Out of curiosity...how many players need to be injured for it to become a legitimate excuse...?

Against a team bottom of the league by 5 points and 19 points below us, how about the entire first team squad ?

How many do you think, just out of curiosity ?

Does anyone think Rothwell would do better as a right winger than a central midfielder?

From what I've seen of him he seems very quick especially over the first 10 yards and he has more technical ability than Bennet.

I think he would bring a bit of a risk in terms of defensively but I'd rather risk him on the right than the left as Nyambe is the best fallback we have at the club.

If he kept his player pushed back and restricted them from getting forward then you'd thing Nyambe would be able to deal with a winger 1 vs 1 instead of 1 v 2.

Personally I think he's best wide on the left. He has the skill and pace to beat a man on the outside and he would also be able to come inside on his right foot and link up with Dack

They need to try him out there in training matches. First team defence and Second team attack v First team attack and Second team defence etc. It doesn't seem to happen these days. The second best centre forward I've ever seen at Rovers  would have ended up as a pretty average reserve left back if we hadn't given him a go up front.

Fred Pickering. Didn't Jack Marshall switch Andy McEvoy's switch position too and make him a much better player ?

Malcolm MacDonald (Supermac) started out as a left back too

Yeah Jack specialised in moving players around, McEvoy was an average wing half ( Midfield player for the kids ) who he turned into a goals machine. Keith Newton was also a wing half who he converted into a England international full back. Mike England was another midfielder who he turned into a World class centre half.

" Marshall's miss-fits " they were called at the time.

Woy Hodgson had a French international who turned down a cul-de-sac.

Incredibly harsh to judge Rothwell on the basis of the limited opportunities he's had this season. Sheff Utd apart (which Otg seems to be focusing on) I think he's done quite well in his brief cameo chances although I must say out of the two Palmer looked a far better player to me. We do however need someone of that ilk in the side with a bit of flair and creativity as otherwise the balance in the side is wrong and you're completely reliant on a moment of magic from Dack. If he doesn't produce, as a rule we're stuffed.

Who are Lambert's 5 other signings besides Judge? He does love a January splurge. He signed about 12 in January when he was here. He wasn't backed though apparently  Hopefully he will force Ipswich's best striker out of the club by Saturday (if they have one) like he did with Rhodes at Rovers. Dreadful manager.

Smash him Tony. Smash him hard.

8-0 Rovers.

Hee hee. Enjoyed that rant. Spot on and quite Churchillian.

You know better than that Jim, it's 11 versus 11 on Saturday. That's all that matters. I ended up playing on the losing side in plenty of games were we were going to win in a canter.

If your mental attitude isn't right before you know it you've handed the initiative to your opponents and it's not easy to get it back.

Agree, which is why Mowbray will probably have his excuses lined up by Friday night over what could go wrong. Is it too much to hope that instead of limping to the inevitable 1-1 draw to see a ruthless Rovers put these sorts of teams to the sword?

1-1 draw for me also I'm afraid. I'd love to see us slaughter a team but the way we play doesn't lead to us making enough clear cut chances to slaughter teams.

Whilst I do agree that he can perhaps consider himself unfortunate not to have played more minutes, especially considering the alternatives. And I do agree that we are sadly short of flair and creativity. I remain unconcinced that Rothwell is the answer at the moment.

You compare him to Brereton and you can at least see raw ability, hes quick and he can beat people, theres definitely something there. But hes yet to be sculpted into a particular position, ive read that he sees himself as a central midfielder but id never trust him there, he needs to be in the final third where his risks are more likely to be rewarded rather than cost us going the other way.

But the more hes played, the less convinced I become. Im not too sure hes had a particularly positive impact in admittedly mainly cameos, hes yet to score or assist (unlike Palmer who was derided in comparison) and hes just continiously run into blind alleys, often in dangerous areas. The Sheff United game was a prime example of why I can understand Mowbrays distrust.

Like I said I think Rothwell has shown signs of promise although if I had the choice I think Palmer looked a better player.

One thing I will say in defence of Palmer/Rothwell/Brereton though is that as the season wears on and you're only getting a few minutes here and there every few games, it must get harder and harder to impress because of the lack of match practice and obviously the pressure is on to plait sawdust or you'll be dropped again.

Even harder in Brereton's case when you're out of position. Not that he's shown a huge amount obviously.

I think Rothwell belongs on the wings he doesn’t seem to have the intelligence to play at cm, though it’s early days for him yet. Or if he is in midfield have him in a more pure midfield three just to lessen responsibility and chance of crucial mistake. Any promise he’s shown though is when he’s on the wing running at the fullback, he’s really not afraid to drive straight at them which is good.

Sorry about the FA Cup last night.  Wanted you to do it, seriously, hoped you'd have a good run and make the later rounds.   It's a shame but going to extra time worked in our favour to a small extent as your players only have a short time to rest and we'll be more fresher for when the time arises.

Not sure about what to expect.   A trip to Blackburn provides some vivid memories such as the 1994 last game escape and winning in the FA Cup soon after when you were League Champions.    We'll field some new players that have come in and many seem excited about Lambert (he has written a letter to the fans thanking them for their support and patience)     After the rubbish that came before the only way is onwards.

Has a tendency to play one up front and hope that is thrown aside for when we visit.   I can see it now, Sears Keane or Jackson up front, with Lankester and Quaner to bring on as further options.   I'm worried about Dack and Graham as I see them as good players who can cause opposition sides a number of problems but we'll see how it goes.    We have to win given our situation, running out of games and points in the weeks ahead.   Not saying it'll be easy but I think we can give you a game regardless of our league placing.   Probably bring a good number up too.     There's something of a feel good factor about the club right now even if the threat of League One hangs over the team like a massive shadow.

I think we'd love you to play two up front and come at us at Ewood. Teams who shore up against us at home are usually the ones who take points away.

Out of curiosity, why did you want us to do well in the FA Cup so much?

Lambert will try and get them working he upset a few here with his training sessions after they'd been in a lovely comfort zone for too long. One other thing about him though is he is very good at saying all the right things to disgruntled fanbases but not good on delivering much else. You'll probably have a little purple patch under him before the novelty wears off of and he announces he's leaving .......with yet another mutual settlement.

Best of luck after Saturday.

You might well be aware that we have an awful habit of Conceding late goals, and after extra time the other night I would imagine this may well be one of those games where late goals could be scored. Depending on who starts for us, that was absent on Tuesday, the last 15/20 minutes might be a struggle.

I always thought Mick McCarthy had done a great job with you, keeping you in the league every season. I am not a big fan of Lambert at all, but I do hope he keeps you up. Would rather see Bolton, Wigan and Millwall relegated. However I don't think a drop down to league1 would be such a bad thing for you. A chance to regroup, rebuild and with the right man in charge (won't be Lambert in that league) have a real good shot at promotion. I personally really enjoyed our season in league 1, but I suppose we were fortunate enough to bounce straight back and stronger.

Good luck on Saturday. I fancy us to nick it 2-1 with you lot piling on the pressure for the last 20 minutes.
