  1. I like the idea that the game is the same at Old Trafford and Pleasington. First it was 4th officials to keep the childish managers in check, then it was goal line technology and now it's going to be bitching for replay reviews every 25 seconds. Let's just cut the bull and stop calling it a sport, at the top level. It's just a grubby race for money and a tediously dull one at that given the atrocious dross served up by the premier league.

  2. Don’t like it at all. I see it as a way of the tv companies enforcing their power at the expense of the fans at the ground. Also, in football key decisions are down to interpretation rather than fact anD it diesn't matter how many times you see it on film it doesn’t prove anything conclusively as there are too many factors to consider. I would rather take the rough with the smooth and go with the referee on the pitch making a call to the best of his ability and everyone stop moaning..

  3. Well, it’s here, starting tonight at Brighton v Palace. Don’t know if or when it will ever be used on a Rovers game, but what’s everyone’s feelings about it? Maybe this sounds stupid, but I think bad decisions are integral to football, and I’m fond of them. Imagine a world where you never got a scabby penalty or an offside goal! A world where there were never any discussions over referee decisions. Well it’s here! #gamesgone

  4. Olsson scored that game but it was ruled out for offside. He was clearly onside, Would that not have stood with the VAR? BUT we've also got Dunny's last minute offside equaliser which is the most I've ever celebrated a goal at Ewood. F**k the VAR!!

  6. In the MSL final, VAR was a complete annoyance both times it featured. First time was after Toronto scored: Altedore beat the offside and put it in. A bit close but clearly onside, no defenders claiming for it, yet everyone stood around for at least a minute after the celebrations had died down while it was checked. Complete atmosphere killer. Second time was a total mystery: ref had to stop the game at a corner while VAR checked for God knows what. Eventual consensus was that something may have happened off the ball. But everyone was stood around for a couple of minutes in freezing conditions with no-one on the field or in the stands having a clue why. Nothing was given.

  9. It has not gone down to well with supporters in the A League and they are still getting decisions wrong even after reviews, The upside to it is that with the time it is taking to make a decision, you can go queue up and get a coffee and visit the toilet without missing any of the action or in the case of Perth Glory games its a nice respite from the boredom Plenty of links from a google search regarding VAR in the A league this season available.

  10. Hang on I thought we were doing ignorant and pessimistic on this site? I wouldn’t have signed up if I knew people were recommending reading stuff to inform my arguments!

  11. Just read the "How will VAR work" on BBC Sport. The majority of it sounds OK to me. I'm not too sure of refs having to form a square with their index fingers so the players and the crowd know he is consulting the VAR. But the general description of how it will work seems OK.

  12. Why couldn't he be out there from the start then ? The ECB is a joke.

  13. Yes we had quickies in as well, but the main bowlers where Anderson and Swann, and Tremlett was dropped as he was expensive - despite taking wickets. Against NZ, I'd say try some new blood. We desperately need a first change bowler who can come in, not leak runs, and pick up wickets. If the selectors think that's Curran, then give him the series. Batsmen, honestly don't know, but give them a few innings to prove themselves. NZ are a decent test side, but nothing really to fear as far as I can see, so its a definite opportunity to bring in players now. I'd look at possibly resting Jimmy if / once the series is won, on the basis of giving opportunity to others.

  14. I personally feel that we look alot more balanced with Whittingham, he was excellentv Scunthorpe and his passing complimented Smallwoods tenacity whereas Tomlinsons passing in the last few games ive thought wad a bit all ovet the place.

  15. You can argue he hasn't said enough about Rovers plight under Venkys if you want to. However you can't possibly argue he isn't a Rovers supporter. He has been one , for years, he regularly attends matches. If he isn't one how many Rovers supporters are there? 50? On what criteria? You have got yourself into a stupid position here and you are too stubborn to back down.

  16. Well RV started so he'll finish. Personally I would have passed.

  17. So despite being known as a Rovers fan amongst our politicians for several years now (even before LibDem leadership), him being regularly seen at Ewood by many different people, him speaking against Venky's, him getting full marks in a Rovers quiz (including the unbelievably specific 'points below Utd' question that many of our obsessive best on here didn't know), you think he's not a Rovers fan?

  18. Just sat in Blues with Tim Farron after he bought a ticket for today’s game. He’s just bought everyone a pint, set fire to a Venkys picture and got 50 out of 50 on the hardest Rovers quiz I’ve ever heard. I’ve told him to take his Rovers shirt and scarf off and to get out. I’ve seen him off with my pitchfork. Fecking imposter. He won’t fool me.

  19. I understand your cynicism, but to be honest people find him dull enough without him harping on about a northern third division team all the time. Remember he was technically running to be Prime Minister! ? If he genuinely, as you suggest, studied thoroughly ten years of football trivia and stats that he didn’t even care about just for a tiny bit of PR, rather than picking a subject he knew then fair dos to him - it’s all the more impressive. Somehow I doubt it, but at the very least it’s a bit of exposure and fun for us so hey ho not all bad.

  21. If he’s not a Rover why would he bother with an early day motion calling for greater transparency in football? http://www.lancashiretelegraph.co.uk/sport/10465054.MP___s_Commons_call_after_Blackburn_Rovers____chaos___/ Secondly why would he consistently lie about being a Rovers fan to the extent of appearing on Celebrity Mastermind? One might want to rubbish Farron on a number of political issues but your factually incorrect on this one.

  22. Very comfortable performance, particularly in the second half after Morecambe went down to ten men. Travis and Charley Doyle looked particularly good and young Buckley, promoted from the Under-18's, looked very comfortable in midfield on a difficult pitch.
