  1. This guy was a PL starter a few years back and is certainly more than capable of doing it in the Championship as we well know. Like others have said, he would be difficult to replace - especially on the cheap. He is only 32, its not like he is approaching the Teddy Sheringham/Ibrahimovic age group. We will have to replace him eventually but I would rather we sign someone as backup or to rotate with him so that they can bed in and prove themselves rather than being left to find someone expected to fit right in. Good and experienced strikers dont come cheap. I can understand that he wants the best deal he can get as it is likely to be the last one he ever gets but feel it should be incentive based before it kicking in an optional second year.

  2. I thought I made it clear in my post that I wouldn't offer any more. Some agents would want a Dutch auction situation but in my opinion it's a dangerous road to go down. And you are right I don't have a clue but then you don't either.

  3. Nail on the head. The very same fans saying we shouldn't offer him a bit extra to keep him are the very ones who will be moaning if we can't replace what he does for the team. For a few extra thousand a year I don't see how it doesn't make sense to keep him. We won't sign equal quality for the difference He is 32, not 42. No reason with correct diet and training we couldn't get at least another 2 good years out of him.

  4. Me neither. I don't believe we should be upping the original offer too. He has been offered what the club thinks he is worth and that should be it. If he can get a better deal elsewhere he should take it.

  5. Graham is a natural goalscorer who holds the ball up very well. If his legs haven't gone again he will be a big asset in the Championship.

  7. Don’t know any details, only Bolton have offered more money, believe he hopes Rovers come back with better offer, but you can’t blame Rovers not to give silly contracts to older players (Murphy) etc.

  9. I'd worry if Graham went, who we could get as a replacement. He's been a crucial goalscorer for us in his 2.5 seasons, but not just that, his hold up play & game awareness has really shone through. He's also highly respected by the squad as a senior pro, as mentioned by Mowbray in his latest interview on the Rovers website. How often did Dack sing his praises last year season as being instrumental to his own performances? Whilst I'm not saying keep him at any cost, I do think a 2 year deal for him should be stretched to, at a fair price for someone who had proven his worth to date. Most of us already agree we need 1 first team ready CF this window, which will be hard enough in itself to find w/o doubling the task.

  10. Two Walkers, bold. What about two Kanes up top? Would be unstoppable.

  11. Can't believe Southgate is taking Danny Rose when he hasn't played most of the season then comes out with his mental problems. The player looks off the pace far too much to get upto speed for this coming world cup tournament.

  12. So we let him go for the sake of, let's say, less than 200,000. All those saying let him go, what then? Who do we sign to replace him? I know, not yer job to identify any potential signings... But ye will be quick to criticise Mowbray or whoever if he isn't replaced properly. I don't think we should be held for ransom, but this isn't some random player. We know what he is about and what he brings to the team. Whether it's for 90 min every week or not, he is still a very useful player to have around. Good, experienced strikers don't grow on trees.

  14. Nobody direct or I would have posted it - just a middle man. Regardless, I think Graham is value at 2 years and wouldn't be surprised to see him get a 2 year deal on reduced weekly wages. He can still perform.

  15. Toulon Tournament U21s Semi- Final 6th June 2018 Scotland 1 - England 3 Match highlight: England played in red shirts. The Scotland bench wore red shirts and the Ref made them wear bibs. He should have made them 'skins', although I suppose Toulon is a bit warm for that. TBF is was an ok game and Scotland did have the first half. The history books will record that the cream of English youth stuffed the cream of Scottish youth at Football.

  17. I'm talking in general, not this season. It's because in the 80s and 90s the gap between salaries in the SPL and other major European leagues wasn't as great,so players in their prime like Laudrup and Larson may move there. Other clubs in the top flight wouldn't lose their players to relatively lower league English clubs just because they could pay seriously more in wages. However the stupid money thrown about by TV means that average players would rather turn up on £8k in the Champinship than in Scotland. That's not a fault or criticism of the Scottish league. It's just another side effect of the gross money in the game. I'm not knocking the competitiveness of the league outside of Celtic, just that the quality of players plying their trade in Scotland's is worse than in previous eras.

  18. I'm guessing but I would think the length of the contract would be as important to Graham as the money. I would like him to stay but I don't think we should be offering more than a one year deal.

  19. If this is true then we are fooked. If frigging Bolton can afford to offer a player more than we can then I'm lowering my expectations for this summer greatly.

  20. Believe Bolton talking to Danny Graham, and offering more money than Rovers,he’s waiting for Rovers to up their offer.

  21. Sam Gallagher and Armstrong. Potentially a good pairing and possible?

  22. I hope Moore isn't a target not good enough. Toney has potential but couldn't be relying on him to come in and replace Graham, he is still learning the game.Armstrong I would like to see us sign but again won't be a replacement for Graham too small to play up front on his own and can't hold the ball up.Sam Winnall maybe. I think a lot of people are underestimating Graham's importance to this side.Yes he had a poor start last year but we looked a whole lot better as a team when he got a run of games and it wasn't stop start.Dack also looked a lot better and more dangerous when we had Graham in the side.As others have said it will take a nice chunk of change to bring in a like for like Graham replacement who will also need time to Bed in and work on a partnership with Dack.

  23. A bit generous to say Rashford is better than Sterling. Compare their numbers and Rashford is nowhere near him... To be fair, we should be playing the both of them and Kane IMO.

  24. Watched all the warm up games. Think the first xi will be ----------------------Pickford --------Walker----Stones----Maguire Trippier--------Henderson---------Rose ---------Lingard--------------------Alli ---------------Kane-------Rashford It's a big call to drop Sterling, but Rashford was superb. Harsh for Dier to be dropped but think Henderson has edged it, and the system doesn't really work with both of them in there. Rest of team picks itself I think. Stones at centre of defence worries me a bit, but I think Southgate will definitely go for it. Were nowhere near the level of France, Germany etc. talent-wise but I have admiration for how Southgate has pulled the team together with a smart system.

  25. Really impress by Rashford, Rose and Delph. Rose has good forward all game. Best England left back in country by miles. Rashford looks threating at every opportunity. So skilful Delph has played well by getting forward. Positional good

  26. When is there going to be an England international at Ewood Park? It seems like there's a better atmosphere when football comes home to the North. Wembley is full of tourists.

  28. Dack was back at Brockhall today pushing himself as he recovers from his hamstring strain. Hopefully he hits the ground running for us as he faces up to the challenge of the Championship where he has never played before and in many respects has to prove himself. http://www.lancashiretelegraph.co.uk/sport/16276599.Dack_back_at_Brockhall_as_Rovers_man_steps_up_pre-season_work/

  29. As good as Danny has been for us there’s no way we should be giving two years well paid contracts to a striker who rarely lasts 90 minutes. If the piggies think he is the answer then they quite clearly haven’t a clue. Which is nice.

  30. Our wage bill will have gone up without any signings through the door as the lads who had relegation wage reduction clauses in their contracts will see their wages return to their original level, Waggot confirmed this in the telegraph a couple of weeks ago

  34. Graham seems to play better when he’s playing for a new contract (remember when he was here on loan and the second half of last season) - one year deal for me.
    1 point
  35. Graham is a tricky one as although ideally you wouldn’t give him 2 years his intelligence and awareness would be very hard to replace on the cheap. Even when not on his game he knows what’s going on around him and what to do, something Nuttall and Samuel lack. Presume he’d rather stay here so a similar contract to last time with regards to a potential extra year may seal it.

  36. https://www.blackpoolgazette.co.uk/sport/football/blackpool-fc/far-east-company-bids-25m-for-blackpool-fc-1-9196506 Take it with a pinch of salt with the Oyston’s, but £25 million for a third division club with no training ground (well a field and a couple of portakabins) and a three sided ground. Once again, nice one Walkers...

  37. Yeah but on the same deal he signed with us when he joined. In telegraph few weeks back that we are trying to negotiate on lesser terms. Disagree with the posters who say Graham is finished and wouldn't mind him not re-signing only have to look at his performances 2nd half of season to know that's nonsense.Yeah we won't get a full 90 out of him and will probably not have the legs to start every game but imo we should be doing what we can to get him signed up for next season

  38. Why would Chelsea loan him out to be back up?

  39. I went and it was an excellent game with an under strength Lancashire made it a tight game, although it became very difficult in the last few overs with the loss of wickets. As Lancs couldn’t qualify they rested Joe Minnie and Graham Onions for the Championship game at weekends don’t that was probably the difference, comb8ned with several dropped catches.

  40. As I posted on the last page there are reasons why the standard has fallen but it Is as poor as it has ever been. I don't think anyone ever said it was league two standard although I said league one for most clubs which I think is fair. However if there's was any up and coming young player then I'd still have a look at bringing them to a Championship club. I'd worry about any non-Celtic journeymen coming in though.

  43. I wonder did Downings confidence take a knock? In fairness he did little wrong, but the minute Lenihan returned he was out of the starting 11. Downing was a huge reason in us going up. He did a great job while Lenihan was out,. I do agree on the above than Lenihan could make it to the Premier league. I really think the stint he has had in centre midfield will really stand to him going forward as teams look more and more towards ball playing centre halves. I think he has the potential to have a really good season

  46. Whatever anyone says about fitba the fact is that Scotland has the highest attendances at football per capita in the world and has had since anyone can remember. That may be hard for people to accept but it is a fact. There’s a lot wrong with the product but it’s obviously not all bad as that amazing fact bears out. Yes English football is of a higher standard but that has been hugely exaggerated in the modern era due to the money available while when things were more even back in the 80s there wasn’t that much between the 2 leagues. Followers of English football should stop sneering and think about the ills of your own crime and corruption riddled league before having a go at other supposedly inferior leagues. And by the way the last month or so this year the SPL was exciting and competitive, unlike the EPL which seemed dull and predictable in comparison. Maybe you should adopt a split system as well.

  47. The fact he is clearly putting effort in means he gets a clean slate from me to prove me wrong that he isn't good enough for rovers. Let's hope he somehow learns how to be composed when his chance comes over the summer
