  1. One recurring theme about our best performances this season is that we have had a balanced team with two banks of four and plenty of movement from the front two who are constantly looking to get in behind. I really hope Mowbray keeps the current shape and tactics irrespective of who we play. There has been a fluidity about our play and the movement allows us to press a little higher. There has been a simplicity to our best performances and no over complications.

  2. Dare to dream fellas! Now THAT was one of the best away days I've ever been on despite the stinking weather. Such a solid performance and who better to judge us than opposition fans who I quote after the game were saying "by far the best team we've had at the valley, you will go up". Literally cannot fault anyone, seeing the main man sat with us just completed the day too

  3. Yeah I get that. I've met many players over the years though but some are full of shite and some aren't, at least seemingly, genuine, which is what Bradley seemed to be. Saturday afternoon, absolutely horrible weather and he still traps up to watch us, that to me is a great sign.

  4. Won't let me upload the pic for some reason, maybe cos I always get told off by the mods ? But mr Dack was sat in the away end with us normal (ish) folks and was an absolute gent. Spoke so highly of us as said "not a chance" he would leave any time soon

  5. This new argument about Rovers doing well currently "BECAUSE WE HAVE INJURIES" is absolutely comical. If ever there was proof required that no matter what happens there will be pelters thrown at Mowbray look no further. If I remember when we went on our 6 out of 7 winning run (have I got that run right?) we were told: "Mowbray has finally listened to the fans", essentially because he played Rothwell. Then when that run continued it was luck, we weren't performing and we were winning "in spite of Mowbray's tactical cluelessness". Now we are still on a good run it's because of the injuries and Mowbray's hand being forced. We were winning whilst Gallagher played out wide and we are winning since he's been injured. I'm in absolute agreement that we need a proper set of wingers to allow Gallagher to go more centrally but it hasn't happened yet. However, here we are, with all our squads deficiencies sitting close to the play offs and having a decent season. There are a few posters on here that need to remember it can't be both ways; if Mowbray is at fault for the bad, he is at fault for the good too. You can't have it both ways. Mowbray has had untold amount of criticism on here for his signings, press conferences, mannerisms, ability to keep a dressing room etc etc but them same people are mysteriously missing as soon as there's reason to give credit or, in the more frustrating cases, go into absolute overdrive trying to talk down any praise. "We are were we are in spite of Mowbray" is a dumb thing to say. Sorry if that offends. If that is the case then all of the bad runs we have been on is also not the fault of Mowbray's. He picks the team, he picks the tactics and he is judged on results.

  6. Of course we do. Any hardcore fan that would rather see nearly 20,000 empty seats just so they can take some weird moral high ground is of a totally different mindset than me...

  7. In my view, every fan needs to forget the issues of the past for now & just get behind TM & the players. That doesn't mean don't objectively criticise his decision-making going forwards, but let's not colour it with prejudices from the past. No major changes will happen now & we wee with the willy we've got, as Souey so eloquently put. The end of the season will be the time to drill into the detail of where we succeeded and failed & how we can learn from that. However we've got here, whether people think it's because of TM or in spite of him, this represents our best chance of the playoffs in years and I'm pretty sure everyone on here would have taken this position back in the summer. It's a short, 13 game season from hereon in So let's embrace it, embrace each other (virtually, of course!), get down in force to watch this team home & away where possible and be as one to help do our bit as fans to give this tight knit squad the added confidence to go on & achieve something that would be fantastic for our great club that's suffered so much adversity this last decade. Tubthumping over!!

  8. Its very harsh to suggest that it is a blessing that he got injured. The game v Wigan followed a run of 16 points from 6 games in which he had been critical and contributed 4 goals. Ultimately, a lot of other things came together which have continued in his absence, the centre back partnership, Nyambe back in the team and thriving, Downing stepping his performances up, Armstrong playing a more central role etc. Dack firing in goals with regularity on top of that would have only improved us further. He has 24 goals and 8 assists in 1 and a half seasons so surely your expectations were very high indeed.

  9. Yes the playoffs are a guarantee of nothing as the 80s testify. But it would be a sign of a club with aspirations again and after a near decade of treading water, its potential to galvanise the club shouldn’t be overlooked. Keeping hold our best talent, selling season tickets and sponsorships etc all becomes easier.

  10. Samuel was never going to be the next Benni McCarthy but he could develop into the next Jason Roberts. Nothing wrong with that at this level. He has the physical attributes, size, strength and pace but in the past I thought his attitude left a bit to be desired. He seemed to get discouraged easily. Maybe the serious injury has focused his mind on what life could be like out of the game.

  11. I think you should be. We’ve a player there. Sure, the £10m quote might be a little previous, but the guys got something about him. A bit of class.

  12. I have found it a little distateful to see so many people rather than themselves concentrating on the win yesterday smugly going round taking the moral high ground trying to dig people out for what they have said in the past. The manager has specifically been criticised for very tangible and fair reasons, the majority of the money being spent on failures etc and very fairly, these criticisms remain. Of course you will always get exceptions on both sides of people sticking to their guns unfairly but in the main even those perceived to have been quite negative have given the manager some praise yesterday and prior. Sorry to single you out @Bbrovers2288 but I felt you was very harsh after the win midweek with your criticism but you followed it up with plenty of praise yesterday rather than sticking to your guns so fair play to you. Ultimately, our aim is the top 6 and as of yet we have not at any point reached that so I suspect it is a little premature for smugness. Of course there are plenty of mitigating circumstances and progress is not measured solely on finishing in there or not. For what its worth, I have been critical at times of Mowbray this season, questioning his job several times. I have been impressed and very much have seen a plan coming to fruition in the last dozen or so games, we have dealt with injury misfortune and whilst of course I am not totally 100% convinced by everything he does, which wouldnt be healthy, we are picking up results. But i find it just as strange that peoples first instinct is to gloat and take the higher ground just as much as it puzzles me to see people unexcited even when we win.

  13. Huge plus for me. Dominic Samuel is a far better footballer than I ever remembered him to be.

  14. Not sure what a reasonable person would find objectionable about my post. I feel a bit sorry for him really. Yes, he will disagree with things, that’s what the board is all about, but you have to be a special kind of bitter and pathetic to screenshot posts for the amusement of about four mates on Twitter.

  15. Not sure that's true actually. Who would we put in that category? Smallwood's not had a look in all season. Mulgrew the same. Williams has barely played all year. I have criticised Evans plenty, but this season he has thoroughly deserved his spot. Like others, I would've preferred to see Nyambe replace Bennett earlier than he did, but I think the Mowbray plays his mates idea has always been a bit of a myth to be honest.

  17. All part of a stripped back operation, I’m afraid. Up to about 2016 we had a radio station and an in house TV station. So pre-game there was a variety to what you saw/heard (though Radio Rovers did decline in quality over the years). Now you have Neil Yardley on the pitch reading the teams out, then he’s charging up to the gantry for the first half ifollow commentary, then he’s on the pitch at half time doing the half time raffles, then he’s back to the gantry for the second half. Add it to a shut town centre club shop, a shut Blues Bar, a filthy ground, crap disabled facilities, shoddy programme, piss poor catering that can’t even compare to Accy Stanley’s offering and all the rest of it. It’s a skeleton operation, but remember, they ‘never refuse to sign a cheque’.

  18. Floating fans don’t ‘need’ to do anything. The hardcore 12,000 are already there. The rest will come if they fancy it. 8th in the second division isn’t going to get that many more than usual forking out nearly £30 for a Jack Walker ticket or a mini season ticket (the Big 6). Yes, that’s hard for fans like me and you to understand because we are passionate fans that wouldn’t dream of not being there, ‘floating fans’ are just that and don’t have the same motivation to be there every week. Even in 2001 when we had a bigger core support than now, the club still offered two separate games for £5 in the promotion run in (Huddersfield and Sheff United).

  19. His best performance for us I feel. I've been a bit sceptical and wondered what the fuss is about him, my dad watches the U23 games and raves about him. Yesterday I kinda got it. He hasn't been brilliant but you get that with young lads and we should most certainly persevere.

  20. Reluctant? Williams played due to injuries. Elliott i agree should never of been right back. Admire your ambition, but realistically where Mowbray took us from league one to feel hard we should be top 2 other Leeds and WBA is off the mark. Whats with this anti Mowbray agenda? Clearly building a good side that’s playing well with limited resources. Unless there’s some amazing manager out there you know that’s gonna take over this team and get us over the line then I think you should abort Mowbray out and get behind our club.

  21. Fair enough. We shall see my man. I’ll not lie, I had massive doubts about TM. And I still have. BUT... You just never know! He’s a good guy, and sometimes the good guys get what they deserve.

  23. Just sat at Euston basking in the glory of a great performance and win. Lots of top performances today but Buckley was terrific for me. Walton not far behind and then probably nine more just behind. Also well done to Mowbray who got his tactics spot on. I have been critical of him many time but in recent games he has got it right.

  24. They don't. The problem is that, watching at Ewood, you struggle to actually see what Gallagher does when he is out wide that any half-decent wide player wouldn't do. He doesn't get crosses in, he doesn't beat a man, he doesn't bring people into play with his height, he doesn't particularly excel tracking back and he certainly isn't offering more of a goal threat. What he does do is work reasonably hard, which should be a requisite for any footballer (but isn't unfortunately). He also gives us some height when defending corners and set pieces. Whilst we are winning games it isn't an issue. However you never come off the ground saying Gallagher played very well. He appears to just 'do a job' out wide. Nothing wrong with that, but it is one of the first areas you would look to improve in a transfer window. Yet we didn't.

  25. In fact, fuck it, in light of The Bores comments about facts I decided I'd do a little research this evening. We are talking about "balance of the team", or what that phrase basically means, are we any good with Gallagher on the wing? I'll have to add a caveat in that maybe google has the line ups / formation wrong however all of this info was taken from google: Results with Sam Gallagher starting up front: Won - 2 Drawn - 2 Lost - 7 Results with Sam Gallagher starting on the wing: Won - 6 Drawn - 4 Lost - 2 There are 10 games unaccounted in which he either did not play or did not start. Of the games he did not play we: Won - 3 Lost - 1 Of the games he came on as a sub we: Won - 3 Drawn - 2 Lost - 1 So, by collating the data I get it as we win more than we lose when Gallagher plays; we win more than we lose when he's on the wing; we win more times when he starts on the wing than when he starts up front; Gallagher is an effective substitution in order to not lose a game. If we are talking about balance of the team then one would have to assume that more wins = a more balanced team. Do we lose balance by starting SG on the wing? Not according to the results. Do the results trend towards Gallagher being more effective out wide right than up front? Yes. Of particular interest is that I don't get Gallagher down as playing up front since the Leeds game. Since then we've only lost 2 games in which he's started. Is Sam Gallagher a terrible failure of a signing? No. Are fans ignoring the 'facts' and only patrolling these boards with 'glib ad hominem quips'? Yes but it isn't those that try and defend Mowbray or Gallagher. Note: I value any fact checking you may want to do. I did this in approx. 15 mins by looking at line ups / results and putting it together. I may have errors- point them out to me and I will change the results accordingly. Note: Just noticed original post only accounted for 26 games. I have updated to suit all 33 games now. Stats have increased in favour of SG being on the wing.

  26. There seems to be an attitude around the place that increasing crowds is simply a question of price and that by putting a few offers on from time to time the club has done all it possibly can. There's another aspect to it all. You have to encourage people to come and come back. Make it cheaper or easier to get to Ewood and get away afterwards. Put buses on to areas where large portions of our support live like Preston do. Charlton have club run buses all over Kent and Sussex where many of their fans live. We do nothing. Inside the ground - make Ewood a better place to be. Improve the atmosphere by developing a singing section. Generate more of an atmosphere by using music and the big screen better. The atmosphere is so flat and dull it is untrue. Go to Bristol City they have a carnival like range of stalls, bars, music etc. around their ground pre and post match with all sorts for families and kids. People who come for a one off match are unlikely to go home with pulses racing either with the football served or the Ewood experience. Unfortunately the way of it seems to be bare minimum expense which directly equates to bare minimum effort, because all the above require imagination or expense to get up and running.

  27. Yet he was hilariously star struck in his posts after he got to meet staff at the consultation meeting... ?

  28. There's a generation of Rovers fans under 40 years of age who probably don't appreciate that the play offs can be a dark, dark place.

  29. Not sure Benno would agree with you, 9 first teamers injured and he’s still a bench player.

  30. Last season could you say the same with all the player you mentioned? Even though it was clear that Mulgrew legs had gone last season he started this season. Williams only lost his place through injury but has played this season. Smallwood was used as an example of how to play midfield last season for Travis and Harrison to follow. There was always a Champonship player in Evans but it took Smallwood's silly sending off to give him a decent partner in Travis to play alongside him. Mowbray's loyalty to players is no myth. Bobby Saxton also suffered the same.

  31. Maybe when Dack was playing other players were looking for something special from him to turn a game. Now he's missing possibly more of them are taking responsibility.

  32. Can I ask why my posts were deleted? I was responding to a poster who said we are doing well in spite of Mowbray There was another where I responded to two posters who said that Mowbray doesn't want to get promoted A response would be great, because I haven't received any reason why. Seems like biased and one sided censorship to me. Very unnecessary.

  33. Was too knackered to post when I got back last night but here's some thoughts, moans first : Nice ground in general if a little hard to reach! The exception being the away stand. No hot water in the toilets, kiosk out in the rain (decent pie though). No standing allowed on the (sort of) concourse. Straight to your seats if you don't want to get wet (1 hour+ to go before kick-off). Needs re-building to enter the 2000s. To the knuckle-dragging mouth-breather on the coach: We don't care about your opinion on hobknobs or the likelihood of making the club or more beer or how you can't pronounce foreign names. We just want to relax in peace and get home. Talk to your friends normally or SHUT THE **** UP!!! "Better to remain silent and be thought a fool than to speak out and remove all doubt." Suppose that goes for my moaning too... Those gripes aside, the football was excellent. Truly excellent. Charlton fans all seem to agree we outclassed them easily. They started very well but, after 10 minutes, we were the better team by miles. Walton did pull off blinders out of nowhere but I stress OUT OF NOWHERE. We could easily have scored more. Midfield bossed it. Samuel terrorised them; a superb lone-striker performance. It wouldn't be us if there weren't a few little negatives! Bell keeps kicking it out of play when he means to kick it inside. Brereton looked willing and has definitely improved but still looks like he can't control the ball (cutting into the box but then out for a goal kick rather than squaring it being a glaring example). A point at Brentford would do us very nicely. A loss and the gap widens again with less time left. Come on!

  34. Sounds great Joe, but I honestly couldn’t give a feck about playing Burnley. We’ve become as obsessed with them as they always were with us pre the Venky wrecking ball.

  36. I’m not sure mate, Rothwell is very talented but at times can be an enigma. I think us getting the 6/7 more wins to get us into that top 6 will depend on whether we can keep the back 5 plus Trav, Arma and Downing fit. The defensive improvement from the signings of Tosin, Walton and briefly Cunningham as well as the progress of Nyambe who has improved dramatically since last season is giving us the platform. Meanwhile our pattern of play appears to be working in forward areas. Regardless of who is picked.

  38. We played brighton towards end of season at home and we surrendered the lead twice against them, with brighton equalising in the 90th minute,, after it looked like wed won it with a late penalty, if wed have won we would have finished above them and wed have finished in the top 6, as they were 6th place. We also conceded a 95th min equaliser to sheff weds 2 weeks later after leading 3-1. We should have been top 6.

  39. What a barnstormer for Rovers, dug deep and found the bit of magic to give us all 3 points. The team is just tinkering by grinding out results of late. This had banana skin written all over it, and TM and his boys sidestepped it. Kudos. Review and more.

  40. It's no exaggeration to say his save at the end was world class. Raya who is applauded for his shot stopping wouldn't have had the reach. I would say Waltons main weakness now is shots which are close to him. Especially low down. See mitrovic's goal. Personally I'm swaying very much into the yea camp in terms of signing him. Even his biggest critics can clearly see he is showing real signs of improvement.

  41. I would say he has been a liability more often than an asset but he either tends to be really impressive, the last 2 games, the opening day, Bristol City away and maybe 1 or 2 more. A lot of the time he has been really poor on the ball, constantly giving it away, albeit he is asked to receive the ball off the back 4 and he cannot play on the half turn like that. Its just frustrating because he certainly has the track record of a top 6 Championship midfielder but needs to be like he was today most weeks.

  42. Even more amazing, to me at least, is that today’s starting 11 cost in the region of a paltry £2.3 million: 4 homegrown, 2 loans, 2 frees, 2 players signed in League 1, and a Newcastle reserve.

  43. Fascinating. Glad you enjoyed it so much. Any chance you and Chaddy could get a room or a divorce?

  44. What are you even talking about man? This topic is about signing Walton, not the manager. Besides, he's never 'admitted he's clueless' anyway so that's a blatant lie. Give it a rest.

  45. I’ve had a good look and I can’t see a response to this very reasonable question. Some folk are determined to ignore the evidence in front of them and just slate other fans. They don’t even provide a counter opinion to the point being made, just glib ad hominem quips.

  46. Excellent win yesterday and what a great day all round ,met up with some old freinds even spoke to Lyle Taylor, told me to expect some banter with the away fans if he scored ,luckily he didn't ...Great to see Dacky with the away fans ...On the game as a few have pointed out the balance of the team was the key yesterday looked good and Dom Sam is looking a lot stronger when rolling is man off the shoulder ,he does lack a bit of composure at times when coming in on goal but that will come with confidence also nice to see the Rovers fans giving him a good send off when subbed fully deserved as well...Also good to see Tony show a bit of emotion with the away fans not seen him do it for a while ...

  47. That bottom paragraph is a classic. It’s the one sentence that drives me insane. No business owner should ever get credit for not refusing to sign a cheque, it’s their responsibility. They are putting a service on for us and it should be worthy of the entry fee. Currently it isn’t. So all of this not refusing to sign off cheques is shite - you can fix the ground, get decent pies in and put on a decent show without worrying about FFP.

  48. Tosin is somebody I could see going on loan to say a Southampton next season, and being bought by them for like £20m a year later, only for City to pay double that a couple of years after that to sign him back if he impresses. No chance is Walton is playing in the top flight next season, so fee depending that could be doable.
