Sometimes topics move away from the thread title, so what? If anything happens transfer wise the thread and it’s contributors will be all over it. I enjoyed a trip down memory lane, made a dull thread a bit interesting on a Tuesday afternoon.8 points

I think Southgate is a very lucky man indeed. First off in getting the job in special circumstances following the Allardyce debacle when normally he wouldn't have got close to the England job, then because there was an obvious lack of proven English alternatives that would be accepted by the media and fans, and then because of how things unfolded at the World Cup in terms of a good draw he is now rumoured to be getting a new long term contract and being hailed as brilliant. We beat Tunisia, Panama and Sweden, lost to Belgium and Croatia and scraped past Colombia on penalties yet he's hailed as a messiah by some whilst Allardyce has, in my opinion, achieved far more in his club jobs, as has Hodgson, yet they get all the negative press. As far as I'm concerned the jobs Allardyce did at Bolton, Rovers, West Ham, Sunderland, Palace and Everton and the jobs Hodgson has done at Fulham, WBA and Palace vastly outweigh leading England to the SF of a World Cup.6 points

The bench is important. You cant win things without decent options sat on that bench. Chapman is a great option to bring on as teams tire late in the game. Maybe that all he is, if it is then so be it. But he has tremendous upside and potential for a lot more6 points

Like Martin Dahlin and Christian Dailly FFS!? Hodgson was responsible for some of the most overpriced shyte we've ever had the misfortune of watching. How's France?6 points

Same, he was class. 97/98 Henchoz - success Dahlin - Failed (was looked upon as a good signing though, injuries ruined this one) Fila - success I would say Corbett - failed Valery - failed Anders Anderson - failed Tore Pedersen - failed Fettis - failed oversaw departures of - Le Saux, Berg, Pearce, Given, Coleman, Bohinen, Warhurst, Donis 98/99 Davies - failed Dailly - failed Ward - failes Perez - success of sorts had problems settling Konde - failed Peacock - failed oversaw departures of - Hendry, Ripley, Beattie Probably fair to say his record in the transfer window at Rovers was pretty disastrous.4 points

I'm sorry but Kevin Davies WAS a dolloper at Rovers, relative to price and expectation. We wouldn't have had to sell him back for a fraction of the price, only for him to be released by Southampton a further 4 years down the line, otherwise. Simply because he eventually went on to be a good player at a middling Prem team that suited him, several seasons after he played for us, does not rewrite history. We were trying to get back in the elite at the time (a level he never reached) and he was our record buy at the time, being talked about as a new Shearer. Is it any wonder our fans deemed his 1 goal return in a season we got relegated as anything other than dolloping? Lost Beattie in the deal too. Kevin f*%£ing Davies. Please. One of the worst deals we ever did. Still angry about it!!4 points

Because everyone that signs up accepts it in the T&Cs and as long as it's used as a description rather than an insult it's accepted. Just as the club don't ban swearing in songs.3 points

Why are people discussing Roy Hodgson time at Rovers and England plus Allardyce time here and Southgate England in the the Loan Window thread?. Some of us want to read posts about the thread title not about Hodgson time here which was 20 years ago.3 points

Granted the Wickham rumour has been dismissed but for the right money, he would suit our approach play. One of those 'gambles' that either pays off massively (like when we signed the injury plagued Santa Cruz on the cheap) or doesn't (like the injury plagued Santa Cruz that City bought from us for 5 times as much ?).3 points

Cheers for the report. Really interested in Rothwell, far too long we've had wishy washy centre midfielders with no defining characteristics as footballers... This lad seems to have some ability on the ball at least. Hopefully gets more opportunities for us, Mowbray seemingly rates him.2 points

I think in the back of their minds they always felt they could score a few more if required, attacking play seemed to be the main focus tonight2 points

Tony asking for criticism if he goes with Smallwood and Bennett Centre mod and on the wing respectively on Saturday. A lot of food for thought from this game. Rothwell, Bennett and Travis all surely putting huge pressure on Smallwood a position in the team now.2 points

Very, just hope Mulgrew, Lenihan and Dack all avoid injury. Wouldn't have risked Mulgrew and Dack. Hope Rothwell has a strong performance in central midfield, we could do with a natural in there who can be slightly more attacking.2 points

There's always excuses with our fans really. Can't help but feel the followings last season helped the players go that extra mile at times too.2 points

So Chaddys telling us again what we can and can't discuss. We'd all love to be discussing incomings but they're not happening yet. I just glanced at the Hodgson stuff and didn't bother reading it. Easy2 points

Some of us want to read 'proper' and 'factual' transfer stories and links, and not absolute tripe from @ReluctantNicko but hey oh2 points

Not sure about that, my impression this summer was that it was all a bit tongue in cheek...2 points

Roy struggles anywhere that has expectation of success. Put him in an underdog scenario and he'll almost always overachieve, put him in the opposite situation and he'll generally fail miserably. Even during his time at Inter they'd been struggling massively prior to his arrival, hence the relative success he had there.2 points

Quality replaced by dross. Hodgson was the architect of our relegation. Should never have been appointed England manager either2 points

If he was 17 he's probably gonna play for the U-18 to start with. Wouldn't take the supposed interest from big clubs too seriously. Quite common that foreign young talents in an age group have trials/training spells with English clubs. If he was that good he would being going elsewhere for a lot of money.2 points

When a player hasn’t played a game for 665 days he should be taking whatever wage he can get. but this is football and he somehow would be expecting a huge wage to go to any club. The madness of Football.2 points

It is but even three from the four or similar deals but with the likes of Brereton or some other attractive names would go some way to nullifying the disappointment of deadline day.2 points

What a talent he was when he first broke into the City team. Something must have gone badly wrong there.2 points

Even in a holding role Adam doesn't have the legs for the championship anymore. He'd get run all over the shop. Presume he'll end up back in Scotland. Hope we bring a forward in before the weekend definitely, take some pressure off DG.2 points

Didn't score too many at brum, but intellegent fans would have noticed other aspects, such as his all round play and seen promise there. A bit like our numpty fans looked at Kevin Davies and saw a dolloper.. Whereas an intelligent football man like Sam allardyce saw something else entirely.2 points

Yeah and 3 signings out of the blue in Rothwell, Davenport and Palmer DO show a bit of imagination. Rumoured targeting of Freeman and Brereton also refute that somewhat. Targeting players who show potential is the name of our game now, regardless whether you've heard of them before.2 points

TNA/Impact AJ Styles was as good as anyone. Like with a lot of talent, he is kind of boring in the WWE machine. The one downside to Styles is that the styles clash is a ridiculous finisher. I am going to slam your feet into the ground!!!2 points

I'm hoping people say they've smashed it and that means it's the last we see of Evans and Smallwood this season!1 point

I don't think there will be many deals that can be structured as a loan with an option to make it permanent in January if we fancy it. It is likely to either be a straight loan until January or a loan with an agreement to make permanent set in stone now. The loaning clubs will either want a permanent deal/sale to be guaranteed or will want to leave it as a loan, see how the player goes on and then make a decision down the line. Letting a player out on loan and then giving us an option to buy but not committing to buy is too heavily stacked in favour of the club receiving the player.1 point

I think you could make a pretty good case for either. I'd say Eddie was better at promos than AJ, which might push him marginally ahead. Both exceptional talents though. Eddie's best match (imo): AJ's best (again imo):1 point
