Summer Transfer Window 2019

As far as I can recall, Mowbray told us back in Feb in Blues Bar that he knew a good number of our players weren't up to it at Championship level and they would fall off the train/wagon and be replaced by players who would make a real difference.

Fast forward to June:

“Some of those might be free transfers, some might be loans, and some players that we might look to buy, polish them up, and then sell on.

“We might also have players in the building who can make an impact for us next season.”

The writing, IMO, is indelibly written on the wall.

IMO, the Downing signing is underwhelming.  For Mowbray to harp on about his versatility and also laud Bennett in the same breath tells us everything we need to know about our manager.

Some are saying he will help the 'youngsters' such as Chapman and Armstrong learn and aid their development; forgive me, but what the feck do Mowbray, Venus and Lowe do - is it not primarily their job to coach and develop players?

We understand Rovers have been chasing Bauer for some time yet the 'mighty' Preston see us off!!!  Perhaps Bauer was also far more impressed in the talents of Alex Neil than, IMO, the bumbling and bullsh1tt1ng Mowbray.

I fear it will be a disappointing window  and IMO, the £7m+ spunked away on Brereton last summer will come back to bite us on the bum.

IMO, it will be another season, at best, of treading water whilst Mowbray adds to his financial security.

We need a young, hungry, dynamic and tactically aware manager who knows the market and can work it.

Between the end of the last season and the Pune trip, Mowbray was on about getting Championship ready signings in and that some players already at Rovers would be told to expected limited playing opportunities and would have to make career decisions to make on whether to stay to fight for a place or move on. This appeared to include a number of players who he had given extended contracts to earlier in the season.

His narrative changes so often he should avoid the media or use a PR person to vet his ramblings so as to stop his David Campese impersonations.

Unfortunately, Frank Lampard isn’t available.

God I would love if wr do very well this season. The word eating here would be good.

I see the papers are linking Rakeem Harper with Liverpool and juventus. Remember him? Another singing that people said was useless before they even watched him.

I’d love us to do well too... just because I’m a big Rovers fan.

Who did?

I remember most people after seeing him saying he was extremely raw and not ready for first team football... which he wasn’t.

I think Nyambe has been treated shockingly by Mowbray and is always first casualty in "Operation play Bennett".

Bennett at RB instead of Nyambe is the cause of so much of our defensive problems and a back 4 of Nyambe - Lenihan - *Hanley* - Bell, would bring down our goals against column by a good 25%.

Now of course I'm not saying that Nyambe is Cafu, he will make mistakes, but compared to anyone else in our squad, he the only choice at RB. CB is the biggest priority in our squad by some distance.

I always look at it this way. If I'd have made the grade as a winger who would I rather play against ? Nyambe or Bennett ? I'd be thinking Nyambe is quick and decent in the tackle so I'm not going to do him for pace especially on the outside. His positional play isn't great, he plays a bit too near the centre halves so I could take advantage of that if I stay out wide. Bennett is only average pace wise so I'd be fancying my chances there especially if I'm running on to the ball played inside him. Neither are great headers of the ball so there's opportunities there with the long ball over the top.

All in all I reckon Nyambe would be the toughest opponent one on one.

Brentford apparently interested in Gallagher too: https://footballleagueworld.co.uk/brentford-looking-to-beat-blackburn-in-race-to-land-23-year-old-striker/

Interesting bit in the 'verdict' at the end. They seem to think Brentford can do better thanks to their extensive scouting network! Looks like their story is initially taken from the Sun though, Nicko again I believe.

This transfer roundup contains the first actual fee I've seen quoted in regards to O'Neil (maybe others here have already mentioned it though, dunno), at 350k https://www.lep.co.uk/sport/football/preston-north-end/pne-news/championship-rumours-blackburn-rovers-in-350-000-move-for-australia-international-sheffield-wednesday-target-former-arsenal-youngster-middlesbrough-manager-eyes-charlton-athletic-defender-as-first-signing-1-9831307

Also interesting to see another Charlton defender, the pornstaresquely-named Dijksteel, being linked with Boro. Charlton are going to have no defence at this rate.

This article in the Bristol Post says Bristol City, Ipswich and Portsmouth are interested in O'Neil too. It also quotes the 350k offer from us (which both links seem to have got from the Daily Mail originally).

Mowbray has worked a miracle at Ewood and yet so many judge him in ten negative sense. Where are the young hungry talented managers that can do better? Where are the players that can somehow be bought with the vast amount of cash we find ourselves aflush with?

The stock answer is this, TM is the man to carry on the rebuilding work, we have seen nothing but gradual success since he came in to the club. What is the issue with progression?

Some fans expect more but we pee with the todger we have got and that means walk before running.

I believe with a little bit of tinkering and a better centre half such as Hanley, Rovers can progress to the top 6 quite easily with this squad and the young raw talent we have coming through.

Some fans need to believe a bit more, support and get behind the team both on and off the park.

Difficult to watch him when Mowbray rarely gave the lad a chance!

Mowbray thought so too. He sent him back in the January after bringing him in in August having played four games.

Gallagher is another I'd forget.  Think it would be a few more £million down the drain.

Think he's overrated and has not developed as he should.

This 'young' lad  of almost 24 years of age has, IMO, stalled badly as just 100 appearances testify.

Don't think Mowbray and our recruitment team show any imagination.  Just where the feck do they scout!?!?

When you read something and it leaves you speechless.

Also, Joe Aribo choosing Rangers. I know they have Steven Gerrard etc but to turn down Championship and apparently Premier League teams in favour of the SPL, again, speechless.

Lots of good free agents starting to make their moves, and we've secured Downing.

I’ve just retweeted some WBA fan comments...(see the Home page if you are not on Twitter) - they bloody love him. I assume he has developed quite a lot since we sent him back. The raw 17y/o has developed it seems...

I remember him away at Crewe . He was poor and looked disinterested. I was constantly screaming at him to run for the ball as he just strolled around. As usual he was playing out of his natural position and he didn’t seem to have a clue how to play the role Mowbray gave him

People on here can say what they like, what does if matter if they don’t blindly support Mowbray’s approach? It’s an obscure Internet forum.

A miracle !?!?

By his own admission at Blues, he was brought in to keep us up.  He failed - full stop.

As far rebuilding!!!  Think we are 6 quality players short of challenging for promotion.

IMO, Mowbray is now washed-up and no better than a League One manager.

That's because he was at the time and it was another of those not what we really need signings borne out by the fact TM sent him back halfway through. Perish the thought fans on here should ever be right now and again.

By the way Tony signed him, Tony didn't really use him and Tony sent him back not the fans, ok  😎

I was going to use his performance in that game as an example of how poor he was. Positionally he was all cover the place and as we were so close we could hear other players telling him where to go but he cocked them a deaf 'un. In the first game at Ewood he was sent off and should have been sent off in the replay for deliberately kicking the ball at the referee. From memory he got the hook at halftime.

He might have improved his attitude and I hope he does well but the news today of a potential big move will cause some on here to rewrite history.

Bang on average on the football and signing side of things but he's good at other football club stuff obviously, also we know real well what the below side of average is like. There'll be a real good foundation to build on here when he leaves as long as he doesn't mess it up or it's sold from underneath him.

He did indeed get the hook on half time and was very fortunate to reach half time after an act of petulant I'll discipline

Oh yes thats right, started one game here in half a season, did absolutley fantastic didnt he?

So its either he started one game because at the time he was poor or because the manager got it wrong, and played his trusted, magnificent and reliable bennett, smallwood amd evans in midfield. So which one is it? Its either one or the other, and you wont like either, so would love to know?

Now the lost column is more than double that so pretty irrelevant, especially given he managed celtic, where chaddy would win the league.

Well, people can be sniffy but that managerial career total win % of 42.3 is actually pretty good.
