I saw something on Facebook saying that we are talking to Thomas Kuczack but I can't find the link now.

Tomasz Kuszczak is 37 but he is just the kind of competition that Raya needs. Someone hugely experienced who, providing he was fit, would be a better one year option than Leutwiler.

Did you see Bennett playing RB against Brentford? Or every time he played there? Square pegs in round holes Don't work.

I don't see any footballing qualities to suggest he is ever going to be good enough. He can't head the ball, he doesn't have much pace or any skill to beat a man, he's a poor finisher and he's lazy. What have you seen in him to suggest that he is ever going to be good enough?

Admittedly, you have an advantage on me having seen more of him. I saw him come on against Norwich and he looked bereft of confidence and I felt that the manager was at fault for that. I saw the West Brom game where he came on and gave a very interesting cameo. There was a point where he got the ball midway inside the West Brom half facing the Riverside. A quick change of feet and a burst of pace took him away from two Baggies players and he played a nice ball out to the right wing. He was generally much better in that game and I felt that he might have something but he needed managing.

His goal against Bolton would suggest that he can finish, his lack of confidence might explain him looking lazy and I'm surprised that you think he has no pace.

At Brentford, Bennett had his arse ripped numerous times. Completely pathetic performance as are Mowbray's comments of Bennett as a classic utility player. He is shit everywhere.

Amen to that. Did he get selected the game after? Nyambe is 1000 x the player Bennett is. With potential to play the Premier League if he worked on soft skills.

I hope Mowbray scouts this game, cheaper than a caravan around Europe:
Morocco v Namibia, Africa Cup of Nations 2019 Group Stage, 15:30 UK time, Eurosport 2

To be fair, he was specifically referring to Bennett being utilised basically anywhere he can be crow-barred in. I for one agree that it didnt work. Other things he has done have worked, obviously.

In all honesty, that's the truth. If he were going to be a player who could justify the fee one day, he would be at least showing SOMETHING.

In three years some on here will be saying 'don't write him off he's only 23'.

Swansea away, Brentford away, Sheffield United home and away and the list goes on. Bennett is an a atrocious full back (and not much better elsewhere) but Mowbray likes him, so he continuously get's shoehorned into the side despite not being good enough. Nyambe on the other hand made an error against Birmingham, was publicly criticised by the manager and dropped to the bench and sometimes from the squad entirely until injuries meant he got a recall to the staring 11.

Rothwell to Dack to Brereton...

Hopefully a link-up we can see more of going forward. Plus that Butterworth run from the halfway line which should have grabbed Brereton another.

He has looked good in spells up front but a lone striker in the system (we currently play) is not ideal for him. If we knocked it around on the ground it could work. In a 4-4-2 with a partner he would be good too.

Ya, exactly.

Total honesty from Square Peg Mowbray:

"People have learnt over the last few years that I like players with the ability to play in different positions - Elliott Bennett being a classic case at the moment.

I like managers with a high success rate but I haven't got one!

Thomas Kuzsczac and Grant Hanley would be real quality additions at this level. I would be very happy if we signed both of them.

Raya - Leutwiler - Fisher

Nyambe - Mulgrew - Lenihan - Williams - Bell - Hart - Magloire - Annesley - J. Evans - Carter - Wharton - Platt - Thompson - Grayson

Rodwell - Evans - Chapman - Smallwood - Bennett - Travis - Buckley - Dack - Downing - Rothwell - C. Doyle - DavenportRankin-Costello - Butterworth - Mols - Armstrong - Gladwin

Graham - Samuel - Brereton - Nuttall - Vale

Including Under 23's, this is our current squad. Unless something significant is added, I think expecting anything more than 12-18th is just daydreaming. We're so light in defence and up top it's scary. I've highlighted the 25 players you'd imagine would start the season as first team squad players, and also some of the younger lads who are more likely to get a game this season. We need to shift dead weight in midfield. Evans, Smallwood, Rodwell and Bennett don't serve a purpose in this team anymore for me, especially if O'Neill is coming too.

Even if we do EVERY single bit of business that's been rumoured so far, AND cut the dead weight, the squad would only look like this.
What would your realistic expectations be if this was our squad for the season?

Raya - Fielding - Fisher

Cooper - Hanley - Nyambe - Mulgrew - Lenihan - Williams - Bell - Magloire - Annesley - J. Evans - Carter - Wharton - Platt - Thompson - Grayson

Davenport - Chapman - O'Neill - Travis - Buckley - Dack - Downing - Rothwell - C. Doyle - Rankin-Costello - Butterworth - Mols - Armstrong

Gallagher - Graham - Samuel - Brereton - Nuttall - Vale

Bennett is Mr Versatile. Rodwell has been offered a new deal. Evans is one of the preferred CM players. Smallwood is a valuable squad player who won’t complain about being on the bench.

This is Mowbray’s view on life, and is why he can be so frustrating.

The regular excuse of “we don’t have a squad to challenge for promotion” is pretty self-fulfilling if the manager can’t or won’t upgrade them and just brings in new players to “help them”.
