Ben Brereton is 20yrs Old (2-0) and has represented England at U19 and U20 level. He has also played in 79 Championship games. You’re writing him off. Let that sink in.

Give your heads a wobble lads.

He has nothing about him and/or Mowbray isn’t using him properly.

What you forget is that these “wobble heads” have seen a heck of a lot more players than you over the years - and more Rovers players than Mowbray ever will.

Their opinions do actually count even if they don’t have coaching badges.

Brereton was a poor signing. Something some fans will only admit once he leaves. He won’t be the first nor the last.

The bit I don’t get is why everyone is so upset that our billionaire owners are down £7 million. It’s their money, not ours.

Danny Graham did the business last year and they’ve rustled up another £5 million to buy someone else. Brereton being here hasn’t hurt us in any way as far as I can see.

Apart from the £7 mill not being spent on players who would benefit us, the impact on FFP and Rovers budget then hasn't hurt us at all!

1 appearance for England at U20 level and only 1 appearance for England since March 2017. Those days are well gone.

26 Championship appearances for Rovers, 1 goal and 2 assists at an average of 27 mins playing time per game. No stats for good chances missed or corner flags hit.

To be fair to the player he had been played in wide areas a lot and probably is still trying to work out what Mowbray wants from him, like most of us.

His development appears to have stalled or hit a brick wall.

He is only 20, a nice change from 'he's only n n n n n n nineteen'

I wish him well in his recovery from injury and that he can prove his doubters wrong.

Personally I think we have spunked on a spent force.

So far he has to.put poor signing but I wont write him off as a player.

For me, Mowbray hasnt used him right since he joined. His best form came under Mark Warburton whilst at Forest.

I think he is a bigger flop than Grabbi and Davies, lightweight and no composure don’t think he will ever cut it in England. Might make a half decent career in Scotland for himself.

Do you not think that perhaps wages and fees have moved on from the late nineties and early 2000’s?

Comparison with a transfer the same fee 20 years ago ignores an awful lot of changes in football since.

Also it’s funny that people are now concerned about how this affects our FFP, I thought FFP was the perfect excuse owners not to invest?

Time to log out anyway. I don’t half get frustrated by close minded “know it all” comments, which likely come from views that haven’t seen BB play more than a handful of games in his best position.

Curious post! Nobody's seen Brereton play more than a handful of games in his best position, because he hardly ever plays in any position.

Who has a better view then? How?

Surely it shows as an expense for Rovers and for FFP that cant be spent more wisely?

Given that most on here think Mowbray is rubbish in the transfer market then surely, if he hadn’t bought Brereton, he’d have wasted it on whoever he bought instead? Or, if the belief is that he would’ve spent it wisely, then that makes Brereton an aberration of an otherwise astute manager?

There was something inexplicable about this deal right from the off. It went completely against our normal transfer policy. Maybe the truth will come out one day but I still can't figure it out. If he'd have cost us £500k It would still have been a gamble but £7 mill ? I've not seen anything that tells me he'll be any better than Samuel and that's roughly what we paid for him.

Stop digging is my advice. Your original post was bad enough---don't try to shirt the blame to the rest of the Board!

Whatever anyone thinks of Mowbray's transfer record, this particular one was spectacularly bad. Easily his worst.

By digging do you mean pointing out the logical inconsistencies of the prevailing wisdom on here?

Every manager has a worst transfer. Personally, I’m happy that this manager has hardly played his.

We have to give him a chance , no-one else will anything like what we paid for him. Thing is, we need him now.

You can't justify the transfer however hard you try. How is he a "quality footballer by the way?" What have you seen in him to make that assessment?

You started off asking who cares if our billionaire owners were down £7M? You were told why it matters, now you criticise "the prevailing wisdom" on here as if you hadn't posted rubbish.

That's what I mean by "stop digging"!

Have we ever gotten a final number on the Brereton transfer? £7m seems to be regularly bandied about on here of late, though the latest reference I've seen to the fee in the LT is £6m. Furthermore, my rough extrapolations from the 17-18 accounts suggested the initial outlay was about £5m.

I'm still hopeful we'll get something out of Brereton in the end, but I wonder what performance components there may be to the transfer. Maybe it's something like £5m initially, another £1m in instalments, and then another £1m depending on performance? Purely guessing. Probably not on pace to trigger many of any performance clauses at this point in time...

(I know I'm splitting hairs...)

I totally agree Tyrone.

I'm not someone who gets on players backs, wish Brereton well in his recovery, hope I'm proved wrong and he makes a good 'un for us in the future. However, forget the stats and what position he's been played in, based upon what I have seen of him, he does not possess any attributes to be a decent forward. Pace, control, strength, vision, eye for goal, passing ability, good with his head etc, he has demonstrated none, of which I would consider most if not all imperative for any player, never mind forward.

I'd love BB to prove us doubters wrong, but I do not see how he would even get on the bench when he is fit.  We've already got Graham, Gally and Armstrong rotating regularly with Samuel and Chapman showing form in the under 23s.

Hes going to have to show some serious form for the under 23s when he comes back otherwise he is waiting for cup games to get a sniff.

I don't remember Sherwood being pilloried, Wilcox on the other hand had half a season of real abuse. Then he became a different player overnight.

So why £7M then. Couldn't we have got him for less? Or better still, not bothered and got 2 specialist defenders?

I wouldn’t have signed him at that price myself. Just merely saying the price tag isn’t the lads fault personally.

Oh yes he was. He played like an absolute drain and was a significant reason we went from leaders to finishing 6th in our promotion season.

Personally, I reached a point of never wanting to see him in a Rovers shirt again.

I was wrong...

One of the most ridiculous posts I've ever read on here.
