Pedersen instead of Duff ? Not fit to lace his boots.

More interesting thing to me is duff gets in the side with no restrictions and with no other ROI players he falls out of the restricted team.

A twist on this (I'll post my team later):

The best Rovers PL XI, but you can only have one player from each country.

Friedel (USA)

Berg (Nor)
Hendry (Scot)
Nelsen (NZ)
Givet (Fra)

Emerton (Aus)
Tugay (Tur)
Savage (Wal)
Duff (ROI)

Shearer (Eng)
McCarthy (SA)

Didn’t ‘fall out’, just wanted to pick a slightly different side.

I still remember an old Championship Manager game from the mid 90s, his position was listed as Centre Half/Centre Midfield/Striker, which was most welcome as Rovers manager!

It's kinda funny, do you go for objectively best 11 or personal favourite 11? Head knows Hendry goes in, but heart just wants Nelsen and Samba back together again...

See this is my issue! It may be me over thinking it but is it:

A) The best 11 players we've had in terms of quality when at Rovers

b) A variation on that whereby they have to genuinely work as a team. For example I may want Jansen, Shearer and Bellamy but along with 2 wingers it doesnt give me a workable formation in practice.

C) My favourite 11 in which case quality goes on the backseat a bit more.

Interestingly the only players to get in all 3 versions for me would be Friedel, Berg, Duff and Shearer. (And Tugay although objectively speaking I think he sneaks into the B criteria on nostalgia a bit.) The rest change depending on which criteria are used.

ooof - did not think anyone would go with a side without Shearer as their englishman.

Maybe age?

Anyone under 35 won't remember him the same - which is frightening to me as I remember him as clear as day. Someone born in 1988 would have only been 8 when Shearer left.

Yep, many will only remember Newcastle Shearer and post about ‘98, he just wasn’t the same player we had, as injuries began to catch up with him.

Still a quality striker, but he became more of a target man/bruiser, he’d lost a lot of the pace that made him devastating here.

Shearer at the start here was absolutely incredible. You won’t see many better than that, incarnation of Shearer, ever.
He was an absolute joy to watch, even if I was only a nipper at the time.

He really was.

He had 16 league goals by December of his first season with Rovers then did his knee. Luckily that one didn't slow him down, probably because he was still young. When he did come back in 1993 he went straight back to banging them in. I reckon that injury cost England a place at the 1994 World Cup. Without him England had to rely on a bunch of nearly men up front.

I remember Alan Hanson once saying on MOD, before the injury, that Shearer really annoyed him because he couldn’t see a weakness in his game.

I was only a kid when shearer was playing and he was my idol. Absolutely loved the man. The first few rovers games I went to he was out injured . The only time I saw him play he scored at the Blackburn end....in a black and white shirt.

Looking back as an adult I’m devastated I never got the chance to see him in the flesh in a blue and white shirt 😢

Shearer is a gentleman. I messaged him on twitter recently asking if he would sign a shirt for me and he obliged immediately and was so kind.

There's a shop near me that specialises in framing sporting memorabilia. Usually it's Utd, City, Liverpool. stuff.  99% of the signatures on the shirts and football boots are just scribbles and are pretty well undecipherable.
