Just the beginning, expect we will see quite a few clubs going under.

Including us.

Shouldn't be a surprise in the circumstances but still a shock to see a Championship club suddenly go like that.

The interesting thing will be the points deduction. I understand that the rules are clear on a mandatory 12 point deduction for administration irrespective of circumstances. So whilst Covid 19 may be to blame the rules do not provide for any exemptions.

They changed it so that if it happened after the end of March it was delayed to next season, but given the delay to the season will that still be enforced as if the season had continued and Wigan had 6 games left we would still be in March....

Thanks to Whelan's shamelessly hypocritical support of FUP they will probably find it harder to find a buyer.

Guess what goes around comes around.

Whelan doesn’t own them any more and hasn’t for a while. I doubt his FFP stance would deter any buyers, unless you had a few quid lying behind your sofa....

Where did I say he owned them? I'm quite aware of that though wasn't aware they had another takeover just weeks ago! More brilliant EFL work. Perhaps if they spent less time bullying genuinely rich owners at crooked UEFA's behest takeovers like this and Charlton wouldn't happen.

Should be enforced I would think.

This could be the start of quite a few clubs having issues, including us. There are only so many billionaires and rich Chinese business groups interested in buying a club, but plenty of shoddy con men and blaggers who can pass the tests.

...and the EFL would rather open the door to them than billionaires with ambition.

Sky seem to think it will be an immediate deduction...

Yep, though Wolves were allowed to be run by that super agent Mendes on behalf of the Chinese owners.

Do you know why when the rules seem explicit it is 2020-21 the deduction comes in.

The EFL have said the 12 point deduction will only be applied after the season is finished. If they finish outside the relegation places, it will then be applied. If the finish in the relegation places, it'll apply from next season and they'll start on -12 in League 1.

Basically they have to finish 13 points (or 12 with superior GD) clear of 22nd to ensure safety.

Wouldn’t surprise me if Sky just blurted it out without checking the EFL rules.

However, considering the EFL seemed to make it up as they went along with Bolton, who knows what they’ll do...

All a bit strange as they announced a big investment in their academy facilities less than a week ago...

In November 2018, Whelan sold Wigan Athletic to Hong Kong based International Entertainment Corporation and then there was a further change of ownership, a few weeks ago, when Next Leader Fund took control.

That’s two changes of ownership in eighteen months. The fit and proper test still working wonders then..and just look at the names of the buyers. Faceless non entities. Not local, no connections to Wigan, just more piggies thinking they can get their snouts in the trough.

Doesn't matter, he's still got them whipped up into a frenzy.
