Can’t wait to hear what everybody thinks of Fisher today

Did everything okay except a horrendous effort with their goal.

Thought Wharton was not bad. Wouldn't mind him being on the bench at the start of he season. Looks mobile and good distribution. Maybe a bit lightweight.

Really poor second half. Lucky to win that game. Bell should never wear the shirt again. Brereton missed an absolute sitter. Arma hardly looked interested all game. Travis and Johnson weak. Lenaghan too many mistakes. Can't pass to save his life. Wharton sound enough. Rothwell flattered to deceive again. Chapman not in same league as Dolan. A win but so much to be concerned about against lower League opposition

Bell is dreadful.  Left back needs to be priority.

wharton ok but remains to be seen in championship

hope for BB from that.  Needs a consistent run of games, and hopefully goals

fisher never a first choice, not sure even second

dolan exciting at every touch. Could go all the way to the top

nice to say that we are not out of the cup in August!

What's wrong with Armstrong? He looks in a right mood - and did at the end of last season too.

Seemed to have a similar look about him at the beginning of last season often coupled with playing up top on his own.

Good to get through but thats about the only positive that can be taken. A poor performance made even worse by a horrendous pitch, so bobbly. Think we might need a new groundsman before a defender!

Bell was stand out in terms of being dreadful. The amount of sliced clearances, the times he was caught of position and his end product going forward all embarassing

We know that Lenihan is a good defender but not today, he was shocking. Wharton a bit better beside him but we need defensive reinforcements as we all know. Fisher had a nightmare for the second, needs loaning out. And Rankin Costello is never a full back, defensively poor and needs to play further forward.

In midfield, the downgrade between Holtby and Rothwell was obvious. A long lay off for the former is all we need and probably reason to give Downing a call. Johnson I though was possibly the best of the midfielders. Travis bar one tackle was not his usual self.

Definitely need more options in attack IMO too. Armstrong wss not his usual self but livened up towards the end. Brereton, total enigma. Brilliant for the second and did a few nice things but missed an open net. Needs to start scoring in competitive matches. Chapman is unrecognisable, Dolan raw but very bright.

Sounds like a bad one for Walton. Feel for him.

Just imagine we'd paid to sign him and that happened at Ewood today....

?

Just seen that.

Gone off with his leg in a splint and with an oxygen mask.

Didn't want him back but hope its not as serious as it looks.

Thought Fisher looked generally assured, but you could argue he should've had that second one, and he did make a hash of that one high ball (although I think Wharton struggling to contain his man contributed to that muck up too). I did notice Venus giving Fisher hell for booting one kick out of bounds...

I actually quite liked Wharton out there. Had a couple mis-kicks in the 1st half, but looked a lot more assured than Lenihan, who had a weird game. Not a pen on replay, but Lenihan more got it because his defending looked so awkward...

Armstrong and Johnson pretty anonymous. Chapman seemed to have the ball a lot yet was oddly hesitant to do anything with it.

Typical hot-and-cold Rothwell appearance, meh.

I'd score it: Fisher 6, JRC 7, Lenihan 5, Wharton 7, Bell 4.5 (Ugh. 4 if it wasn't for the well-won penalty), Holtby 7 (hope he's okay, liked the look of him in a deeper role), Travis 7, Johnson 5.5, Chapman 5, Armstrong 6, Brereton 6.5 (cruising for a solid 7 until that awful miss at the end! But had a nice hand in goals 2 and 3, and made some good runs), Dolan 7, Rothwell 6

Kinda meh game really. Dominant for most of the 1st without doing much (like too much of the post-lockdown games), horrid start to the 2nd, then recovered a bit. Honestly can't get too up in arms about what felt more like a glorified friendly.

Wharton looked more composed than lenihan.

dolan was like a breath of fresh air. Attacks with the ball and tracks back.

brereton has significantly improved better first touch and drives at the opposition.

like the look of rankin Costello and will make a first team regular. Not sure if that will be at right back.

rothwell needs to be a lot further foward.

bell erratic has ever

The others did their job.

we still seem shakey defensively If put under any pressure

Very fortunate in the end after that second half display.

Thought both full backs had terrible games, Fisher had looked confident but then  did "a Walton" for their second goal. Bell did redeem himself slightly by doing well for our pen.

In midfield thought Johnson was a joke second half, must have thought he was playing walking football. Rothwell was anonymous as well when he came on.

Up front thought BB did quite well then he missed a sitter. Armstrong didn't look arsed, hope he's not angling for a move, didn't think Chapman was as bad as people are making out,did some nice things but Dolan looked the pick of the bunch when he came on.

Overall a lot of improvement needed and on that evidence we need Holtby back ASAP.

Thankfully 4 of the back 5 today will not be in our first choice backline this season. Hopeless at the back.

Brereton is starting to look like a player. Probably our best player today. Dolan looks like the real deal. Get him in the starting 11.

A little more realistic

I wouldnt be reading too much into today game as it still pre season in reality. 2 more games against PL team before our season starts.

Players are never going to be fully ready for competitive game after 2 pre season and 2 weeks of training.

If we’d have won 5-0 you’d be talking completely differently ?

Ben Whiteman not even in the squad for Doncaster. I’d suspect he’s off somewhere.

Holding on for rovers.  Barnsley have put two bids in but he doesn't see that as much of an improvement on Donny  Goalie, left back then Whiteman. Plus, the money isn't haigh enough for Donny, Sheff Utd have a sell on clause
