"Yeah we tried for quite a few, that's just the nature of this window with everything that's happened this year really. There was a lad a Stoke that we tried for but as I'm always telling you, some of these teams quote figures back to me on the phone and I think, pft oh my God, you know? This football club can't afford to be spending big money like that right at this moment in time. We'll keep trying with the loan market, and I think we'll probably see a couple through the door before the season gets underway. Let's just not get ahead of ourselves, you know, we've got a good group of lads here." - Tony Mowbray in three weeks time.

I guarantee, GUARANTEE, that 75%-90% of the wording I've just formulated will be coming out of Tony Mowbray's mouth in about three weeks time.

I’d go even more like 95%, same crap, different season.

A loan GK & centre half, with maybe a midfielder for a small fee.

I can already hear him saying it.

Makes sense, the one area we are well stocked in, we will spend some money, probably buy a striker for 19 million too.

If Stoke have 6 centre backs already yet conceded 5 more goals and are happy to let Souttar leave, and at 21 years old, is he going to be of the calibre and experience to be able to get us into the play offs? Not a question I can answer but seems a little bit of a jump.

That being said, its come from a really dodgy source so guessing that there is no truth in it.

Well he been on loan 3 times over the last 3 years. He wanted to play 1st team football instead of sitting in under 23's for few years.

34 games last season for team who got league 1 playoffs. So decent enough.

He is a player I would like us to sign him. I mention him to you on different social media in summer 2019 as a player we should be looking at.

I appreciate his motive of wanting to play football.

My question is, he is a player with minimal first team experience, well out of the picture (at the moment) at a club that conceded more than we did, one has only played in League 1 and briefly in Scotland, who is only 21, is he going to come in for Adarabioyo and make a significant difference in getting that goals against column down? Which is what we need.

You presumably have seen him play more than me, I did see him make a mistake in the play offs, so maybe he is a ready made and unknown gem ready to step up, but forgive my scepticism.

All being said, the rumour has come from a terrible source therefore there isnt any truth in it.

There's the same argument you use against Wharton. He has no Championship experience (Wharton has a couple of games). Wharton's been on loan for the past three years and been promoted with each club.  Wharton's played a lot more league games.

Why do you want us to sign him? Carter is a better prospect. Magloire's a lot faster and Grayson is a deadball specialist, too boot - something we've not had since the Mulgrew bust up and legs going.

To be fair, whilst I totally agree with what you say constant inconsistencies in Chaddys post, I think based on the game time they have had, none of them 3 are up to playing in the first team at the moment. Wharton could be a bit different after consistently excelling in League 2 but the difference between him and a new signing would be that Wharton wont be expected or depended on to come straight into our first team and improve us.

I dont doubt that Souttar would likely be closer to our first team than all of them based on a seemingly impressive loan spell in League 1 but we dont need closer. We need someone to slot in and help us concede less goals.

I think of all of the names mentioned, its the likes of Van Der Hoorn, Ayala, Kipre, Balogun, Dunkley and maybe at a push Chester (the latter 3 have already gone elsewhere) that are what we need. Players we know that could come into the side now and there wouldnt be a doubt that they can perform. 4 of them are/were frees and the other 2 will be sold cut price, they are off the top of my head. Get a Souttar aswell if budget allows after fixing all positions by all means.

I was treating Carter, Magloire and Grayson as prospects and equating Souttar as being a prospect as well. He suddenly developed at Fleetwood. I don't see him as someone ready to go into our team straight away.I do see that with Wharton. He ought to be ready to step straight in.

I would have had talks with van Der Hoorn and Ayala, though Ayala's wage demands could put him outside our limit. Kipre had a break out season at Wigan. His fee might be outside our limit.

We were 14th in goals allowed. From that, we lost our gk & a centre-back- both returned to parent clubs. We released our other 1st team gk. We have one experienced centre-back. It’s less than a month until our opening game. So, what do we see on the official club website? Uniforms. Apparel.
We’re interested in looking pretty, over actual Performance on the pitch. Unreal. You can’t make this stuff up.

Chey Dunkley has gone to Sheffield Wednesday. Another potential signing going elsewhere. Would have potentially been a shrewd addition.

Also a rumour that Dominic Samuel failed a medical at Rotherham.

This the Sheffield Wednesday who we are supposed to be using as an example of how not to operate these days yet are doing decent business as we speak.

I find it amazing that we are not raiding Wigan for a couple of their assets. They are desperate for cash and to reduce wages.

I dont think Wharton can be expected to come into our starting 11 but assuming that we sign a first team centre back he wouldnt have to. If he could come back and be either 3rd or even 4th choice then that would be a big plus.

Souttar has seemingly done well at League 1 level and got good reviews and I am assuming that he is more likely to be Championship ready.

His inexperience like Pears means that although he might prove to become a good player at this level in time, they cant realistically be expected to come into a side supposedly pushing for the top 6 and have the consistency to play most or even every week and rectify our main fault.

Kipre like Dunkley (and Marshall) will be cheaper due to Wigans situation.

Agree with you on the text I've highlighted. I'm curious why you don't expect Wharton to come in and start. He knows the club. he knows Lenihan. He knows the standard he has to reach and he thinks he has.

So this mon reckons that there is a meeting next week between Mowbray and the owners, yet a week before that meeting he knows what the outcome of the discussion will be.

Impressive journalism. He can tell Mowbray the outcome and save him the time of meeting the owners.
