Tony Mowbray Discussion

We had a plan, we were pursuing him for 18 months! Then we abandoned it at the last minute in favour of spending £5M on Gallagher!

We should have had Toisin and Bauer

I'd say the pursuit of his mate Downing suddenly became more attractive to Mowbray once he knew he was becoming available.

It's egregious the lack of leaders we have on the pitch. Someone who will take the game by the scruff of the neck (ugh) and overrule the manager when the gameplan isn't working. Time was, we had a team of battlers (Todd, Neil, Flitcroft, Savage, Bellamy). I don't think you could name one player like that on our books right now. Maybe Lenihan?

This 'good group' shit is never going to work. Every good team has a good mix of 'characters'.

Yep, just because a player is a tough, nasty bastard on the pitch doesn't mean he's going to be an unprofessional wanker off of it. Hardnut players who are respected and professional off the pitch are the glue that has held many successful sides together. Problem is Tony only wants soft, timid lads who have some talent but won't ever kick up a fuss.

I heard that the deal fell through at negotiations with Tesco and Tony completely failing to tie the deal up when it was there to be done.

Preston have a direct line to the decision maker with no delays and that’s what happened

Mowbray is on record as saying he told Bauer he would have to be content with being a squad player who would have to fight his way into the first team.

After signing for Preston, Bauer stressed how impressed he was with Alex Neil during talks.

Enough said.

You get a sense of a teams character away from home. Our last 4 away games, all defeats, have included limp, heartless displays at Birmingham and Leeds, a battering at QPR and a total inevitable surrender at PNE. Theres your good group.

A mate of mine used to be on Utd's books and later on he was a scout for Man City.. He would only scout players in away games. He said " Anybody can play at home, you find more out about their character in away games ".

They come in everyday which is nice of them Tony really appreciates that otherwise Eliot and co with dig you out.  They train a bit, have a laugh a bit then go off and socialise a bit.  Tony rotates them to keep them as happy as he can and keep the app bonuses shared around unless you're one of the younger ones then you've to lump it. Unless of course him and his boys signed you or your with the right agent then you're fine.

This club is one giant comfort zone again where doing just enough is enough the void between India and Blackburn and those who attempt to fill a bit of it ensures this.

I think you are right about Mowbray..going nowhere any time soon..

I thought Stoke would be top 6 this season. Sadly I was wrong. Those 6 players they signed alot wasnt the require quality for me..

I think they go someone like Mick McCarthy, Alan Pardew, Martin O'Neill.

I'm currently going through my traditional reaction to our alleged 'form'. What I do, masochist that I am, is to avoid this Board for two or three weeks at a time, then binge on this thread.

Waiting for the goals from Leeds yesterday to be shown on Quest today, I was taken by the comments Tony Pulis made about the Barnsley (now there's a 'Must-win' game, if ever there was one, coming up!) v. Stoke City game. He observed that Michael O'Neill had made half a dozen changes in the Stoke City side despite having only had one, very brief, training session since his appointment and that, as a result, Stoke's players on the pitch were all playing in their correct positions. Pulis has apparently seen several of their games this season and said that yesterday for the first time that he had seen them this season, the players looked comfortable in the way they were playing.

My first thought on hearing that was to wonder if TM heard that observation and, if he had, did it make him think about his insistence, partly - largely? -as a result of his dealings in the transfer market, on shoe-horning several of our players into positions  where they aren't comfortable?

Even if he heard Pulis' remark, we all know - please, God, prove me wrong! - that he is bullet-proof as far as our owners are concerned. All we can pray for now is that he does the decent thing and resign.

Apologies if anyone has made a similar comment on pp. 105-113 of this thread; I think I'm only up to p. 104 and Chaddy's comment gave me a peg to hang my thoughts on.

52 points from 45 games since last seasons Preston horror show now.

Scored 64, Conceded 72 in that amount of time.

Mowbray is very lucky he's at a club where nobody in authority really cares what is going on for me, he wouldn't be surviving that record over that amount of games at many other clubs I think.

I'm still catching up on the last 10 days' posts on this thread.

Apologies, Mark; hope you'll accept my slight amendment to your post from yesterday. We care; if only the owners and management cared as much, our club perhaps wouldn't be so close to staring into the abyss.

Confused as to why the Venky’s thread has been locked as ‘there are other places to discuss the owners’

Yes it’s titled ‘Venky’s Accounts’ but it’s the main thread for Owners discussion.

I think it might be something to do with the mods, worries about legal action.

35 years ago I started supporting Rovers. At that point Liverpool were the best team in the country, but I didn't follow every other kid and stuck with my dad's club.

I sit here tonight having watched the Liverpool City game, thinking how much I enjoyed that and would rather watch Liverpool than my own team.

My 11 year old boy who has supported Rovers for 5 years can't stop talking about Liverpool now.

Thanks Tony

Thanks Venkys

Thanks for ripping the sole out of our Club.

Now if the Venkys aren't going to go then please Tony, do the decent thing and let somebody who has the ability to get us die hard Rovers fans smiling again take over.
