closed 2 or 3 days for loans aswell. I would rather go back to the old system tbh

You know when you buy a car and the seller wants £6k for it and then £8k then £12k , what do you do ?

We aren't a car tho Tyrone but buying a player with great potential and talent. His value will only go up by playing and developing him.

I get the £14 million is too much in part as explained above as it's the whole budget (or at very much most of it) and as we both agree we need at least 3 other players.

But mainly I don't think £14m is feasible because we a) have £129 million of debt, b) it comfortably smashes our spending record from both when we were a well run club and when Venkys were releasing funds in the early tenure of our championship existence (personally I think they made more than that on fees out but I digress). 14 million is a huge jump and that we've not done so before in a range of other circumstances suggests it's not feasible. C) there's financial fair play which with our attendances and income streams we'd run foul of with a £14 million expense, even over several years. D) The risk - I don't think we'll be relegated but the possibility is there - burdening the club with £4 m + for the next 3 years doesn't make us resilient to that and E) because Venkys net spend over the last 3 years has been very limited, and certainly not to the tune of this size imbalance whatsoever.

On top of all these (hopefully) well reasoned arguments my gut reaction too is we can't afford it. I think from many others reaction too £14 million seems a risk too far.

Our previous record fee buys an experienced England international and multiple PL winner with shed loads of goals to his name - this one gets a player with 50 championship games and 10 goals but has potential.

I hope theres nothing to the Sylla links. His signing would not only be poor in terms of the players ability, but it would also be quite symbolic in that we wanted Freeman, as I believe Mowbray acknowledged (correct me if im wrong), which would have been a statement of intent to pinch the best player for a decent fee from a side destined to struggle. Fast forward a couple of weeks and we sign a player who even before they made 2 shrewd signings of proven Championship forwards, was 3rd choice behind Washington and Smith, 2 very poor Championship strikers. Hope its the usual speculation rubbish. Following on from the Rodwell signing it would be a worry.

With Brereton, as I said to @Bigdoggsteel it is fine to critique the potential fee, his poor goal record thus far and as mentioned by the Forest fan on here, his struggles to hold the ball up. It shouldnt be a case of being happy just because we are spending money. That said, most would acknowledge it would have a level of ambition amidst it, the size of the fee, the potential he has, even if all dont agree that it would be the wisest way to spend such money. Which is probably a hypothetical debate anyway.

Why does Brereton need to be able to hold the ball up? can we not play a different way like we did at Hull and won. We got our target man striker already in the club. If you want another target man type do you have any suggestions?

Yes we can agree on we need 3 players in. Striker, wide man and centre back/centre mid(depending on where Rodwell will play and if Travis gets loan out)

Your argument is well thought out and I cant argue against your points

Come off it. What list must he be off? We must be some way past the Z list by now and back on AAand BB etc.

After the generally positive reaction to the signing of RodwellI I think if we were linked with Bradley Orr and Leon Best someone would come on here trying to defend it and saying "Trust Tony" and  if it was good enough for him it's good enough for them.

Think the words I used were total car crash... Don't think I said he was an amazing signing but he has scored in this league and would depend on what we are paying.

Seems like we have two polar opposites  people who say every signing is a great one, the other that Armageddon is coming and then a few who like me are waiting and seeing.

Wes hoolahan is a freebie released by Norwich must be a decent shout if he is fit

One should ask , why was he released from Norwich ???

Is he too old or just finished ?

Cos Norwich are no great shakes and haven't been for a few years !!

Next question would be why has nobody else snapped him up yet.

And what if he can't hack the pressure of the fee and just goes into his shell ? That's happened plenty of times.  Kevin Davies being the classic example. Then we've blown our dosh.

We need a target man because we can't play like we did at Hull every week, I wish we could. Teams will come to Ewood and deny us space for the quicker players to run into.
