  1. That side is play-off material. The side that Mowbray will pick is bottom half/relegation material. (Square pegs, round holes)

  2. If Lenihan and Tosin are fit this is how I would line up. Get at them early from down the wings.

  3. Has anyone mooted Matty for the u23 job yet? Would be a cracking choice IMO. Did a good job from what I can see at Chorley

  4. Please note that we have a wonderful four-page 2000-word tribute to Kevin Stonehouse in Issue 97 of the fanzine. This is just the kind of richly deserved write-up that the club sadly fails to provide in enough detail to remember past players. It includes words from Mick Rathbone, Terry Gennoe, Mick Speight and other teammates. Issue 97 is available for just £1.50 on Kidder Street before the Boro match. It can also be purchased online as part of a SEASON SUBSCRIPTION HERE or INDIVIDUALLY HERE.

  5. They also had to work 32 hours every day, and come home to their empty bean tin in the gutter and be murdered by their dad in cold blood. If they were lucky.

  6. Honoured to have been given a copy of Matt's autobiography to read before its September release and yep, it's absolutely superb. The full sincere story - answers to all the questions we've ever asked and simply a must-read for all Rovers fans. We've got some extracts from the book in fanzine Issue 97 this weekend in order to whet your appetites! Fanzine subscriptions still available here - five issues for just £9 including P&P! https://roversfanzine.bigcartel.com/product/4-000-holes-full-season-subscription-2019-20?

  9. Perfect then if you have Chapman in front of him. One is still learning about football and tracking back (before he was broken and sent back to Boro last season) and the other may be much more comfortable just defending. Let them meet at the halfway line.

  10. Last time the Clarets tried that one, it was a warm up for the Orient game in 1987. The cones won 1-0.

  11. Whatever your belief on Nyambe it can't sensibly be argued that Bennett is a better right back.

  12. That’s a good side but why people keep leaving Bennett out I don’t know. It’s a recipe for disappointment.

  13. It really does sum up the current snowflake society we live in when there are objections to kids playing three or four times a week. I remember when people played on Saturday, Sunday and midweek depending on the time of year (there probably still are some now). And went to work/school too.

  14. The main problem being, we keep losing.

  15. Well I said on Tuesday I was leaning towards the Mowbray out side of the fence and he had 2 games to change my mind. We somehow won one of them albeit in slightly fortunate circumstances so I'll let him dazzle me tomorrow...... I think scoring a few goals will help, hopefully all them 3 men will start the game tomorrow. Literally no idea what to expect though in all honesty, in fact I feel like that almost every game these days. I know we have players capable of winning but we seem to be either dreadful or surprisingly impressive in spells. Might just be blind optimism but I think we'll win 3-1 tomorrow.

  16. Well he's right we're not standing still. We're going backwards. If it works then that's what matters o we attractive football. Yes a successor to Graham was needed to keep the style going long term and yes the defence needed strengthening but these are improvements on what we had Vs starting again. Another option instead of Graham, and a rock hard CB and LB and I reckon last season's style could've seen us continue to progress. (Oh and a decent keeper coach or if that failed an experienced keeper but hopefully the former would do the trick.) Instead TM has woefully overcomplicated it again.

  17. Bennett is dogshit. Mowbray has drained every ounce of confidence out of Nyambe. Nyambe is still just 21 FFS!!!

  18. Walton Bennet Williams Lenihan Cunningham Travis Johnson Rothwell Dack Downing Graham i think that’s the lineup Mowbray will go with.

  19. One can but dream. I have a large suspicion that to allow Graham to return up front Gallagher will be shunted to the wing.

  20. There is no way Mowbray will ever start Rothwell, Dack and Chapman together in a league game.

  21. Only 2 fit outfield senior players for their game at Tranmere tomorrow. Concerns also being raised by some about the welfare of the kids playing 3 or 4 games a week. Something has to give soon so expect the League to pay players to join them or invent a new transfer window to assist.

  22. I'd love the likes of him, Friedel and Tugay to still be connected to the club.

  23. Why not try a 4312? Graham, brereton and dack up top Johnson, Travis and downing in midfield with Cunningham, lenihan, tosin and nyambe in defence. For me we have to play 2 strikers and also dack as I am sick of wide forwards.

  24. Spot on. Put it towards a signing on fee for Bauer if he was asking for silly wages - i.e. the signing on free mitigates/lowers the wages a bit (And Preston can't be paying more than us.) At least we would be our player too and as you say we'd get either a couple of seasons out of him or a good return on our investment. If we paid a loan fee for Walton that makes that move even more stupid.

  25. The story from the Wigan end of things is that they are paying £10k of his £14k a week. That’s from a source at Wigan that would usually be spot on. just passing it on for what it’s worth

  26. I keep hearing about these. If we are committed to paying substantial 'fees' to borrow those players then that makes our transfer policy even more ludicrous. The only benefit to going down the loan route is that it avoids the need to shell out a substantial transfer fee, if we're still shelling out substantial fees just to borrow those players for 12 months and will have to spend again to replace them next summer then it becomes even more bonkers short termism. I saw someone say that Tosin was costing £1 million+ to borrow from Man City. If that's true then I wonder what the hell we are playing at. I am certain for £1 million+ we could have found a CB of good standard who we could own and build around for 2-3 years.

  27. Because he is on loan this season and has a contract with us till the end of next season. While none of us think he will be back, technically he has no more left the club than has Magloire, and it’s not up to Bennett or even Mowbray to say that he has.

  28. There is a danger that this starts to become like Bowyer and Kean before him (in a slightly different context) in that fans will get angry and react to our continued failure and then nothing will change. At that point, fan apathy will set in. Mowbray has already set his stall out that he has written off August because we are playing teams with top 6 aspirations. It’s such defeatist talk. Lower end teams beat higher end ones all the time in this division. Mowbray may be a positive football man but he’s a very negative football manager.

  32. What a load of old nonsense - of course it wasn’t up to the professional level but believe me it was a school of hard knocks and the Blackburn Sunday league (at the top end of it) was akin to semi professional football in the late 70s and early 80s. Most of the lads we played with and against would be turning out for the likes of Accy Stanley, Great Harwood, Darwen etc on Saturdays. And plenty of ex pros like Metcalfe and Marshall Burke played in it too.

  33. One of the contributing factor to some no longer going. The DE liked to be near the away fans, so the club close the DE to home fans and move away fans to other side of lower tier or top tier simply to appease Caley and his useless mob.

  35. He is a defender, that is constantly overlooked for an inferior player at right back. This must affect his attitude.

  36. Nyambe was really poor against Oldham.

  37. What winds me up his the managers blind spots he has for some of the players ie Bennett made captain and still right back , Smallwood who got the hook on Tuesday against Oldham but he still thinks he can do a job . The forwards being used as wingers , midfielders being used as defenders. Not playing proven players who have done it for the last two season . And todays special Tony decided too play a different way of football this season thats why he's brought new players in . Its the same team set up he played last season he's still playing lads out of position nothing has changed . But his lack of respect for the paying public his freighting where not dummies Tony lad square pegs in round holes doesn't work . And loses this weekend and the knives will be out

  38. Only one in our team that can cross. Also, with Mulgrew gone, I'd say he is useful for set pieces. That said, as DE said above, he would only get in for me above Armstrong - not Rothwell. Ideally, I would also be picking Chapman ahead of him but they are obviously taking it slow with him so that he can build himself up.

  40. Yeah tbf someone posted a Celtic player criticising Mowbray and it was scary seeing how many parallels there are between his failure and Celtic and what is happening at our club, so I can see where you’re coming from. You could also be on to something about the failure of the brereton transfer and subsequent tightening of the purse strings. i find it incredibly frustrating that we are owned by billionaires that are unwilling to spend decent money on our team. Well other than massive fees for underperforming strikers.

  41. If we're ignoring hearsay and conjecture then we can only go by what Mowbray and Waggot have told us - namely that the budget was roughly the same as last summer (circa £10m) and the Raya money was being added to the budget. So with SG's transfer being taken into account that would only be a net spend of £2m against a supposed transfer budget of £10m, leaving £8m. I'm not including wages in that purely because last year's £10m did not include wages either. We also had Mowbray telling us money was available in January and he chose not to spend it. He and Waggott have also always said that the owners are backing them 100% and releasing funds when asked for. So based off those comments we really have no choice but to lay the blame for our obvious squad imbalance at Mowbray's door, irrespective of the suspicions most of us have about how transfers really operate at Ewood.

  49. Remember his debut goal v spurs. Incredible turn and shot. Also that brilliant goal against Bolton at Reebok in our promotion season. 4-1. Feinted to hit the shot then chipped over the keeper who was on his arse. Favourite rovers player who should have had 60 caps much like the likes of Matt le tissier etc
