  1. I contacted Alan Shearer via twitter and he agreed to sign my shirt for me, im over the moon. I’m in Ireland so posted it to the UK with a return envelope and I had it back inside a week. He came across as a really nice guy, even sent me this emoji in a message when I thanked him on twitter for the memories and the goals ?‍♂️ Lol

  2. Some of the comments on here. We are coming to Swansea on the back of 4 wins and at this moment drawing to Swansea away from home. 4 points off 3rd. People need to get a grip.

  4. Well. We didn’t win. You know what that means...

  5. Poor tonight but a good result in the circumstances. Before the game I’d have taken 1-1 away at Swansea on a Wednesday night in December.

  6. Sad news, his teams played entertaining football which made today's version lseem extremely drab in comparison. If memory serves me correctly the only thing preventing us from making a sustained promotion push for the top division in his time was the lack of a prolific goalscorer. The Board of the day refused to back him in a move for Steve Kindon I seem to recall. Two things stick in my mind about Jim. Firstly that famous 3-2 win at Turf Moor Boxing Day 1977. The managers had to walk diagonally across one half of the pitch to get to the dug outs and the reception the bald eagle received from the Rovers fans packed into one half of the Longsight stand as he walked across the pitch was like nothing I'd seen before or since. Secondly, fuelled by the impetuosity of youth I wrote to Jim at one point suggesting players we could possibly sign. I certainly never expected a reply but much to my surprise and delight received a beautifully typed letter on Club notepaper detailing individually why it was not practical to sign the players I'd mentioned. Signed with a flourish from the fountain pen of the man himself. You couldn't imagine a manager even reading such correspondence these days let alone going to such trouble to reply. RIP.

  7. I’ve got to say , despite our recent run of great results ( and a point at Swansea is no disaster) but teams who have their eyes on play offs don’t perform like we did tonight . It’s not a one off -away from home particularly - but can’t keep the ball , wrong options , slow tedious build up and actually looking out on our feet . We also still look vulnerable at the back . we had a good chance tonight to go and win that going a goal up against a fragile team and then again with a one man advantage but ultimately we have simply too many that aren’t up to it . i might have taken a point before the game but the manner in which we achieved it left me disappointed overall and to me we are middle of the road team that will raise hopes by winning a few and then go on to disappoint just when the chance is there for the taking. And in truth I think I and several others made the same comment before the season started .

  9. Is there NObody connected with the club or the Community Trust who can refurbish this bench so that it's a proper commemoration of one of the best players to wear blue and white in the last quarter or the 20th Century? Come on, Venky's; you bought us lock, stock and barrel. If you bought a Premier League club - which we were, before you sacked Big Sam and replaced him with that nonentity whose name I choose not to repeat - you also bought our history. It surely wouldn't break your bank to refurbish this bench commemorating one of our most popular players of the last quarter of the 20th Century.

  11. Glad we didn’t lose to be honest. Keeps the unbeaten run going. Let’s hope we can do Bristol City @ weekend.

  12. Dack is a professional. Nothing to do with Mowbray. It's not like he has a track record of being sent off, why would you take Dack off when he is probably our only player who can make something happen from nothing?

  13. Let's hope we never get 4 players booked in a game. Will be playing with 10 men. Can only imagine the outrage if dack had been taken off. He's a professional. 100% his own fault not TM

  15. A proper football manager. RIP. The next Home game will be a real test of the current regime. If there's: no black armbands on the team's sleeves; no minute's silence - none of this minute's applause malarky - and no proper appreciation in the match programme of Jim and what he did for This Great Club Of Ours in more financially-straightened times before Uncle Jack's era, then it will speak volumes - to this fan at least - about what care-less custodians we have of our traditions.

  16. Harsh on Nyambe thought him and the cb’s were our man of the match contenders. Generous on Armstrong, good assist but often wasteful in good positions. Rothwell was anonymous but wasn’t as bad as some are saying.

  17. Dack always walks the tightrope of a red because he is physical, I think he was close the other red button game, Brentford? I remember he was booked and then had a few niggles. I would’ve took him off for holtby as he wasn’t having the best of games anyway. thought out passing was abysmal tonight, didn’t deserve anything more than a point but not the end of the world. Need to keep up the picking up points though, I think that’s a game we lost last year ala Bristol City , Swansea last year

  18. Good point all being told. It's a tough tough league and we ain't gonna win every game, or indeed play well every game. Picking up points when off the boil helps though. WBA scraped a win at woeful Wigan, Bristol City got beat off Milwall, Fulham off them clowns down the road. One last push on Saturday then a good few days off to recharge the old batteries, its come at a good time really.

  19. Can see a few changes at weekend, Travis looked absolutely knackered too! In fairness if it's round pegs in round holes it's not the end of the world... Johnson for Travis Bell for Downing Bennett for Rothwell Dack for Holtby Gallagher for Graham Freshen it up and go for them from the off.

  22. That is Armstrong in a nutshell. I honestly don’t rate the lad. He gets the goals now & again. He has the pace but my god is he so frustrating and poor at everything else.

  23. In my paper today - " Jim Smith the former Birmingham, Oxford, QPR, Newcastle, Portsmouth and Derby manager, who has died at the age of 79 ". Being fair to them further on in the article it does mention lots about his early career, first as a player then manager at Boston, Colchester and then Rovers. Strange not to include Rovers in the first paragraph though.

  24. Downing is probably the fittest member of the squad, despite being 35. If we play Bell or Bennett at left back in one of these away games then it's like we asking to get beat, not good enough. Gallagher for Graham we might get away with.

  26. We are finnally close it's matxh day! Great like i said before I'm specting a 1-0 for our Rovers match a tie would be good aswell...won't be easy at all they have brill players but i think tje most dangerous thing about them is that they are underestimating us I'm sure that they think that because of ther individual performances and quality we mean "winnable" match for they so Come On You Rovers lets show those bastards that they are tottally wrong!!! I belive on my team i will be supporting and i know you too... I want to see and hear Roves on welsh since mexico so to all the rovers that will follow our team today share everything as you can please pals!!! #Rovers #ImRoversTillIDie #Top10season #TheMexicanRover

  28. I think it is true that we could go 3-0 up in the first 15 minutes and the opposition have 9 men for most of the game yet still some people would class a 3-3 draw as a good result away from home. To begin with, without wanting to come across as Mr Negative again, I would have shook hands on a point had that been offered to me at 7:30pm. And I don't think a point was a bad result in the end given our performance late on in the game. Mowbray will be delighted with a draw. It was a game we were getting well beaten in last season so I suppose that points to some progress, and I said after the Derby win I'd be very satisfied to get through these two away games unbeaten and get back to Ewood for the next couple of decent looking fixtures. Now to the game itself. Same old traits of our side away from home rear their ugly head again. Bright positive start and rewarded with a goal early doors. We've seen that happen quite a lot over the last couple of seasons where we are quick out of the blocks and catch teams out early. From that point on you hope/expect to see a well drilled outfit manage the game, keep pressure down, deal with pressure well when it builds. I watched some of the Millwall game at Bristol last night and that is what they did well after going ahead early. Alas we failed to do that, we were wasteful with the ball, made too many poor passes, and allowed them to respond. Their spell of pressure prior to their goal was caused by a senseless throw in on the half way line. Rather than take the sensible route we attempt a ball across the middle of the pitch to begin our pass around the back routine only it was intercepted and they then won corners which they scored from. Having let them back in so quickly i thought we did ok the remainder of the first half. Whilst we looked fragile when they attacked and gave the ball away countless times when trying to play out from the back we caused them a few problems. Second half starts reasonably well. Then we hit the jackpot when their player loses his rag and gets sent off. Nearly 40 minutes left in the game, home fans on their backs, ideal. Great opportunity to seize control of the game, plenty of time for a winner or at least to take control and bombard their goal in search of a winner. Unfortunately, as with Sheffield United away last year, we completely and utterly failed to take any advantage whatsoever from that. We didn't appear to change our approach in the slightest, we didn't appear to up the tempo, make changes to expose their numerical disadvantage. We just carted on as we were before hoping something would happen. As with Sheffield United away last year we then shortly afterwards commit the cardinal sin of shooting ourselves in the foot and giving the referee the perfect opportunity to even things up and get the home fans back on side and give them a shot in the arm. Criminal. Needless. Stupid. We have a knack of squandering golden opportunities when they are presented to us. A team in control doesn't do that. After that I felt we were fortunate to get away with a point, although we could have committed smash and grab in the last minute, we didn't deserve to win the game. Their keeper has had barely anything to do in the 2nd half. The substitutions seemed to make us weaker and we completely lost our way, resorting to sitting back hoping to see the game out for a point. So all in all, not a bad result, but not exactly one to strike fear through the division. Swansea away is not Mission:Impossible as the likes of Millwall have shown recently and when presented with opportunities like we have had tonight you simply have to take full advantage of them if you are going to be up there come the end of the season.

  29. Reality bites.. So 5 wins in 7 isn’t good enough? 1 draw and suddenly we’re bottom half material. Lucky there’s no overreacting on here,

  30. I wouldn't say it was inevitable. He has no track record of being sent off, because he is on a yellow we should replace our best/most creative player? You cant pin this on Tony.

  41. A bit difficult to squeeze an extra 10,000 into a building site when we were first in the Premier League. We were averaging over 25,000 when we came 6th and went six seasons without a gate under 20,000 in the league. I think we have had seven 30,000+ gates in the new Ewood until the police and security got nosebleeds about it.

  42. Those were the days when fans could really get to a player. He spent half the game flicking V’s to the Riverside then finally went berserk when Bailey dived for a penalty. Back to Smith, has any other manager signed three such fans favourites as Garner, Noel and Waggy, all for pennies? Best to forget about Radford and Svarc though.

  43. Really sad news. His Rovers team were so exciting to watch with the overlapping full backs in Bailey and Hird. It was a great time to be a Rovers fan mainly due to Jim's excellent management. Whilst refereeing I came across him several times and he always spoke highly of Rovers and his time here. RIP Jim.
