QPR also signed Rob Dickie.

Good signing

Don't know him from Adam to be honest, but 2.5 million seems like a lot in the current climate for a defender who has never played above L1 level. Must be highly rated if he's going for that amount.

I suppose when you've just received £17m for an outgoing player, you don't have to spend too much time haggling.

I’ve seen Naby Sarr’s name mentioned today, if Kipre doesn’t happen I wouldn’t be against us signing him. Extremely popular with Charlton supporters. He’s not technically gifted but he’s 6 foot 5 and is a solid defender, forget playing out from the back, Toisin was amazing on the ball but for me the first thing you want from a Centre half is for them to win tackles and head the ball away, Sarr is capable in that regard I believe. Free agent as well so it’s a no brainer.

From reading around twitter it seems more the opposite. Good at playing out from the back but a liability defensively. Who knows though. I'd rather it your way round I must say

Well if I’ve read it wrong then I can see why we are interested in him. Mowbray doesn’t like actual defenders does he he’d rather have a Toisin than a Samba that’s for sure.

Would you have signed Kipre if you were promoted to Prem League? Unsure

No, I'd want better. Not convinced that WBA are that keen on him, he's clearly a back up option for them. You can't blame Kipre for holding out though to see if they do firm up their interest as you can't turn down a premier league move and premier league money.

Not too keen on the idea of signing Sarr. Potentially ok as a back-up (is he any better than D Williams though?) but certainly not as a first choice centre half.

I don’t either, but I’ve been told the opposite — Kipre will hold out for a big move.

I really like Kipre as a player, but for me this has been going on too long now. This is the 6th day he has had us waiting to see what WBA do, I would rather we moved on to our next target, especially if they really want to play here.

We surely are looking for more than just a solitary centre back, we want 2 plus other positions especially left back. I get that there is an element of balance in terms of allocating the budget and I also get that Kipre is likely better than any alternative but even if we left that contract on the table, we could be getting in a left back and another centre back but it all seems to be one in at a time. If we go to Bournemouth with a defence with Bell and Wharton in, we will struggle. Imagine if Lenihan picks up a knock for Ireland!

Which is interesting because Wharton looked far more composed than Lenihan in the Cup game.

Even if we accept Wharton is ready and good enough that still leaves 2 slots to fill. Assuming that Mulgrew and Williams are on their way.

Turns out WBA have offered the same wage structure to Kipré as Rovers and he has no guarantee of game time.

Will probably still choose WBA, but has been made to look a right wally the last few days.

Think Lenihan and Wharton could do a job, but knowing our luck they will probably get injured at same time, Defo need 2 C/bs, because we can’t rely on the young ones, get two In and let one  or two young ones go on loan.

part of a defence that conceded 63 goals.

And I think it's time there was a general discussion about Darragh Lenihan. At centre-back you can get away with a lot because not everyone can see the mistakes you're making. Lenihan struggles big time with his in-the-box positioning.

Take this goal vs Reading. Lenihan completely out of position, Obita can run into the grand open space left by Nyambe who's attempting to cover the lack of an RCB, he can cross to the open lad who Lenihan should be with, or he can aim further for the two lads who've doubled up on Hayden Carter due to Lenihan's absence. Goal ensued.

Or here more recently against Doncaster where number 11 and number 9 just 14 seconds into the game were given all of this space in the box, Lenihan is so deep that they can all arrive into the box, Bell is busy marking 26 and it leaves two players completely unmarked. Against a Championship side we'd have been 1-0 down here.

And this is a little more general, but an issue with our defence in general, including Lenihan, is a lack of urgency to get out when the ball is cleared. Bell plays a shit ball out to their man on the edge and the line meanders out towards the ball carrier. Leaves the shot, and three open players unmarked in the box for him to choose from. Goal ensues.

Oh absolutely - we need two CBs if Williams leaves. Mulgrew isn't even a factor for me - he's just a drain on resources.

I've said for a while: Lenihan, A.N. Other, Wharton and Williams is a pretty decent group of CBs for this level, if A.N. Other is quality. Let Carter go out on loan for the year.

We desperately need a LB above anything else though.

He was all over the place on Saturday but he is so important to us because he has been our only defender under Mowbray who can lead the defence and head a ball. He missed 9 games last season in which we picked up 5 points and lost 6 games. He isnt perfect but he is so important to us.

We need more defenders who can actually defend. Kipre would be perfect but seemingly it wont be happening. Sarr is possibly the opposite of what we need.

According to the Oracle, the young Celtic striker has signed for us earlier today.

That's interesting, possibly we're holding off announcing it because there's another signing imminent and they want to do the press at the same time?
