  1. When Wigan sent us down and they stayed up, they sang ‘you’ll never play us again’. Karma’s a bitch, lads. ?

  2. Crack open the biscuits, we’ve won a do. We got the second goal to settle the game but it was the introduction of Rothwell that saw our style of play change incredibly and got the best out of Reed and Dack especially (who seemed to riff off of him), and we created a couple of chances for Nuttall - who should have got at least one. Dack missed a sitter but pounced on a bad back pass and brought the points home. Before that Graham took advantage of a (yet another) long punt from Raya, calmly tucking away his second, after the ball bounced over the defender - assisted by the wind. That, after a penalty, was enough to see him - rather bizarrely after only 60 minutes of huffing and puffing - get the MoM award. Personally I’d have given the honour to Magloire for his contribution to a rare clean sheet on his debut, after growing in confidence with every minute of the game. (Even though Rothwell once again showed that he is the best player in the squad by the proverbial country mile). A tough first half and good second with a very enjoyable last 15 minutes. A leaf out of the U23 book with us carrying on attacking wave after wave at 2-0 up rather than sitting back and jitterily trying to defend (and regularly failing). A better team than Wigan might have punished us but we did enough on the night. Maybe even warrants the chocolate hobnobs.

  3. Look where the initial idea comes from. I hardly think you can accuse that poster/blogger/tweeter of having that particular agenda! He’s never slow to criticise any anti-Venky talk. I’ve heard similar talk about Davenport. I see Jim voicing the same thing as pretty strong corroberation. I’ll be the first to admit I view Venky’s with absolute suspicion and believe the worst of them readily. He doesn’t. Personally I think not being suspicious of Venky’s is at best extremely naive. It would only take a couple of minutes to identify dozens of suspect transfers that have been made over the last 8 years that benefitted certain individuals rather than the team. I suppose it comes down to this with Brereton... if you believe that Mowbray was given 7 million to do with as he pleased, and instead of addressing a threadbare and below par back line, he spunked 7 million on a player he doesn’t rate enough to play in his natural position, if at all, then surely he deserves all the criticism he is currently getting and some.

  4. A really welcome win which should give the players some confidence after the poor run we have been on. I thought we looked like a team who hadn't won for some time until Reed cleverly won the penalty and Graham despatched expertly. In the second half I thought Dacks play was excellent as he got on the ball and looked hungry. I was delighted when he scored and he looked relieved. Graham was terrific throughout and other players seemed to feed off him. Magloire looked good and it was pleasing to see him square up to that nasty little shit Garner. He looked tired towards the end and lost a few headers but overall he can be delighted with his debut. And I think Mowbray deserves some credit for his changes. I liked it when McManaman outpaced Conway early in the second half. Mowbray saw that Wigan were going to target Conway down our right and immediately swapped Conway and Bennett over. Chuffed to win because ultimately that's all that matters.

  5. Now we can safely say we are staying up and we aren’t going up either, I’d like too see Rothwell get a good run in the team from now till the end of the season, Brereton and Chapman too... Raya Nyambe Travis and Magloire all products of our academy, don’t think too many other championship sides will be starting four academy graduates in there teams. The future could be bright for us, we certainly have a lot of potential in our team let’s just hope the lads fulfill it.

  6. Magloire making the absolute most of that debut. Lovely stuff. Would still like to see Rothwell start. Terrific when he's out there. So positive.

  7. Seriously... What has Rothwell done but come on every single time and look... By a long way... Our best player? All whilst far less talented footballers like Bennett and Smallwood run around the pitch. I'm at a loss at this point. I'm sick of watching blood and guts footballers who are clearly falling way short in this league whilst we play insepid, predictable, nothing long ball football. Play your best players man! Jesus christ. Its beyond ridiculous now. I just don't understand the fella.

  8. I’m gonna lose my fucking shit if Rothwell is on the bench again.

  9. Hanley is kicking about on the bench and that Bauer is better than anything we have now, they would make a good partnership in the middle. Go get em Tony. Grant still comes home regularly

  10. More than 3 sadly, I’d say about 7-8 to get us anywhere near a promotion team

  11. The absence of Mulgrew and achieving a clean sheet is far beyond coincidence for me, the man can’t defend. Well done Magloire, showing how it’s done, put his bollocks on the line several times.

  12. I don't care what formation it is, Reed and Travis must both play centre midfield.

  13. What a good footballer Danny Graham is. Sorry Rev, but he certainly has a touch of class about him. Comfortable at at the end but for quite a while both teams looked dearth of confidence. No complaints tonight, but it certainly helped us a lot playing against a Wigan side that had no resemblance to the Wigan sides of the last few seasons.

  14. Ya not sure if it was because of Rothwell being on the field, but Dack really got the game by the scruff second half. Some lovely takes and quick turns to get is on the attack

  15. Terrible first half but a much better second although it must be said Wigan were a very poor side. I actually thought that we played better when Graham went off as we got the ball down and played which brought Dack more into the game. Magloire looked very composed on debut (you have to wonder why he hasn't been used sooner), Nyambe was solid as well, even Williams did ok although he does struggle when he is pulled out of position, but Wigan only did it a couple times. I thought that Conway and Bennett in the wide roles were poor defensively and ineffective going forward. Reed I thought was fantastic in his best position, (a shame that he has been so criminally under used in it) man of the match tonight for me. Travis got better as the game went on, as did Dack. It is no surprise that Dack looks a better player when Rothwell is on the pitch as not only is he on Dack's wave length but he also gives defenders another creative player to worry about which frees up space for Dack. I'm not sure what more Rothwell has to do for Mowbray to give him a start. Armstrong was disappointing as he has been for most the season bar the month of January. Graham stepped up when needed, a very good penalty and a lovely taken second goal. What Nuttall may lack in quality he makes up for in effort and made a constant nuisance of himself for their back line. All in all a much needed 3 points that must surely all but secure our Championship status for next season. Now let's hope we can kick on and have a good finish to build on for next season. Although there will be much sterner challenges to come than that posed by Wigan tonight.

  16. The perfect cherry on top would be if we got Paul Cock sacked. They could be level points with the drop zone after tomorrow’s games and they were shite. Anyone else see him bickering with Powell too?

  21. I’ve no idea what people see in Armstrong. He appears in almost every starting lineup on this forum. Nothing but a top half League 1 player at best.

  22. Conway on for Bell, meanwhile Joe Rothwell must be wondering why he bothers or what he has to do to get in the team. So am I, Joe, so am I! Conway is finished! ?

  25. On reflection I think the biggest problem is that TM can't develop a team and is diabolical at doing so. The team that went down with - TM had very little opportunity to do anything other than to work with what he had. The results was ok - we got more points per game than we had under Coyle, we had a dodgy Huddersfield team helping one of our rivals, and we went down with a ridiculously high number of points. Had TM been appointed even a couple of games earlier, safety probably would have happened. Yes, he made mistakes and was too cautious, but it wasn't a terrible showing - a decent fight. Second season - promotion. Of that only 3 - arguably 4 until Lenihan became fit - of the first 11 needed replacing. TM did well to get Smallwood and Dack to be midfield enforcer and creator The majority of the team that won the division though, was already in place. Graham and Mulgrew's goals, the defensive solidity, Bennett covering well in 86 positions. Most of the other players he brought were bit part players, bar Downing, or flops. In fact he didn't have a proper left midfielder all season, looked thin at cb, and cover for both Dack and Graham was limited. Point is that we did well, but most of the pieces were already there, and the problems that needed additions, TM couldn't recruit solutions for. A case in point being the Whittingham fiasco - had Evans not done ok and Bennett well there we would have really struggled to have enough players at cm too. Problem is come season 3 those squad players who could get by in league 1, were always going to struggle a division up. This is made all the more difficult given that not a single player has come in who has improved the first team bar Reid. Add in the deficiencies within the squad - adequate cover at cb, adequate cover for Graham, a left midfielder, Basically TM has only really been able to use what he has got, with only a couple of decent signings in between. Thus when areas have needed improving, it hasn't happened. If you exclude Reid, it's as if the last 3 windows haven't really happened. Maybe you could make a case for Armstrong, but he hasn't really improved the team much either on reflection. By now the squad needed a few key additions to make them competitive and balance out the squad but TM seems incapable of doing that. 4 big successes in 4 windows is a pretty poor return for all his transfers. I'm not sure if it's chicken and egg, whether we have imbalances in the squad because TM can't recruit, or because TM doesn't recruit well we have the imbalances. Either way his inability to do anything developmentally and only work with what we've got is always going to let you down when you take a step up. For me, this weakness, and TMs successes all come into this pattern of only being able to work with what he has, and being poor in the transfer market thereby being unable to improve or balance a squad. For this reason I think he has to go.

  26. Wow, nail on head. The myth that TM plays nice football has been stored in legend faux pas with that '£50 war chest' and the Ronaldinho signing. Strange that 6 weeks ago I felt like the only "Mowbray out" in the world. Now I feel like the momentum has shifted well passed 50%. Is tonight finally the night the result leads to terrace boos and verbal discontent? The tannoy will already be set to 100% volume in anticipation to protect poor Tony as soon as that whistle blows.

  27. We are still somewhat an agents vehicle that kind of stuff doesn't disappear overnight. Mowbray is perfect foil for it, nice guy, ok manager, gets a good deal so won't rock the boat and can come out with allsorts at the drop of a mike in front of him as to why we aren't signing anymore decent players when we should. The cosy days are back at Ewood under the stability guise, just wait till the sales start again.........

  28. Yeah Lyons was decent. Probably had the best touch of any player on that pitch but his decision making wasn't the best in the final third. Two moments summed his performance up - two very clever pieces of skill/strength beyond his experience to beat one or two men, then when he lifted his head up to play the killer ball he once underhit and once overhit it due to trying to be a bit too cute. That's me being critical though. He got stuck in, never shirked a challenge, looked to drive forward when he had the ball and always looked to get the ball when he didn't have it. He looks tall, well built and strong which seems rare for a young attacking mid these days, something that would probably be a bonus in the Championship. He's very raw but good early signs. A natural talent, physically capable with a seemingly good attitude that could 'make it' with hard work and a good coaching team.

  30. Cracking game at Leyland tonight between two sides playing very attractive, attacking football. The lads did exceptionally well to pull back from two goals down to gain a valuable point in the relegation battle. Brighton looked the better side in the first half but in the second half we got on top with some excellent attacking football with both Joe Rankin-Costello and Lewis Thompson doing some excellent work as attacking full-backs - plenty of dangerous crosses delivered some delightful link-up play with Danny Butterworth and Stefan Mols. Buckley was again impressive in midfield and looks a fine prospect for the future. Three games left and still all to play for with West Ham picking up three points tonight - still three points behind us but with a game in hand and a better goal difference. It's going to be a tight finish at the bottom but, hopefully, we can get the points to keep us out of the bottom two - the away game at Tottenham is now looking likely to be huge as we are both locked on the same number of points.

  31. I used to play in a football team with Craig MacKay - Don's son. On a couple of occasions, despite being obviously busy at Rovers all week, Don came down to watch from the side lines. He never tried to tell us how to play but It terrified the opposition who thought he had come to scout one of our players. In that same team, incidentally, was Steve Archibald's brother and Neil Arthur of Blancmange fame.

  32. Thought 3 nil was a very flattering but welcome scoreline against a horrendous Wigan side. Dack deserved his goal, for 80 minutes he was so obviously out of form but he kept plugging away and that lucky goal may be just the ticket for a hot spell. Graham again is superb with such poor service to him, first half we were shite but he took his 2 goals very well and we have to pray hes not injured. Magloire did well enough at a level far above his station at the moment, one superb recovery tackle and one or 2 blocks, says alot for our organisation and/or their lack of quality meant he was barely involved but looked a bit flimsy especially in the air. Felt Williams and especially Nyambe also did a decent job in unfamiliar positions. They should have taken advantage of a back 5 as bad on paper as I can remember but fair play, collectively, cant grumble at all. Reed and in particular Travis were poor first half but were much more on the front foot in the second and ran the game through a high press. Rothwell is like a dog chasing a ball in whatever direction it goes and it can be risky to dribble in the wrong areas but hes undoubtedly a threat and perhaps deserves a chance over Armstrong on Saturday who was really poor. Nuttall I felt was very disappointing and if he is higher in the pecking order than Brereton then we need to worry.

  34. Well that was a throw back to last season - a League One match! Wow, Wigan are bad and if we couldn't have beaten that lot. Three nil is a tad misleading - we got a soft penalty and two gifts from Wigan. A bizarre start with Cook out five minutes before the teams emerged - can't recall having seen that before, a manager leaving his team in the changing rooms. Almost equally bizarre was Benson on the pitch awaiting Raya for a warm-up before the second half began - Raya leisurely emerged after Benson had been on the pitch for I guess two minutes and the warm up was restricted to just 3 shots / throws at Raya. Indiscipline or lack of respect on Raya's behalf? As for the game itself - well Magloire was okay but not really tested by Wigan. Not sure whether we were playing 3 or 4 at the back! Williams' distribution is truly awful. Didn't think Travis and Reed made the most of their opportunity and I was a bit disappointed with both. I felt that for most of the match they played too deep. As for Armstrong, what an appalling touch. Think he's a lad with pace but little else. Too much hoofball and we didn't get forward in numbers quickly enough to support Graham in the box. We stopped the rot but I think it was pretty poor stuff and there will be far more difficult tests ahead.

  43. Of course we need a win too end this horrendous run but I was just making the point that were we too win tonight it wouldn’t make a great difference too Mowbrays current standing with some fans and I do understand that. I really hope we can end this run and finish the season well, nobody wants too be that side that starts the season well and then ends it horrendously and takes that form into next season... We need too rediscover our fight and our team spirit which has been abundant for the last year or so, it’s all gone a bit flat at the minute which is a worry regarding the manager.. Has he lost the dressing room since he’s started too call players out in public? The only way we stop these questions is by winning tonight and then following it up in the next few games. Come on Rovers don’t have me freezing my bollocks off tonight for nothing..

  44. Unfortunately like you'll see yourself, most supporters are rating managers now on "Is he stealing from the club". You'll also get the "well he got promoted he's brilliant". He came second in a two teamed league and looked for a time to miss out to Shrewsbury managed by Hurst who very few on here rate. He lies to supporters saying we need 4/5 transfer windows to improve yet doesn't use them when they come around. Can't sort a defence out to save his life and plays a BTEC version of Sam Alardyce football. At least that guy could coach a defence. 4/10 manager for me. Below average and if we had competent owners he'd easily be replaceable.

  45. How dare he risk losing possession by shooting from so far out. We'll not see him this season then, he'll be having that coached out of him and be being taught about not crossing the half way line and keeping the team's shape.
