  3. The thing is we are both the same in that we are big football fans and obviously want it back as soon as it is possible. The problem is you seem to be unable to see past that desire in terms of using any flawed and one sided logic to support that desire. For example thousands of tests for non key workers playing football you staunchly defend because it helps to get back football, whereas one solitary test for another non key worker who you despise outrages you. You use all of the countries who have or plan to restart their leagues as a precedent to support your desperation to get football back on in this country and remain blissfully ignorant to those countries that have null and voided their season. You also have repeatedly displayed a lack of empathy and ability to understand others and their different opinions so it is unsurprising that you assume and state unequivocally that viewing figures would go up. You are IMO in denial as to how diluted an alternative behind closed doors football is. For example, if Rovers managed to launch a genuine unlikely play off push do you think your feeling would be anything similar to if it happened in normal times in front of fans? I know it wouldnt to me and indeed the normal elation would probably be replaced by a mixture of detachment and even irritation that when a rare season of success comes about, we can not enjoy it at the time and even the reward of playing in a higher league would be behind closed doors too. Take Liverpool, they are desperate I am sure to clinch the title but even if and when they do, it will be anticlimatic and the expected feeling of joy and elation will be almost totally removed. I am not claiming that I am so rigid in my opinion that I would cut my nose off to spite my face and refuse to watch out of principle. I think that perhaps for flawed financial reasons that the current mindset is to get football back in any form as soon as possible. I personally think the mindset should be to play as little sanitised, half arsed behind closed doors football as possible. But ultimately months into a lockdown, I will still watch it passively as something to do even if it is not with the usual strong passion and interest.

  4. If Rovers have had no positive tests so far I don't see a problem with them announcing the fact. I'm sure you'd have been absolutely cock a hoop if we'd announced 2 or 3 positive tests as you'd be citing it as evidence it was too early for football to restart. If you meant it's surprising we didn't have any positive tests, again this isn't that surprising as only 0.8% tested positive in the Premier League round of tests so only a handful of Clubs will record any positive tests. As regards the Bundesliga, it seems to have gone relatively well, the standard has been good and to my mind there is no more loss of tension or feeling of importance or feeling that the proceedings are a training exercise or exhibition match than if there was a crowd. The only downside from watching in this Country is that most people don't have an emotional attachment in either side. You are against the reintroduction of football so therefore you are opposed to playing behind closed doors on principle and are now trying to decry its relevance. There's no doubt it isn't quite as good as the normal product but such is the apparent resistance to getting back to normal in general I fear we're going to have to get used to football behind closed doors for quite some time to come.

  7. If the PL didn’t buy PSC stock do you think it would be thrown away? I find it saddening that some organisations are going out of their way to put money ahead of people. I just can’t understand why ordinary folk condone such despicable behaviour just because they like football.

  8. Absolutely. Rochina gets referred to derisively here as a "Carlos Kickaball" but there's no doubt the guy had talent. When he had a run in the Championship. his output was decent, and teams would double-mark him, freeing up space for other players. Think he suffered from playing under too many conservative managers.

  10. From what I have read all Premier League games including 3pm kick offs will be TV or YouTube. Championship games will be on Sky Sports or Ifollow

  11. Sadly I think you are correct that it could be a while. It will be interesting to see what happens with coverage. For the whole TV money situation to make any sense we will have to expect that we will only see the same games available on Sky and BT that were originally planned. We may possibly be offered iFollow subscriptions for all games - including 3pm kos. If that is the case, I’ll forego my refund in return for a free subscription. That said, I’m so disillusioned by this whole sorry saga, I think I’d just rather have the refund. Particularly given that football has seen fit to declare it safe to put on matches while at the same time it believes it to be unsafe for spectators. Fans who don’t have coronavirus should be allowed to attend...

  14. On what planet? The guy used to be an agitator, now he’s just a loudmouth, domineering caricature of his former self. His co-presenters must utterly despise him. Such faux-piety and moral-cheerleading from a bloke who apparently thinks it’s ok to log into peoples voicemails to get dirt on them.

  17. This private company in Hong Kong is making tests. The PL are buying them privately which means they can’t be used by those who actually need them. This is a global pandemic. There needs to be a united effort to fix it. Starting with vulnerable people who, lets face it, are the only reason we are in lockdown. Meanwhile footballers being at the top of the list will only serve to extend the lockdown. But, yes, let’s crack on because TV money is far more important. It’s just a shame that ordinary folk think this is acceptable. I just hope nobody currently on furlough and struggling to make ends meet loses their job because of how long this is going on.

  18. One thing that I would say is that there is a further hint of hypocricy in your arguments when you were so enraged that Piers Morgan took up a test whereas you are staunchly defending footballers taking tests. Ultimately as is usually the case your arguments are flawed based on your personal wants and needs, you dislike Piers Morgan whereas you want to see the football back. I half watched the Bayern game earlier and in terms of being eventful, Bayern went 3 up, Frankfurt pulled 2 back before Bayern got a further 2. Usually such a game would have people gripped but it was incredibly difficult to see it as anything other than a meaningless training game. Even if Bayern win the league, would it really matter to anyone in the current situation? Even beyond all of the questions regarding player safety, player welfare/opinions and the morality of testing etc. I do wonder about the longjevity of whether a couple of months down the line, whether the numbers in terms of viewers would be sustainable. When English football returns I suspect there will be some excitement initially but once people tune in to the sanitised product which unfortunately is the only possibility, I suspect that novelty will wear off.

  19. italians officials have confirmed that the iconic san siro can be demolished to make way for a new stadium another corporate bowl no doubt and another iconic venue bulldozed, after the mess they made of the maracana, hampden park and the overblown cost of building a new wembley, sadly we will soon be left with only memories, only the upcoming economic slump can save us from the corporate behamoth

  20. If football uses 1600 tests per week then they aren’t available for anyone else. I don’t know how else to say it mate. If you don’t think more deserving cases are not yet being able to get tested then you aren’t paying attention or don’t have anyone in your family affected (which I’m very happy to hear). Meanwhile I have family in the care industry still waiting. Never mind, at least a load of overpaid loafers are ok.

  21. I'm watching the M'gladbach game and the 1000s of cardboard cut out figures make an effective crowd for TV. Not too noisy and no troubles. Waggott likes this, makes for ease of catering, security etc planning. Decent game too. Just realised that most of the crowd are not following social distancing guidelines.

  23. I'd be tempted to let anyone out of contract go to be honest. Next season will be like glorified training games anyway, I think it would be a good time to promote more from the under 23's. Give more game time to JRC, Buckley, Chapman, Davenport, Butterworth, and promote people like Thompson, Mols, Carter to the fringes of the side. It might just stand them in good stead to when we get going properly again.

  24. Dack is still months off full fitness, I dont see many teams signing a player still to recover from such a bad injury. Plus hes our best player. Surely any clubs cant wrecklessly still spend loads of money in the current situation. You cant complain about the dinancial impact of coronavirus then go around signing players for big money. Hopefully at least reduce the furore around the silly event that deadline day has become. Suspect that we might sign a couple of cheap freebies to fill gaps and little else. Sub par players like Bell and Samuel will be given an extra year I am sure. With at least half of next season behind closed doors it is little to get excited about signing players we wont see!

  25. Yeah I remember there was a lot of excitement about him, but apart from a man of the match performance against Blythe Spartans in the FA Cup was never really given a chance. Matt Derbyshire, seemed he’d finally get a chance on merit, then didn’t he get sent off pre-season (Plymouth) and was back to bit part and off away to Greece?

  26. dunnys england career was doomed from the start unfortunately, succesive england managers had an erection for lampard and gerrard in the middle of the pitch,to such an extent, even a world class player like scholes was shifted out to the flanks, simply no room for dunn especially as he did`nt play for one of the chosen few clubs,i agree he should have won more than 1 measly cap,but plenty of others who should have played for england got shafted as well, how many caps did heskey get??,i could name a dozen players who never got a cap while he was stumbling about the pitch in the guise of an international

  27. I'm amazed Dunn's name has only been fleetingly mentioned a couple of times on here. I remember seeing him and Tugay against Lampard and Petit for Chelsea and thinking I'd much rather have our two. Dunn was thought of as the new Gascoigne at one stage. I remember him scoring a cracking goal for England U21's (possibly against Holland) and being raved about by the national media. He obviously did have injury problems, but I think he could have been top, top level. Should have had a long England career - he was that good.

  28. Agreed, Amo. A few months back I was watching an interview with him where the interviewer referenced people in Spain saying he was one of the best midfielders outside of the big 3 in La Liga - so he must still be playing fairly well! One of many during that era who were criminally used incorrectly - if barely at all.

  29. A superb film from the early 90's - City of God - subtitled in Portuguese. https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0317248/ I put of watching it for years due to the subtitles, but wish I hadn't, great film. Ps - I watched season 1 episode 1 of Top Boy on Tuesday night, that could have done with subtitles, couldn't understand a word of it - But its got me interested, appreciate the heads up.

  30. If it is going down that route, at least make it entertaining, the electronic device also transmits a electric shock to the player as well as alerting the ref . The more out of position a player is when not performing social distancing the higher the voltage.

  31. Apparently the guidelines the league will put to captains tomorrow is to ‘turn your face away if you get tackled’ and that players will only be close enough to be in a contamination zone for an average of 88 seconds per game Absolute bollocks, a corner must take 30 seconds easily, you have 15 or men jostling for position in the box 5-10 times a game alone never mind any marking the rest of the time. If we get this kind of game it’s just going to be exhibition stuff with players going through the motions, not football! Just scrap it and review again when things are clearer

  32. Rochina's had a bit of a resurgence and playing well for Levante in La Liga. Player I always think could have been really good is Paul Gallagher. Such a smart footballer, had real quality. But seemed to not really make the most of it. In terms of wasted talent biggest I've seen at Rovers is probably Junior Hoilett. Unplayable on his day but totally sabotaged himself.

  33. I think if a Souness type of manager had got hold of Rochina he could have turned out to be a good one, similar to how Jansen thrived under Souness. Rochina was never going to flourish under Ke*n, Berg, Appleton or Bowyer though.

  34. Hakan Sukur? Joined Rovers rather late in his career to wonder what might have been? If we including player like this then Nuno Gomes and Ossie Ardiles The one Keen signing I wonder what if would be Simon Vukcevic

  36. Reuben Rochina for me had incredible talent. I will always wonder how he would of turned out for us had he not got injured against Derby in the first game of the season under bowyer. He could of been on one of our main players that year. He career petered out here after that. Think he was mismanaged.
