  1. At the time of signing he was a 21 year old forward, with 40ish league one and championship goals under his belt, also played and scored at every level for England up to u21's. All opinions but I wouldn't say paying £1.75m with that record and further development potential in today's market is anywhere near over the top.

  2. His comments in the LT trying to dig himself out of the Brereton signing sum it for me now it's utter garbled nonsense i'm afraid. Yes the lad might come good we hope he does but that isn't the issue and from that interview it's clear he's no real idea actually WHY he signed him other than he was a rated kid and he MIGHT come good in time and the owners are up for that sort of thing. No way in hell is that really a football decision it's just a potential money making investment and the guy still doesn't know whether he's a winger or a striker even though the lad himself and everyone else says he's a striker. No not good old tony i'll spend 7 million on a young striker then try and make him into a winger just to fit my team, i'll not even play him as a striker when I alter that team from the way it's set up to accommodate the first choice 9 & 10 !!!!!! Mans a confused mixed bag of contradictions what they hell is in those biscuits ?

  3. If pointing out that choosing two superior central midfielders has led to us to our only two wins in our last twelve is negative rhetoric, then fair enough. I just think the above and other observations are people expressing frustration at the same mistakes happening time and again.

  4. “I could have bought six or seven players for £1m each, whatever we paid for Ben, or we buy a talent that we think is going to be a massive asset for the football club down the line" @Biz - confirmation on the price.

  5. Until Mowbray changes his approach we won't progress. His approach is not to lose, he doesn't set out to win. Two DM's that never venture forward and '2.5 attackers' = not much fun at Ewood. Travis and Reed play together and it's 5 goals at home and no reply. He may well play the same team as against Derby tomorrow, but he'll revert to type at some point. He's just a very dull manager who plays dull football. Setting your team up to stop counter attacks instead of setting your team up to win the game is very Mowbray. Hopefully at some point he'll stop being negative and start being positive. Then we can all be positive, not just the fans that feel positive about his negativity.

  6. Usually they just pick there mates and who they enjoyed rooming with. I wouldn't take it to seriously. I agree about the forgotten club thing though it's like we are and always have been a stepping stone, a brief chapter in people's careers not worth bookmarking. It's sad really when you think of a premier league win, a league cup win, European football and promotions. It sticks in the throat abit especially when so few every go on to do anything better

  7. In fairness for £1.75m Armstrong has been an OK signing. He still has a lot to improve on but there is some raw talent there, and he's contributed decently enough despite being played repeatedly out of position on the left wing. In fact I'd say during our January run of wins Armstrong was our most important player, with multiple goals/assists. Without that we might be looking at a relegation battle right now, so even though I've been critical of Armstrong in the past I wouldn't put him in the category of bad signing. For me our worst signings, Brereton aside, weren't who we brought in but who we offered new contracts. Those are going to become an albatross around our neck in the next couple of seasons.

  10. That's because it'll be what whoever recommended this deal will have told the owners, a lot of speaking to them via the press is going on now again by the looks of it.

  11. I looked at Reeds celebrating Rothwell midweek and again on the club highlights channel, looked ecstatic I didn’t know whether it was a look of this is what we can do, show the faith type or generally just happily playing his football here. If saints stay up I’m not sure he’d be in their plans and I’m positive a top team failing to go up like a Leeds, Villa, Stoke, Derby type must be keeping an eye out. For me he’s a standout midfield player wise at this level who’s been criminally underused centrally and shunted wide half the time. He reminds me of a box to box player someone who can get back tackle, someone to bring a ball forward. No wonder his best games come in a 3 man midfield centrally where he’s not running for his partner I.e smallwood. A bit like our own Steven Reid/Gary Flitcroft type without the rocket, Steve sidwell type. Him box to box and a true Mokoena axe type behind and Someone to complement him with a bit more flair maybe Travis with his passing is the way forward. That said said I’ve stuck him behind 3 flair players with Travis centrally to get some width and creativity up top to cater for Graham. We need that stamina in the middle and drive. We ain’t going to beat relegated PL teams by either hoofing to Graham or triangles taka but we can be a steely team in the sheff Utd mode.

  12. who gives a shit ? The 10K will buy them in April or July. Until something changes at the club then that's it. Try getting shut of the Waggott Walk On Tax. Or getting shut of Waggott and his Tax. Or maybe even a Venky Apology.... I bet that isn't on your "fans" forum agenda.

  13. True but Shearer and Sutton have always had good things to say about the club and their time at Ewood imo. Both players spoke up about how Venkys were running the club and showed genuine concern...they have my up most respect for that alone. You get the impression they really enjoyed their spells in the old Blue n White as much as we did as fans.

  16. But we could have spent that 7m differently in the summer, never mind January. Think Mowbrays words will prove to be hollow ones when he no doubt signs a striker in the summer who will jump ahead of the goalless Brereton in the queue in a season we are allowed to judge him in.

  17. He definitely does not have a poor touch, in fact ive seen him numerous times pluck a ball out of the air and stop it dead. Also, Alex Neil said after he came here that he had done so choosing us over Preston so thats not true either. I dont think hes offered enough and I think hed be better placed on the right rather than the left as he can use his pace to go on the outside. His decision making is a major downfall. God knows what Mowbray sees to seperate him and Rothwell defensively either.

  18. Didn't Jason Lowe captain England U21's!? Enough said. For that money, we could have signed the likes of Pukki with plenty of change left over. Also, think Brum paid less than Armstrong's fee for Adams. Just feel for £1.75m we could have done much, much better.

  19. Been linked with that job on and off for ages. Could be a spectacular success or horrible failure. He did quite well initially at both Spurs and Villa but then things unravelled. Helps when his mates Ferdinand and Ramsey are running things behind the scenes at QPR.

  20. Get rid of the £3 pay on the day adds on to ticket prices...!!!!!!!!..
    2 points
  21. I think we'll be lucky if the club has even announced prices and selling periods by then, and yes I think actually getting them on sale is too much to ask. To me it is utter madness to not have them on sale by the day of the Swansea game at the absolute latest. No doubt we'll wait until that is out of the way and the season is over and then release them when many people won't be back at Ewood until August. I noticed on the Fans Forum minutes that Waggott said he expected prices to be announced later in April. That isn't the same as getting tickets on sale. For me there should be an early bird window which expires about now or late April, and then general sale is opened by the day of the Swansea game so that anyone attending that match has the opportunity to sign up whilst they are at Ewood, especially if that game is being treated as a cheap ticket day and there could well be people there who don't usually go.

  22. In January we were within touching distance of the playoffs, if we’d spent the £6m on a few players at that point to help when injuries kicked in, then we could have still be contending at the top end. So blowing that money has had a big negative impact on this season.

  23. Qatar twice made serious bids to buy Rovers, beginning offering Walker family long before they bought PSG and followed some years on- https://punemirror.indiatimes.com/sports/cricket/blackburn-rovers-fc-up-for-sale/articleshow/31975419.cms https://www.lancashiretelegraph.co.uk/sport/football/rovers/news/9365245.blackburn-rovers-owners-deny-qatari-visit-reports/ Most recent approach.

  24. Armstrong has been a great signing. Decent fee, good amount of goals and hasn't ever shown a sign of discontent or off field trouble. He's a steady little player with good potential for resale. He is one of Tony's better signings

  25. I'm a big believer in not changing a winning team (assuming the same XI are all available for selection), so I'd keep the same team tbh. Even if that team does contain Conway, who I don't think we should retain....

  26. You've only got to listen to the opinions of various ex pro members of the football panels to realise they aren't the fountain of all football wisdom. That's why dozens of managers get fired every year, they get more things wrong than they get right.

  27. I don’t want opposition managers to tell us that Mowbray and Venus are good coaches. I want our football and results to be the judge of that. It’s all well and good calling things “negative rhetoric” to try to shut down other’s opinions but it doesn’t mean jack out in the “real world” where we’ve had two wins and one draw in 12 matches and the manager publicly states that he prefers the midfield line up that played in the 9 defeats. Stick to discussing the issues and stop calling people negative just because you don’t like “the truth” to be dealt with in facts.

  28. The comparisons are as football managers. Mowbray was brought in just over two years to keep us up (his words). He failed. If he had kept us up, our position today is only marginally better than it would have been then. Therefore, our club has barely progressed. Tactically and player trading wise, there is hardly any difference between the three. Mowbray's comments and excuses, IMO, are now very similar to the desperate days of Kean and C o y l e. I don't give a feck about Mowbray's 'nice guy' image, his values or his wife's lemon drizzle cake. The bottom line is Mowbray is handsomely paid to improve and progress the footballing side of the club. IMO, we are now regressing, our football, in the main, is dire, our recent results have been appalling and the thousands and thousands of empty seats are an embarrassment. In my book he has to go and quick as I think we are going nowhere other than downwards.

  29. I imagine that if someone had the ear of the owners, and whoever that is convinces the owners that he is a good signing and they stump up the money than that's how it would be the 'owners signing'. Then, if Mowbray doesn't want to look completely impotent he has to make out it's his idea. All hypothetical of course...

  30. "Whether it’s next season, or the one after, as a manager I understand you only get so much time, so for me we will try and strengthen in the summer and make sure everyone knows next year we will be competing with all of those clubs to try and get out of this division.” - Mogga There you have. More BS rhetoric that he can't be judged on for months and months. A bit like his 'Brereton will be a superstar one day' quote. Good managers just get on and do it.

  32. I'd say the price is about right he's only a couple of years older than Brereton and he already has some lower league pedigree, plenty goals and a bit of experience. He has a visible asset in pace and has demonstrated that on a good day he can play on the wing, up front and a wide striker role. Compared to BB then at 1.75 before add ons he is the type of player they should be taking a punt on imo.

  33. Think I’m being realistic more than mediocrity, who would your kind of manager be, taking into budgets etc, think he’s a very knowledgeable guy,but sometimes overthinks things and worries too much about the opposition, but like I said decent manager, and realises he needs to replace 4/5 players next season. Hopefully he gets time to get them in, and progress again next season.

  35. Armstrong for Conway and Nyambe for Bennett. That might be our strongest team. For as frustrating as Armstrong is, his pace is terrifying and gives Rothwell and Dack the option to "drop balls" in behind for him.

  37. Regarding Jason Steele, Brighton have the misfortune of having him on their books. He signed for them in June 2018 and, so far, has made just the one appearance in the FA Cup.

  38. The empty seats thing is a red herring. We will finish with an average attendance of around 14,500 which give or take a few hundred either way is pretty standard for us in this league post 2012 (Coyle season aside). Venky’s are to blame for the thousands of empty seats.

  39. Sounds like if he hadn’t had by chance got a start against us this time two years ago he’s never have been signed. Reckless way to spend considerable club dosh, no?

  40. Think a lot of Rovers fans would have Big Sam back but he was probably the most negative manager we’ve had.

  42. You already have, you've just not said which one. Weird? You 'splashed' on here that you speak to current league managers and coaches. I was just asking you who they were. If you can't remember that's fine. That's a revelation. Cheers. Without a name that's a fairly meaningless statement. It's there to add weight to your argument, I get that, but it actually detracts from it. If the basis of your argument is unquantifiable then you have no argument. It just comes across as 'make belief'. Which brings us back to Walter Mitty….

  45. As long as the owners and CEO are sensible and pragmatic in considering that the manager has achieved his targets then common sense should prevail. Im sure that those targets will be revised for next season and the manager has to meet them. Everyone is entitled to their opinion but I thank the lord that you emotionally charged, trigger happy lot aren’t in charge! We’d be going through managers on a weekly basis! ??

  47. He's an average manager pal he's been good for us so far up to a point and I hope he can rediscover last seasons mentality to drive it forwards a bit however his overall record in football is bang on average and at times you can see why clearly. I like the guy I want him carry on building the club from inside out but after 2 and a half seasons I know what i'm seeing and it has resembled his latter stages at other clubs. Don't get me wrong him being average is no bad thing compared to some of the dross/inexperience and outright clowns these lot have employed and made wealthy but he's facing a real test of his mettle now.

  48. He's wrong in the fact that we failed to win any of the ten games Reed and Travis weren't paired though...and the two we won in the last dozen, they were - and we kept clean sheets ? I'm praying for a eureka moment from him.
