  1. The best comment I ever saw about Wigan was that they are "Accrington Stanley on steroids". No idea if it was someone on here who said it or I read it on twitter etc but it has stuck with me ever since ?

  2. It has to be Dunny's versus the Dingles in the 97th minute at Ewood surely?

  3. I hate the fact we have such a wait for this. I also hate Wigan and Cook. Morsey is a nob too. At least Powell is off warming the Stoke bench. It would be sweet, sweet revenge if we beat them ,plunge them into the relegation zone and get Cook sacked. Remember the shite he was spouting in league 1 about Mowbray being arrogant or something like that, when he clearly was the opposite, to a fault at times. Hate that guy. I would love it if he hammered them. Alas it will probably be a battle and close enough. I would nearly favour Johnson with Travis, but I sense a potential red card there. It's good now that we have the option of 4-4-2. Keep them guessing. I hope Dack and Holtby both start, but that would probably have to be at the expense of Rothwell. Maybe Downing with them behind the striker. Armstrong and Rothwell are better off the bench imo. I doubt they would agree though. Did I mention I hate Wigan and specifically Cook?

  4. In recent years I have confidently stated the following as facts on this message board. 1. Following Friedel scoring from a corner, Charlton broke up to our end direct from the kick off before Paolo DiCanio curled an absolute peach into the top corner before celebrating in front of our fans (I was in the stand behind the goal). It was a good goal, but Claus Jensen scored it - I'm not even sure DiCanio played for charlton at the time... 2. Chris Samba made his debut vs. Blythe Spartans in the cup. (It was Carlos Villanueva, though as many on the board took pains to point out it is understandable that I might confuse the two!) The keen eyed amongst you might notice that I have edited this post. That's because I also managed to convince myself momentarily that it was Mauro Formica, not C.V. To be fair he is also a dead ringer for big Chris.

  5. Me too. Hate Wigan, Cook and Morsy. I love Rothwell but he’s skating on thin ice at the moment in terms of hanging onto his place in the first XI. Especially with a quality player like Holtby behind him.

  6. It’s been interesting seeing how Ryan has developed. When I first saw him two years ago, he couldn’t wait to give the ball to just about anyone, never took responsibility. Then last season he seemed more confident, would surge past a player or two, but mostly on or near the halfway line, the downside of that being rapid counter-attacks when he lost the ball. The latest reincarnation seems quite different: he is playing much higher up the pitch and his surges are genuinely hurting the opposition. A couple of times on Saturday he was one-on-one and put in the first dangerous crosses I’ve ever seen from him. Maybe, just maybe, someone has been coaching him on just this during his absence from the team, because I don’t believe young defenders can decide for themselves to be 30 yards higher up the pitch when we have the ball.

  8. No, it's actually very relevant. Due to the reasons you point out If we won League 1 and were now in Wigans position, i'm sure it would be long, long forgotten and certainly irrelevant.

  9. I always struggle to know how to feel about this fixture On the one hand, they are a glorified non-league club who have only had any meaningful success in their history because of the investment of a wealthy Blackburn Rovers fan, and who are at the very least behind Burnley, Preston, Bolton, Blackpool, Accy, all of Burnley's youth & women's teams and probably Chorley as Lancashire rivals. I don't ever want to lower ourselves to see this as a big game. At the same time, I come from Wigan and there's no getting away from the fact that we've had a few results against them over the last 10 years or which have been downright embarrassing. That and their manager is an absolute weapon. Hope we absolutely pump them.

  10. Player Archive has been updated with all the players whose surname started with C. Upload has taken a bit longer than expected but I am hoping to make some good progress over the next month.

  12. For what it's worth, and my opinion isn't worth much but I have really liked Nyambes game.last.few.games. He looks like he is becoming a threat going forward now, better defending. Just looks better all round. Hope he keeps up this progress we could have a proper player here.

  13. Mate, you’re arguing about this in December 2019 whilst we stand a point off the top 6 and 2pts off third and they’re struggling week in week out to stay in the league. After we finished above them last season. This is the very epitome of nit picking and tbh that’s being kind to you. Crap argument, just let it go ?

  14. Could we also do a shower of shit for the decade? Perhaps 2 categories - cnuts 11 and just bloody useless 11?

  15. He's a nob and his comments were completely necessary. Mowbary was 100% right to rubbish it. We have finished ahead of them every season since we both got back to the Championship. That's really all that matters. I don't watch Rugby league and I never said that he doesn't

  20. I have not seen Buckley at any level other than Championship. I'd say he has had two decent appearances, one ok and one stinker. He should not be written off for the stinker.

  22. I would say with the team fully rested, and playing a poor Wigan side at home, Tony will pick : Graham over Gally Downing over Bell Holtby over Rothwell Armstrong over Bennett All the above are fair enough. Only thing that concerns me is he may decide to drop Travis and play Johnson and Evans together as they both recently had great games. That would be a big mistake as Travis is crucial for his energy. -------------------------Walton Nyambe----Lenihan---Tosin---Downing -----------------Travis-------Evans ------Armstrong-----Dack-----Holtby ------------------------Graham

  24. Correct. So probably upwards of decent as oppose to average? ?? Either way, one decent game does not give him the right to move in front of Downing who’s been class all season.

  25. Trouble with picking up some good results is that it's possible to go a bit too far and see improvement in everything, but Nyambe's ball control has looked consistently better since his return to the side. Could just be a result of playing with better players, but long may it continue. Now he has his shirt back, the next thing for Nyambe has to be to keep it by staying fit. Promising that he has just managed a 3 game week without an injury, should he keep that up then he should keep getting better.

  27. Player(s) of the decade for me have been the people behind the scenes at Ewood who stayed with the club and have done their best to keep a semblance of normality during Venky’s reign. They have done a lot more for the club than anyone on the pitch. I suspect the only player we will be talking about in 40-years time a la the Jim Smith thread will be Dack, and only in the same terms as Andy Crawford. Although personally, I’ll be delighted to be talking about anyone in 40-years time.

  28. The glories of Boxing Day 77 had dimmed my memory as to how unexceptional the first two years of Bald Eagle’s reign actually were. We were in danger of going straight back down until a couple of unlikely away wins late in the season. Still, in those days we didn’t rip up our season tickets every time we dropped a few points.

  29. Not much to choose between a few of the names mentioned, but I'd go for Rhodes because of his character and how important he was in our darkest period. That team of 2012/13 must have been the most dislikeable in our recent history with the odd exception like Dunn & MGP. Having our one shining light being so humble and genuinely pleased to be at Blackburn Rovers really was like night and day with the likes of Murphy, Etuhu, Best and other hangers on who I've done my best to forget. His goal record throughout his time here was obviously exceptional, but for that first year his finishing was genuinely as good as anyone in the country. Absolutely flying, half a sniff and you were basically certain it was in the back of the net. Started missing a few as time went on, lost a bit of his edge, but for a spell it really felt as though he was the bit left of our club that was still big time. Says something about him that I was genuinely made up that he scored a hat-trick for another time at the weekend. Hard to think of any other former player that I would react like that to.

  34. While I respect your opinion I don’t give a fuck what he was laughing at, we had just lost 7-1 against Man United. As for Givet - did he not also go on strike or something similar? I have vague recollections of some sort of Gallic strop anyway (or maybe that’s another Mandela Effect memory on my part?)

  35. Haha, took me a good few minutes to see what you had amended. Yes, of course it's the knockout stages which I look forward too.

  36. After the 7-1 defeat at Old Trafford under Allardyce he is quoted as saying "After the game, we were all laughing". I don't remember finding too much to laugh about that day and it taints his status a bit in my eyes to be honest.

  37. Players are people some will not develop physically until their early 20's, take harry winks for example. Some just never develop physically. Buckley I would keep around Brockhall and monitor his physical progress and let him play under 23 games to get football. Rankin-Costello should replace him on the bench, he ready to play league football now and his versatility makes him easier to use of the bench. Butterworth should go out on loan to league 1 or 2 and get game time as there are two many players in front of him.

  38. Indeed and my fear is that it might lead Mowbray to muddle up the selection. I would go back to the team that won 4 on the bounce.

  39. I can see this being our biggest win of the season and how sweet it will be. Hate their manager, hate their grubby fans, they are a nothing club hanging on to the memory of 1 FA Cup success. If we get at them early I reckon it'll be a 3 or 4 nil victory. Would love it to be our result that puts the nail in that prick Cook's coffin. Come on Tony, be more ruthless than you've ever been and inspire the boys to a night to remember.

  40. What’s this ‘Oh this is where history repeats itself, under the lights?’ The majority of this team performed under the camera’s during the league 1 campaign. Not to mention this is a new season and a completely different mentality. The past two games we would have lost, quite heavily. Looking forward to this game and can see us winning comfortably. Things are starting to click into place as well as the whole squad playing a part. Strengthen in Jan and who knows where we’ll end up come the end of the season.

  42. My opinion is that he should go further down the leagues because he can prove without harming us that he can impact games in spite of his frail stature. At this time, him playing for us causes us more problems than our opponents.

  43. Holtby hasn’t got Rothwell’s pace but his quality effects games much more often. Personally, I think Rothwell is better coming on for the last 20 mins if we want to counter or disrupt the flow of our opponents. He’d get one more chance for me and then I’d be looking to give Holtby a decent run. Downing and Holtby on the left would provide some real quality.

  46. I was at Ewood on Friday buying extra tickets for the BBE. We wanted undercover NO2/3 for both games. For Wigan it was a single and I got middle of NO3. For Birmingham, two together, all that was available was NO5. If you look online it's the same right across the BBE with only the front 6/7 rows showing other than singles, the exception being NO5 outer. The lady selling me my tickets said, without me asking, Birmingham is a very popular game. If you like at the BBE for Wigan it's a similar situation. I've no idea what attendance this will translate to but suggest the gate may not be as gloomy as some predict. I don't have time to count individual seats, I'll leave that to someone else.

  47. Travelling from the Midlands each day prior to training isn't ideal. I've travelled down there every day for work for weeks at a time, 2 hours plus in traffic, and it took me 10 minutes just to unwind getting out of the van. You start to hate the journey.

  48. You gotta quit it with this patronising, superfan claptrap everytime we get a good result. It's not endearing and only creates discord.
