Let's hear it for Venky's.  Hip hip Hooray

You rather have the ex Wigan owner, ex Bolton, Bury or Blackpool. Nobody’s saying hip hip hooray Venkys, but what’s happened has gone, and just grateful they keep us going.

Chaddy come on, we get this wrong every summer, and that's from the horse's mouth. Mowbray and/or the recruiting team don't have a clue what players are valued at. Blaming other clubs is daft, it's not about them raising prices on us, most of the time at least. It'll be poor estimates grounded in TM's outdated notions of player values.

No Bruce blaming other clubs isn't daft if we don't feel valuation is right. We didn't over pay for Dack or Armstrong did we? We won't pay Newcastle asking price at the start of the summer and we waited and get him a reasonable price. Now look him and the how much he has improved over the past 2 years.

The guys you mentioned have hundreds of International caps between them. Gallagher is just a journeyman at best. It's a pointless comparison.

You could have said the same about Best, he'd played for several top clubs and he'd been paid probably more than Gallagher to do it. He was still garbage.

I dont debate their quality or their legacy. Youre the one whose comment implied Gallagher isnt a real footballer.

Yet we paid £7 Million for Brereton and £5 Million for Gallagher. That says to me that we are not averse to significantly overpaying for players.

How many goals did our £5m forward get this season?

Che Adams got 4 league goals and reportedly cost £15m. Cutrone apparently cost £16m and was loaned out half way through the season after 2 goals. How did Moise Kean do this season? Yes it was a lot of money to us,  but the way some speak, you would think we're the only club to  not get instant success from our forwards.

The fact that other teams have also wasted money doesnt mean that ours isnt any less worthy of criticism.

No you're confusing 'we shouldn't overpay for players', which I generally agree with (sometimes you have to make an exception though) with 'we are crap at figuring out roughly what clubs value players at and judging the market', which is the poor state of reality we inhabit and which makes us flounder with our transfer business every year.

I thought George Best was a decent player.

I'll spell it out. £5m isnt that much these days for a forward, it far from guarantees 10 goals, let alone 15. If the Prem examples dont suit, try these for perspective:

Glatzel at Cardiff - 7 league goals £5.4m, Wells at Bristol 3 goals £4m, Zohore at West Brom 3 league goals, £8m.

Gallagher spent half the season out of position, but is in line with these. The expectations of some on here are far too high.

For all the criticism of players being out of position, Guardiola has made it a huge part of his management. Lahm to cm, mascherano to CB, alaba CB, fernandino to cb. And these are players who were much more established in their 'natural' positions compared to Gallagher

This is the championship with bread and butter players not class internationals. No need for it half the time especially when it's clear some are uncomfortable with it.

Buy players to fit your system and/or play to the strengths of what you have. We have a mix and match selection policy and a sign them then try and fit them in transfer policy.

Neither is confirmation that we have a budget. No-one has confirmed that Venkys have signed off on a budget this year.

One is reading the others tweets and both have been here reading Sparks ?

You'd think Brentford failing to get promoted makes it more likely Raya will make a move to the premier league this summer.

Duffy and King almost certainly likely to move too so we could make a fair few quid from sell on fees this summer. Not sure if we would have a sell on fee inserted for Duffy though.

Has anyone watch much of Jozo Simunovic who left Celtic this summer? So available on free. Experience and only 26 years old. His name was mention on Rovers chat YouTube video about potential centre back signing?

Decent defender but very injury prone.

Such a flimsy defence of a signing, that other teams have wasted money. Obviously they will have done. No one is saying that it is impossible to not make poor signings but equally it doesnt justify doing so.

You say Gallagher played out of position but that only further warrants criticism on Mowbrays point for signing him.

He has been a poor signing. Brereton has been a really poor signing. Equally, Dack and Armstrong have been very good signings, you dont see people saying "yeah but other teams have found bargains too" do you?

Do stop talking rubbish. If you're going to start quoting random examples which suit your argument, how about Ollie Watkins £1.8m 25 goals?

Personally I think Gallagher is absolutely useless but whether I'm right or wrong he only scored 4 goals this season which is completely unacceptable by any yardstick and whether or not he was in his preferred position centrally or utilised more from a wider position.

7. Of which 6 were in the league, 1 in the cup.
