Summer Transfer Window 2019

Recommended Posts

Rovers trying to find a buyer for Richie Smallwood.

Also trying to find clubs willing to loan Joe Nuttall (most likely destination Accy), Sam Hart, Andy Fisher, Daniel Butterworth, Joe Grayson, John Buckley and Brad Lyons.

Lad from Man City should be coming in, with another CB coming in before the window closes.

Think that might be the end of our summer transfer business unless we lose one of our 1st teamers.

Which doesn't work a lot, leading to us needing to pull our inevitable second half fight back out of somewhere. Absolute classic rovers.

How many games do we just take the lead in say 1-0 and hold? Never straightforward.

I just want some straight forward 1-0 wins this year. We can score early or late. Just score and win. No drama. Please ?

Precisely. Every game against the top 6, he'll have a good chance of starting. I can see Bennett, Evans, Travis and Downing across the middle. And I'm being generous slipping Travis in there.

Was hoping Buckley would in and around the 18 this season.

Maybe the first transfer in history where a club actually pay the "buying" club to take a player?

I definitely think we need to loan Nuttall, Grayson, Hart, Lyons and Fisher, but I'd like to see Buckley and Butterworth remain around the squad (with Rankin-Costello) as I think they are ready for Championship cameos.

However, if they get half a season in L1 playing regularly, ready to come back and compete in January (like new signings ?) that would make sense due to the size of squad we have.

Smallwood simply needs to go for basic numbers. Nuttall and/or Samuel too. Wharton perhaps also.

If we do everything you posted @RovingRover I think we will be happy... assuming the new CB is 1) any good and 2) actually plays.

Gut feeling is Mowbray could sign the next Cafu, Nesta and Maldini and still stick them behind Bennett, Mulgrew and Williams for 30 games.

That needs shaking up it's a source of much annoyance setting up to stop sides at home ten places below you in the table although over the course of his tenure it's served him well to a certain extent be fair.  However it's a reason many feel he'll always be midtable Mogga in this league when he doesn't utilise the attacking strength he puts together in the squad properly and the lack of balance the team usually starts games with.

I don't think we will have a difficult time finding someone to loan the majority of them

Downing clearly going to be the left sided Elliott Bennett. From Mowbray:

Mowbray believes those qualities will be a big boost to Rovers in the upcoming campaign and were a key factor when considering his options to strengthen the squad.

"I think his ability to play in different positions is important," said the Rovers boss. "That's one of the main reasons why we've brought him here.

"He can play centre midfield, he can play wide right, wide left, he could even play left-back, serving the ball deep from those positions into the strikers, if the game dictated.

"People have learnt over the last few years that I like players with the ability to play in different positions - Elliott Bennett being a classic case at the moment.

JFHC.

And there in a nutshell is why we will never ever do anything under Mowbray.

Before I go back in to work. For tony get em in the team and get em played. If there good enough they’ll step up if not then loan them out. If Palmer Todd Kane and numerous other big club kids are good enough then so are ours. We are a top drawer academy with a second rate first team. Pretend we’re loaning them if that helps

If the best young players from the under 23 are being loaned out what’s the point of moving Johnson up. Also I don’t understand how our under 23 players finish fifth in the same league as premier under 23 players. Yet premier under 23 players are good enough to play in our division but our better under 23 players aren’t and have to move to league one.

All speculation so far. We do have the youngest squad in the league to be fair. So I think that ties in with Johnsons strengths.

Of those only Buckley and Butterworth could realistically breakthrough this year. I suppose the weigh up is keep them around and give them cameos or send them to league 1 to play 30 games plus. Need to make sure the loan move is the right one though.

One of the reason the U23 finish high is that The top PL clubs are loaning their best players, so their U23 is watered Out a bit. Players like Mason Mount, Harry Wilson etc.

However shouldn't takeaway that we have a great U23 with Just as good talent as the PL

Clarke-Salter has joined Birmingham on loan from Chelsea. The article says Birmingham beat several Championship clubs to his signature.

Out and out CB - would have been much more preferable to this City kid for me.

If you watched the 3 European U21 championship games he played for England you would see that he doesn’t win headers and is prone to mistakes. Tosin is the better option if you want a defender to defend and win headers

Do u watch him regularly?

This Adarabioyo deal seems to be dragging ridiculously now. Wasn’t it last Thursday him and Lescott were at Brockhall?

My big hope is that we are dragging our heels because we are near to finalising a deal for someone better, but I think I’m clutching at straws there.

No the only time I saw him before the u21s myself was in highlights when he was part of the Sunderland team that went Down but that's a bit unfair as the only time he was on them apart from the countless goals they were conceding was his 2 reds in 8 starts and 3 sub apperences

It’s from folk I speak to in and outwith the club, as I said I thought it was pretty common knowledge. Hence we are still looking at wingers

Sorry if it's been covered earlier in the thread, but have you revealed who the goalkeeper target was that we were trying to bring in? I assume it wasn't Walton and we might've missed out on them.

Sorry to tell you that downing was signed to compete with bell for the left back position. Leaving chapman as the only out and out winger. I don’t want the striker or mids converted nonsense so I believe another proper winger is needed. Why we haven’t signed a fullback as there is downing/bell one side and Bennett/ nyambe the other. Tony doesn’t want any others

I really hope this isn't true!

We just need to do the unthinkable and sign specialists for their actual positions.

Mowbray is probably still waiting for Rodwell then box that off as a CB signing :/ does seem to be a tough window for the vast majority of the championship. Lescott as in Joleon ??? crikey
