  1. The issue with hamstring injuries is the scar tissue it leaves behind. It means players can be far more prone to reinjury. Consistent hamstring injuries are the end of some careers. See Sturridge for the most perfect example. He has to give himself time to recover and if I was him I'd be looking at missing out the season. He's young and has the next 12 years to think about

  2. That's exactly how i'd see it, first and foremost it was supposed to be an advertising tool that probably paid for itself although in the Prem it was something that still needed underpinning with extra cash so they must've known they'd have to throw a few rupees it's way regularly. I think the last few years it's become a handy accounting tool by default but the difference is now with some costs reduced etc and it being run more sensibly a bit of the money put in is being put to good use instead of firing straight through the system. At least it's an improvement on when I and plenty others thought it was one big laundry

  3. Ya, I have seen and read a bit about tax avoidance and it could very well be at play here. I wouldn't say it was the initial reason they bought the club though, just a handy bonus

  4. A bit of both Everything in that last post is fact and easily checkable apart from the bit about profits going into Rovers to offset against tax, pure assumption on my part but a common practise in some large businesses. If you look at their share price a few years ago it was basically flat lining but over the past 12 months it's shot up again. I don't think it's wild conspiracy to think that might be why their input went down to a trickle and the club had to start cashing it's assets in to keep going but now the input has picked up to healthy levels again on the back of trading going well. Might all be down to something else but there is a pattern there and like any huge business the VH group will be reliant and their banks backing and when times are a bit leaner and money is needed elsewhere you'd think the first tap they'd turn off would be the oversees football club.

  6. The club's annual accounts came out this last couple of weeks. More of the same stuff as usual but they said that the overdraft facility with the Bank of India expired around February/March but that they were confident of it being renewed and even if it wasn't they would be able to fund the club. I don't know what 'arrangement' they have with the Bank but it seems to keep on rolling on every year with no end in sight. Although the £30 million in player sales and slashed wage bill might have helped win round the Bankers. With business seemingly booming back home I doubt they're losing much sleep over it Venky's India: Shares of this company soared 28 per cent in the past week. The company is expecting strong operational performance till May or June. "When you are adding new products and expanding your core business and seeing the realisation improving, the shareholders should be more confident about the quality and services," the company told ET Now in a recent interview. 8. From a physio standpoint it's just as bad that another, presumably more healthy part of his hamstring, has pulled. The measure of severity of the injury will be whether he's pulled, snapped or just strained that part of the muscle. It will be further scar tissue either way and result in an even weaker hamstring. Hopefully he's allowed proper recovery time and doesn't feel pressured to play again. He's been a joy to watch in his short spell here but we must conserve his career like you say

  9. Those early seventies when the cameras came to Ewood, as a kid you'd run to the corner when the corner was to be taken or run behind the goals for a penalty when the game was an honest innocent sport. happy days ! That hour or so on a Saturday evening followed by a hour or so on a Sunday afternoon where happy days to get your footy fix plus the pre match show on ITV (was it friday evening) when Granada ran a competition amongst goalkeepers for the ones that had gone the most minutes without conceding a goal and Roger Jones was just behind the legendary Italian Dino Zoff for most minutes played without conceding a goal. Dino Zoff then Roger Jones wow ! Great read red rose Rover.

  10. That's 14 years ago I still stand by my reply from back then. I was at the 1985 game, one of the ugliest atmospheres I have ever come across watching Rovers. Tension, fear, the malevolent feeling of violence in every challenge on the pitch and everysong sung off it, and yes Jimmy Hill lost the plot completely on MOTD..... Great times.

  11. I absolutely love that. Tremendous tackle there by Glenn at the end! In fact I wrote about that game here: 14 years ago! I had it on video. Think I've still got the video somewhere. No video player mind you.
