  3. You can post links plus comments in this thread. JB's guidance notes in the Links Only thread are quite clear. Some on here should read more, post less or at least keep up to speed.

  4. If we had signed a 33 year old from another club on a one year deal people would be up in arms. I don't buy the leader/coach/experience/knows the club line that is being spun to justify his contract. I have seen enough of him over the last couple of seasons to know he simply isn't good enough anymore.

  5. The England football team were visiting children at a Russian orphanage today. "It was heartbreaking to see their sad faces with no hope," said Vladimir aged 6.

  6. As the World Cup gets nearer the papers are full of Russian connected football stories. This curious but intriguing story was published in The Sunday Times linking the Rovers, The textile industry, espionage, the Russian Revolution and the Russian Football League! The story begins in the first decade of the 20th Century. Russia is keen to develop its textile industry through increased mechanisation. So they turn to a part of the world famous for its expertise in this field namely Lancashire. Adverts were placed in the Times and other places for young men to emigrate to the Moscow area lured by offers of work and a sense of adventure. The advert also added that an ability to play football would be advantageous. 2 brothers called Clement and Harry Charnock from Lancashire went out there to work and after some months founded a football team called Morozovsky FC . Morozovsky was the name of the owner of some textile mills where many of the English ex pats were working. There is a grainy photograph of the team lining up for a photo shoot before a game but what is clear is that they are kitted out in the famous blue and white halves. So perhaps we can assume that the Charnock brothers were Rovers fans who had obtained the strip from Rovers. They joined the Moscow League and were incredibly successful winning the league title 5 years in succession from 1910-14. The British diplomat Bruce Lockhart played for the team in 1912 before being expelled from Russia on espionage charges. The blue and white halves were achieving fame in Russia and Mr. Morozovsky must have been a very happy man. However the onset of war brought an end to the football and later in 1917 The Russian Revolution ended English influence on the new national sport of football. Morozovsky FC became Dynamo Moscow and played for a while in the blue and white halves but my Google search today showed that their strip is now mainly blue shirts, a bit like Everton. There are many fascinating threads to this story. What happened to the Charnock brothers at the onset of war? Did they return home or stay in Russia even after the Revolution? Perhaps they are known to people on here as Charnock is a common name. I will now follow the fortunes of Dynamo Moscow more closely from now on! Intriguingly back in England Rovers won the league in 1911 and reached 2 semifinals so were a dominant force in the domestic game and so were no doubt more than happy to kit out Morozovsky FC and influence the game in Russia. When I read the story I felt a certain pride in supporting this great club of ours. We might be in a trough at the moment but we have been a real giant throughout the history of the game.

  7. If true that’s just silly. Have a links only thread if you want but it shouldn’t affect what’s posted in this thread.

  10. Should be: Links Thread = Link only. Discussion thread = Link only with optional comment and further discussion.

  11. Surely you can post links in other posts. I don't want to have to look at the other thread for links then come here to discuss it. That's plain daft. The other thread is for links ONLY and that makes sense. It's for those who only want to see that and not read any further

  12. More likely an indication of budget levels and inability to spend on fresh players.

  13. Not happy with that to be honest. That money could have been better spent elsewhere. How many games will he start next season ?

  17. I like the look of this guy. Sign him immediately. Fantastic hairstyles. Something we have been lacking since Savage left. A...B...C , 1-2-3 nil to the Rovers

  18. ...or we ve actual got money to spend ..(can afford giving Conway a new probably reduced one year deal)....a sudden influx of young players going to be added the squad ..an old disciplined head required to integrate the new players into the Blackburn Rovers way of thinking... show them squad etiquette of a winning disciplined happy squad to hopefully continue where we left off last season.? This is how we do it lads .. Continuity ?

  19. Agreed.I don't buy it either. Going a bit further, I am troubled by the decision and what it could imply....

  20. I hope Bennett is on the case. I think Armstrong and Chapman added greatly to the team spirit last season and that can only help this year. Chapman showed glimpses of brilliance so a further year loan to see how his hamstring is won't hurt us or Boro. Likewise Armstrong seems to have the touch of scoring goals for Mowbray so a chance for Newcastle to see him at this level under him is a no-brainer, despite his recent let down at Bolton. Two lads who have both lifted international youth trophies can't be bad. Get them wrapped up - Armstrong permanent, Chapman loan! I think the collectiveness shown by the team last season was one of my highlights. We had to rally together after a terrible start and did so. Then, in my mind, a weak squad may have collapsed after that 2-0 come back from Wigan but we pulled our socks up and took it to the post. All credit goes to Mowbray and the boys there. I'd do all I can to keep the core of that squad together.

  22. Bruce walking away would be the easy option. He had a very good budget last season and while he was there. He also signed loads of players on loan. Not getting that squad promoted is a failure and it’s his failure. The chairman deserves credit for backing him, if anything. That being said, I rate the guy as a manager and he has a good record, but like anyone, he’s not above criticism.

  23. Or more than likely he’s downgrading his shortlist to option C having been told he’s buttons to spend. Nicko suggested they’ve seen PNE ran on a budget of 12m a year (wage bill), we were 8.5 pre promotion and those promotion wage rises will now kick in. Can’t imagine we’ve wiggle room to bring 5 first team players in who will improve the starting 11. Hope I’m wrong.

  25. Disagree. I thought he stood out as one of the better players in the playoffs for Scunthorpe and was excellent for much of the season. Also scooped all player of the year always for Scunny. I think he would be a great signing.

  27. It's not hard to grasp for most of us. We were responding to what chaddy SAID he'd been told. But it would help if you changed the thread title i think

  28. But he has to accept his responsibility in the mess as he was the manager with a huge budget and allowed to sign players and take in expensive loans. He failed to get them promoted and now it looks like he will conveniently hide behind the off the field stuff. He has walked away before several times and has had nine managers jobs in eighteen years.

  30. What was it 5 million per season and a few loans should safely see us in the top 6 and Europe (only 7 years late and counting), So 5 million at a minimum this season as per Jerom Mrs Desai

  31. It would at least suggest that Mowbray would like to sign him

  32. Happy about both Graham and Conway signing new contracts with the club. Two players who clearly love the club and give it their all for the shirt. Conway came up big for the club when needed. There were several times last season when he came on the pitch and sparked life into the side. Why would he not be worth another year? He will either be a great contributor to our season once more or push others in the squad to be at their best.

  34. I agree, especially since we have 0 out and out wingers at the club. Will be a good backup/squad option

  35. The 2 players who in my lifetime should have been great players for England but were criminally underused/ misused were Scholes and Le Tissier. Both victims of being sidelined for supposedly better players who weren't actually better.

  36. What's a reputable source? It's someone who you can actually believe. Haven't seen one link I actually believe yet.

  37. Nixon hasn't had a clue or got anything right about Rovers since his mate wee Coyley left. So calling him a reputable source in terms of Rovers is pushing it. Calling Nixon a reputable source full stop is pushing it too be fair. Big Scottish Fud. Don't even get me started on that tosser Cross either.

  41. Some are too forceful, some too greedy and others are discouraging (perhaps out of jealousy in extreme cases) but there's also plenty who just shut up and support their kids. In this instance "happy clapping" is the best strategy. Maybe a bit of "tough love" so to speak now and again but only in moderation and when it's really needed. Bit harsh maybe but maybe that kid needed to be a little more forceful at the time about his Father's influence and tell him to back off a bit. Teenagers aren't exactly incapable of standing up to their parents though perhaps it would have made no difference whatsoever with his Father. On the other hand his Uncle was ex professional footballer Mark Falco and perhaps there was a lack of support there as well but can't say for sure. He speaks of his alienation towards football now compared to how he felt as a kid. I know how that feels. Read comments about vile parents telling their kids to break his legs (which were insured for 1 million apparently) no wonder people become jaded. Ironically enough he knew David Bentley who later became disillusioned himself (even before he left Rovers the first time) with being treated like a corporate puppet. I'm surprised more players don't retire at a younger age.for reasons unrelated to injury, etc. There's more cases like Collymore (though first half of his career at least was pretty good people only seem to remember the later period) than Cantona though. EDIT-Falco's Daughter said on twitter Pike isn't her Dad's nephew.

  42. " Private Eye" had it best with it's front page at the last World Cup. The England team are filing down the staircase onto the Tarmac. The pilot has opened the cockpit window and he's saying - " Shall I keep the engines running lads ? "
