Leutwiler not involved either.

It says all the lads who have been on international duty wont be involved today, with Johnson & Downing starting pre season training on Monday.

Cheers. I keep forgetting that Leutwiler is an international.

SO how did Adam play, why did he play and how is his fitness ?

where and how did brereton play

any stand out performers from the younger lads

and what score did it finish

More importantly does Nuttall scoring and Brereton not make any difference to their respective opportunities this season?

Typical early pre-season stuff.  Best player on the pitch by a country mile was Charlie Adam - wonderful range of passing and superb vision.

That has to be a huge concern if only Adam can stand out against Barrow.

I guess he has more to gain from putting a shift in though.

Agreed. Adam was classy, always had time on the ball and his long diagonals over and inside the full backs were excellent. Clearly it's too early to make a decision on him but he is something we haven't had for a long time.

Ffs against Barrow! Set your sights a bit higher?

This thread is about pre season games and it's a comment about how somebody played. As we aren't playing anybody of note how do you propose we judge players?

FFS.

The likes of Murphy have probably hardened my cynical outlook but I have the same concerns about Adam. Put in a shift vs a bunch of plasterers and plumbers get offered a final contract and put your feet up.

With our preseason schedule Rangers looks like the only competitive fixture and with them playing in Europe 3 days earlier could well be their reserves as well. In which case will be hard to judge trialists playing the calibre of opposition lined up.

Assuming we haven’t had scouts looking at players, which as we all know is completely pointless, then you’d have to look at things like experience, fitness, potential (short and long term), most recent season, circumstances, and the contract terms they would require.

You do not judge them on performances against teams two divisions lower and more.

Even on a pay as you play he would be taking up a squad place so he needs to be able to deliver success on the pitch in the second tier of English football this season. Rodwell had some credibility because of his age and potential, while Adam would be an emotional signing rather than a sensible one. A huge gamble.

We don't need Adam to put a shift in but is ideal off the bench when we need something different.

I am heartened by the reports, Barrow or not.

The only Rovers player mentioned on the radio for the first 20 minutes was Brereton. Then we got Charlie Dack so doesn't necessarilly signal anything apart from him causing the og.
