Summer Transfer Window 2019

From press conference today. Seems like we are trying at least.

Mowbray :

We will try to improve our squad if we can, we are hoping to add a few just to help

- We have a few irons in the fire and let’s see if they come to fruition

- It is hectic, hopefully there will be action this afternoon. We have training this morning, it is not too much disruption

Positioning for 'we tried our best and we were at it until the last minute until all avenues were exhausted' ?

Whilst loans are better than nothing that would mean next summer we would need 2-3 centre backs (Tosin Mulgrew and incoming player replacement) and a new keeper. And that's before any other areas of the team are considered!

Nothing like forward planning

TM:

"We have been working really hard all summer to try and identify positions, I feel sometimes there is people out there that have all the answers. They know all the players to sign and ‘why haven’t we strengthened here and why haven’t we done that?’ If it was as easy as that we would all do it. It is not as easy as that."

Yep, we're desperately short of centre halves, it's time for Magloire and Wharton to step up and stake their claim, and we send them both out on loan.

Barking doesn't even begin to describe it imo.

TM: "We could fill the team with kids every week but they can’t win football matches consistently"

Get the feeling he’s been on here for the last couple of weeks.

A good move for the club and the lad really.  He needs first team football to develop - he's not going to improve much in the Under-23's now - and Rochdale will be good learning environment for him.  At the moment, at Under-23 level, he has the pace to get out of trouble when he overplays in dangerous areas - something he is prone to do - whereas playing at Rochdale I suspect mistakes will be punished more frequently than in the Under-23's and hopefully his game will develop accordingly.

No but having 2/3 windows to do so generally helps. And to still be floundering at the end of the 3rd window is pretty poor going. (response to TM not you!)

You are the one that said "defenders are coming" Tony, so you can't now sit there and cry that people are being unfair and/or mean to you. You made a rod for your own back and should be mature and experienced enough to accept that you deserve criticism for making a public statement and failing to back it up.

Mowbray still hoping there are deals to be done for #Rovers on deadline day "We’ll see what this afternoon brings.” https://t.co/UoHLmHM9Kw

I just can't bear to listen to the b.s. spouted by Mowbray any longer, it's quite painful.

However in his desperation to make it sound like something's happening, he's tripped himself up. He's more or less said that the deals you'd been working on all summer sometimes go out of the window  because something even better unexpectedly comes up.  Insinuating either original deal or unexpected deal will happen.

Going to look very silly indeed when nothing happens. (Not that a deal you'd been working on all summer would go to the last hour of the transfer window anyway)

Keeps FFP away from the door though.

Errrm.......got news for you Tony. Neither can your favoured inner circle!

And at least if the youngsters got the chance and experience under their belt now, they might be able to do so in future.

Exactly, he's the one as far as I can see who prioritised spending £5 million on another striker. If he's not left himself enough money to strengthen the defence than thats his fault and deserves criticism.

Well it is as easy as that. Mowbray knows he's in trouble with the fans and this 'fighting talk' is to cover his and our pitiful transfer window.

I've zero faith in him delivering the goods today and he will be judged accordingly on results moving forward. Wont be long before the January window is being referred to as our salvation until it actually arrives and nothing happens.

No other club hit February with no fit CBs at the club. Most other clubs have signed defenders this summer. You would think that experience alone, along with getting shut of Magloire, Wharton, Rodwell and Downing, would see priority given to that area.
