UK death toll doubles in a day

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-51889957

Johnson isn't "backing scientists to the hilt". He is trying to shift responsibility onto their shoulders so that he can blame the science later when the catastrophe becomes apparent that is unavoidable in this country of depleted health system resources.

As we have seen by now, sporting organisations, care home providers, universities and others have ignored the government's procrastination and have taken the decisions that should have been led by the government.

Johnson is a clueless liar, who hasn't the guts or the intelligence to lead this country through this crisis.

Manslaughter

Thousands of Irish who attended must have disagreed with you. Believe they won't have any restrictions on return so your government must disagree as well.

Trump just said flights from UK and Ireland will be banned on Monday. Decision already made.

Been out today for a few hours to Speke Hall and that was very busy as well and a real mix of kids and older people.

The great British public just loves to rebel !

Ya,they are idiots too and our government have said that if it was here,it would have been canceled.

I don't see how they can practically select and stop people coming from 1 event.

Wow. It’s hard to see the point you are trying to make here. You’re claiming that it was safe to run a massive public event when a potentially deadly virus is doing the rounds of the UK? Or are you saying that governments should refuse their own citizens the right to return home?

Would it not be easier to just agree that running Cheltenham was a huge mistake?

The Italians didn't even rebel, just did their normal socialising. It's 2-3 weeks then when that comes home to roost.

Pity many are either refusing or unable to grasp this.

I am just saying that the Irish government disagrees. Simon Harris said the UK is not high risk and there was no attempt to stop Irish travelling to the UK. There is no need for returning people to be tested or self isolate.

Also people could choose not to attend so the fact they did shows they also disagree.

I doubt your opinion or BDS's opinion outweigh any other individuals. So lets all stick to the medical advice eh. That presently says Cheltenham was OK to go ahead...and football for that matter.

Schools open. Wash your hands. Business as usual.

Personally I have no interest in horse racing.

The hysteria that comes across on social media obviously isn't replicated in real life. Like most things really come to think of it.

Its largely because so far, for most people, it's not real. When you know someone who's got it or had it, then it's real.  Until then, the general public wont take the precautions as seriously as they probably should.

When did Harris say that? I would have a look at the figures and what the WHO is saying now. The head of the WHO said the UK strategy is worrying and wrong, is that advice medical enough for you? Things are moving extremely quickly.

Again, what's your point about people disagreeing? That doesn't prove anything. There are people out there who don't grasp this and are in denial. I work with people from Italy and China. The Chinese in particular are terrified after what they have heard from over there.

Do you know it can be carried and spread for weeks without symptoms? If you are prepared for yourself or loved ones to die, that's fair enough.

😱

People over 70 will be instructed by the government to stay in strict isolation at home or in care homes for four months, under a "wartime-style" mobilisation effort by the government likely to be enforced within the next 20 days.

Just wait for the new migrating laws and forced vaccinations in order to travel.  Only a matter of time.

I was out yesterday evening with my dad for a few pints and a couple games of pool. People were just being themselves and not letting this Coronavirus stop their normal daily life. It was busy and that's normal for Friday night

Just a few days you were calling all of this a load of scaremongering nonsense. But don't worry, you won't be making as many u-turns as this mixed-up government is about to.

When/if somebody close to you gets this virus, you will condemn the government for moving so slowly to combat this.

Why is he self-centred idiot?  I sympathise with him tbh because he wouldn't have had insurance cover unless those bans were in place before he travelled. I myself have a five and a half grand holiday booked to Thailand in three weeks. As it stands, I either buy into the fear, refuse to go and lose that money or I go to Thailand until I am told that I am not allowed in.

Personally, I don't have an ounce of fear about this 'virus'.  But other than forums like this, I don't use social media and haven't for years.  I also don't bombard myself with news - which since the dawn of the millennium, appears to put fear mongering at the top of its agenda.  As someone who has worked in that industry, it is impossible to see past a lot of the bollocks on the box. Brass Eye was made as an OTT parody in the 90s...now it looks understated.

With no Rovers to throw your support behind at the moment, throw your enthusiastic support to those working around the clock in secure facilities to develop a vaccine

GET BEHIND THE LABS FFS! :)

Just on slating of the government, I’m usually fully onboard as many will know but I can’t understand it this time around.

The current situation is unprecedented in our times and the government are taking the lead from the likes of Chris Whitty and his staff and that is absolutely the right thing to do. He won’t be swayed or bow to government pressure, he’s an excellent CMO and we’re lucky to have him by all accounts.

Covid19 is going to kill thousands in the UK, mostly the elderly and people with compromised immune systems, but for the majority it will have little or no impact whatsoever.

Keep washing your hands, that’s the best way to stop the spread of this virus.

The governments handling of this so far has been spot on in my opinion.
