[Archived] Rovers Best Ever Xi

Recommended Posts

I'd love to see a bitchfight between lofty2k2 and soueyisgod.

As for my favourite XI, well I'll only include those I have seen although if what was a real all time Rovers XI forgotten greats like Tommy Briggs, Eddie Latheron and Ted Harper would have to be considered but most haven't heard of them never mind seen them.

Anyway...

Goal - Terry Gennoe

Right Back - Chris Price

Left Back - Greame Le Saux

Centre Back - Colin Hendry

Centre Back - Stephane Henchoz

Centre Midfield - Simon Barker

Centre Midfield - Mark Atkins

Left Wing - Scott Sellars

Right Wing - Stuart Ripley

Centre Forward - Simon Garner

Centre Forward - Alan Shearer

Subs - Flowers, Berg, Duff, Dunn, Cole.

Al,

Fascinated to see Ferguson in such hallowed company. I hope you are right!

So do I but I searched my memory and could'nt find another central midfielder with so much class. Also wanted to include one of the current sqad and he is the only one who comes anywhere near. (Perhaps Brad)

Team limited due to those I haven't seen.

Friedal - simply awesome & more reliable than Flowers IMO.

Berg - great servant to club Mr reliable.

Hendry - fantastic leader from the back.

Moran - fantastic leader from the back.

Le Saux - some great free kicks as well.

Ripley - couldn't score to save his life but the best provider and crosser we've had.

Sherwood - the complete midfielder.

Atkins - the most underrated player ever to play for Rovers.

Duff - pure magic.

Shearer - who else?

Jansen - okay most of his stuff was in division one but pre motorbike accident should have been in the England squad and worked so damned hard.

Subs:

Flowers, Henchoz, Tugay, Cole, Gallacher.

Interesting to choose one season in their Rovers career to have them for, puts a new spin on things.

Just one question - would 1995-96 Shearer not have been better?

Lofty.. multiple ids are not allowed.

He's becoming quite a serial rule breaker isn't he?

I'd suggest M'Lord Ste B, that he's been guilty of the following offences....

4.) No Personal Attacks

Whilst lively debate is encouraged, personal attacks are not tolerated. This will be enforced in all sections of the board.

8.) Nothing abusive or offensive

Users must be refrain from posting anything that could be viewed as abusive or offensive.

10.) One Person, One Account

The message board operates a one person, one account rule. There are a few rare occasions when more than one account per user is acceptable, this must be approved by an administrator first. Signing up a new account whilst your account is banned will result in measures being taken to ensure no further access to the message board.

14.) Think before creating new threads

Nothing is more annoying than multiple threads on exactly the same point, please check that the subject of your new thread has not already been created by checking the existing threads and using the SEARCH feature. Duplicate threads are likely to be locked, repeat offenders will be warned and then banned.

The ones I've seen in the flesh

Roger Jones

Kevin Hird

Graeme Le Saux (dead heat with John Bailey)

Colin Hendry

David May (1993/4 version)

Simon Barker

David Batty

Damien Duff

Noel Brotherston

Alan Shearer

Tony Field (apologies to Garns)

Obviously if I'd seen them in a Rovers shirt you'd have to consider Crompton/England/Mcevoy/Clayton/Douglas etc.
