  3. Getting Rhodes, Gestede, Hanley and Marshall back and promotion is sealed ? Funniest thing I've read on here in a while, I must've missed the last time they got us promoted ?

  4. I don't mind City doing well up to now. I can remember them always being in the shadow of United. I remember them being in the second tier several times and even in the third tier. Always the true Manchester club with mainly local supporters. Another few seasons of this, though, and they'll be right up my nose.

  5. I have always rated Bamford. A good footballer who makes the game look easy kidding folk that he's got no pace when he has. I also think his physicality has improved with age. Give him and Jordan a football and there's only one footballer ... and I'm a Jordan fan! He won't come to us, we can't afford him.

  6. He has gotten to double figures twice in his career at this level, 17 goals in 14/15 and 11 goals in 17/18 1 Premier league goal in 30 appearances in between that He is 25 Not a a class operator for me! All hype from when he was a young English (possibly Irish soon) player at Chelsea

  7. It is unfortunate that so many of us did not know the extent of what was going on at the club at the time or the methods adopted to keep people quiet. Ironic as it sounds now, I had always relied on the LT and Radio Lancs!! I have nothing but respect for MCMC 1875 and I was present at one EWMC supporters' meeting, when one individual reported a very disturbing, threatening phone call to his home...The rest I have merely read about in Glenn Mullan's stuff and from posts on this very site. I have no evidence linking our owners to the threatening behaviour, referred to above. What I will say is that very bad things went on before, during and after the disastrous sale. Clearly, secrecy was a prerequisite to enable this bad behaviour to continue, uninterrupted. Threatening behaviour, along with bribery, helped maintain that secrecy. It was all on the owners' watch.

  8. Haha..To be honest, I don't think it has been all that great, since Brad. Since Robinson, though, goalkeeping errors really have cost us a lot of points. Before that, Darren Collier didn't delight, but, at least he only played a few games. John Butcher didn't inspire either.... Generally, we have been blessed with the likes of Sir Roger, Jim Arnold and Gennoe before Jack's money...

  9. The majority of Rovers fans will of been taken to their first game by a family member, who was probably taken to their first game by another family member. To look at this you need to put yourselves in the position of someone who has never been to a match at Ewood or potentially any other sporting event anywhere. Going to your first game, without being taken, isn't as straight forward a process as it could be, granted the Internet probably makes it easier than it was 20-30 years it's easy to find ticket info online and buy tickets. But where would you sit, where would you feel safest with your kids, how much swearing will there be, will the traffic be bad, where will I park, will there be problems with away fans as I go back to my car. All things that once you've been to a couple of games probably don't seem like an issue, but if you never been they are all reasons why you might take the kids to the cinema instead. A simple to use well publicised park and ride that you can pre-book and guarantee a simple and straight forward match day experience has got to help, the first time fan, but it's not going to instantly add thousands on to the average gate. I'd probably go as far as to say it probably wouldn't get that much use on a matchday as there is so much on street parking, so would no doubt be cancelled as a failure.

  10. Here we go again. Handing out contracts to mates who are either not good enough or have gotten too old. Looks like the academy is a pointless thing to have, and we'll probably have no decent transfers as the manager tries to continue to dig for fool's gold.

  13. No mate, he scored 12 in 22 just these last few months . He's scored some crackers, I'd say he is exactly what we need. Bielsa thinks he's ok

  14. If City hadn’t had any serious cash injections and weren’t currently dominating, someone else probably still would be. In many ways, I like it that an unestablished club is sticking to the usual suspects like United, Liverpool and Arsenal..

  15. That crafty 'foul' is very prevalent in the game today but now camera angles can pick it up easily. Refs still usually can't, but it's at such speed they have a difficult task. FREE MGP!

  16. I didn't think he did dive Andy. I watched it several times in slo mo and he accidentally clipped his own heel. The Arsenal player was in real close proximity and my reading was that Pedersen genuinely thought he had been tripped. One thing I'm sure we could agree on though is that Pedersen was a genuine, honest bloke so it seemed out of character.

  17. Brereton hasn't done anything comparable to the dive Bamford pulled off. It was one of the most pathetic things I saw on a football field this season.
    1 point
  18. Quite, imagine if Brereton was prone to the odd pathetic dive. Oh wait...

  19. Tell it to Wikipedia, it's a hassle typing lengthy messages about stats on my phone. First season, Notts Forest, 2 appearances. I never said good, just established, which he is. I'd happily take him over Brereton though.

  20. Yes, Bamford is class at this level. Movement is a step above anything we have

  21. I don't think 1 season is proving yourself, but in fairness it was a good season. Watch now if he declares for Ireland I will be saying he's brilliant ?
    1 point
  22. I think I pretty much agree with everything you put on here, but I think that's a little harsh on Bamford. Before his loan spell at Palace, he'd more than proved himself at Championship level, in terms of goals and his work rate. Admittedly he's gone a bit quiet since then.
    1 point
  23. Ah, no he hadn't. He had played 2 seasons in the Championship over 4 years ago. Since then he bounced around hardly playing in the Premier league. One of the most over rated players in England. I just don't get why some on here always go back to him as an example for a good Championship striker. It makes no sense! He has had 1 very good season and a couple of ok ones.

  24. It was Salgado who I was referring to as well.

  25. I was trying to find out the price earlier and got an article from the Peterborough chairman where he insisted the fee was being misreported in the press. He seemed to be suggesting it was more than reported. The figure in question was 2-3 million rising to 5 with add-ons. He seemed to feel that made them look desperate, which they weren't. So, just guessing, maybe more like 4-5, rising to 7 with add-ons. Personally I think that's a lot for a lad who had one good season in League One (we bought League One's best player for just over 10% of that). That's what well-established Championship strikers can move for (Bamford was about 7?). Of course it's also what total gambits like Brereton can move for, so I can't say we shouldn't have spent it there instead.

  28. Exactly why did Ince decide to get rid of the best goalkeeper we have ever had? Didn't see that coming.Never seen any explanation.

  29. Found these online and thought they where really interesting - a full league review, images below... Shot Dominance The number of shots taken against the number of shots the opposition took Attacking Effectiveness Shot conversion, essentially. Bottom right is good, top left is bad. We come under languidly clinical, essentially didn't get lots of chances but took them. Defence effectiveness Exact opposite of above- top left is good - able to reduce opposition shots take more shots without conceding, bottom right is bad, opposition get lots of opportunity and take them. As predicted, we dont do well here. Expected goals The graph speaks for itself and sums up pretty much everything I thought about the year. Decent attack, poor defence.

  37. I can assure you that there were death threats, I was the targeted when I was digging and revealing some of what was being found. I once got a note saying that if I did not stop poking my nose in that they would warm things up with a little fire, this was a note posted through my door. I reported it to the police and they took it seriously. I know that Glen and others had much worse. The other route that they took was the almost weekly legal threats from IPS Law, which to begin with were worrying but once we established our legal rights they became more amusing annoyance. Things now are much different, not to say that everything is perfect but the focus does seem to be more on the playing side rather than previously when off the field what was going on overshadowed everything on the field. I can never trust Venky's because my default position with them is that there is always the threat of them listening and acting upon that one piece of bad advice from the someone whose only motivation is to make a quick buck which will throw all of the good work out of the window and plunge the club back into a downwards spiral.

  38. Lesson to be learned here is you really shouldn't talk about things that you dont understand. Blackburn Rovers, the club that Jack built.
    1 point
  39. Building from the back is how it's done and a good experienced keeper who's a bit more commanding especially to his centre halves HAS to be followed by another centre defender of similar stature and hopefully a good left back. That's positive building blocks for this team imo otherwise there'd be no point flogging him unless the money is used properly. Let's remember Souness, not a defensive minded manager, started right there with bringing in Brad for what was already a good and popular keeper in Filan. Turned out a no brainer, going way back we were struggling all over the park under Mackay after a few great seasons but the first thing he did when Jack gave him some funds was get in Mimms, Dobson and a big lump up front in Livingstone. I'd suggest that's a good way to go right now. Kenny replaced a good keeper in Mimms with Flowers and Robinson was a solid if not spectacular replacement for Brad. Simply put if you want to get anywhere you just must have a good reliable safe pair of hands in the sticks. Raya himself was an upgrade on Steele so the process is ongoing. Forget all the misty eyed stuff if it was done for the right reasons i'm 100% with it...........as ever though that remains to be seen but we are now not sticking plasters over holes we are in an actual position to upgrade if there is funding. First time that's happened for a long time.

  40. Jeeeez you don’t get top class keepers from your academy by selling them at 24/25. I agree he’s made mistakes but that’s part of the process. For me - if we sell Raya it sends out all the wrong signals and will massively frustrate me in terms of what we are supposedly trying to build.
    1 point
  41. Don't dismiss Brentford. Owners have money and the dinky new stadium at Kew Bridge will more than double their gate receipts and commercial income. Selling Raya is an absolute NO from me. He needs better coaching and above all, better defenders in front of him.

  42. Dislike. The kind of short-termism that saw us meekly surrender to bids for Cairney. Would be gutted tbh. He’s had a rocky patch but at times he’s been unbeatable. And has years and years on his side. Will be playing for a far bigger club than Brentford in a few years time and I’m sure most will agree that strengthening a divisional rival is never a good idea even if you don’t think he’s as good as I do.

  43. You just said on the forum that people had received death threats. I asked if it was reported to the police and bizarrely you replied saying some things aren't for a forum. It's all sounds like a load of shite.

  44. What's sadly laughable is that the released players from Swansea who are deemed not good enough for them, would actually look like a decent summer recruitment for us. Olsson, Fer, Narsaigh, Routledge and Bony. All 5 would probably improve our 18. Crazy league we play in.

  45. He was far from a MOTD player. MGP had the Premier League record for most distance covered in a game for a long long time. His impact, on the surface, seemed to dip when Warnock arrived at LB. However Warnock was in all honestly a liability at full back (watch the DVD Season reviews), yet was able to get away with a lot of it due to the amazing defensive work that both MGP and ironically Mokoena did in covering him. That Welsh bully from Cardiff was (apparently) disgusting and relentless towards MGP the season he was resurrecting his career at Ewood. Didn't help he was also made "fan" scapegoat #1 for about 3 years. MGP was a loyal, outstanding footballer for our football club, and this quote tells you all you need to know... Morten Gamst Pedersen (May, 2011),: "The eleven who are so lucky that they get the honor to represent the proud blue and white shirt with the beautiful red rose will fight as if it was about life. For that is what it is all about, the life of the club in our hearts! Blackburn Rovers are not lucky because they have good players on the team, good players are lucky because they play for Blackburn Rovers. COYB!" Rant over...

  46. I'd be concentrating my efforts on finding players who know the Championship and know how to get out of it. Not enough of them in our ranks. We've done the whole thing about signing younger end lads and hoping they make the step up. For those observing Sheffield United, how many League One players did they sign last summer? They signed experienced pros who knew the level. First port of call is to go through the free agents from Premier League and Championship clubs and see who we like. Sadly we'll be towards the back of that queue because our manager and entire executive staff are spending the next week in India trying to persuade the owners who are losing 15 million a year to back them to get promotion. Then Mowbray goes on holiday. Deservedly so. But unlikely any serious offers can or will be made until he's back in June. Mowbray's stated desire to get his signings done and dusted early won't happen. Mowbray needs to have a system and stick to it and build on it. Too much chopping and changing personnel, formations and approaches last season to have the consistency required for promotion.

  47. Pederson would walk into this team. Really struggling to understand why anyone would dislike him. He always speaks highly of the club and put in some excellent performances. He did tail off towards the end but from start to finish he was a good successful signing and one that I enjoyed watching. Some of his goals where outstanding. When was the last time we saw someone score goals of his quality
    1 point
  48. I think the reason was more around his suitability for the style of play they want to adopt. No questioning his ability to screen, work off the ball and play non penetrating passes...and it doesn’t make the management at Rotherham right either. For my money, Smallwood was in top 3 most effective players we had in league 1. I also don’t think clubs lauding a player and making songs up about them is exclusively based on how good they are. Smallwood exceeded our expectations that year and he embodied the honesty, grit and determination that had been sadly lacking at our club for years. We loved him for this.
