  1. Its staggered in quite a few countries like Spain as you point out. Not a fan of it to be honest it just lends itself to armchair fans more than anything else.

  3. Walton's errors in the first half of the season were as numerous as Raya's or moreso, but without the brilliant saves to compensate. How spectacular the blunders are is irrelevant because they still shipped goals. He has improved a lot but still doesn't reach the shots Raya can stop at times. Would ditch him to have Raya back in a shot.

  4. It would be complete over-saturation in my view. The only change I’d want (selfishly) would be being able to watch away games for Rovers. You would think the genie is out of the bottle now. Every game will probably be available for £10 per match and 3pm would no longer be sacrosanct. Too expensive in my view. The going rate for streaming is £6-£10 per month - unless one views football like PPV boxing. But the spectacle of professional football really is being there live in the ground. It’s a bug, a social habit, with genuine elation and joy, and stress and misery, shared with people from your town/city. There is nothing like it. Fans aren’t background noise as Sky would have you believe, they are the heartbeat of a football ground.

  10. Most things they do or have done fly right in the face of FFP. Yes cutting the wage bill would affect the team but on ther side of the coin money still gets wasted and bills run up left right and center. Then there is the signing off of 5/6/7 million pound tranfers on players who are real gambles not final jigsaw promotion push types. THe old FFP line only gets trotted out when the buzzards are circling over something or other, or as last time when a big round of sales is beginning to loom on the horizon.

  11. Youd think the first thing the owners "always happy to sign a cheque" will do is reimburse those not satisfied by a link to the BCD football for whatever reason. FFP I think was only ever an excuse and of course the pandemic will have affected our absent owners too so to expect a transfer budget of any significance still seems naive to me.

  18. It's funny, these kind of injuries have different effects on players. Often you see a player who is at a certain level get this kind of injury and never return to that level again. Another is that Injuries tend to breed other injuries. But on the flip side I remember when Emerton did his knee (ACL?) during the 08/09 season - I think it was in the January - anyway when he came back in 09/10 he declared that the serious injury had been strangely positive for him. He'd been playing whilst carrying a few different injuries and the break gave him chance to fully rest his body then the rehab had rebuilt him to make him more robust. And thats Emerton who above all else was a fantastic natural athlete.

  23. I dont think Sky or any broadcaster does see fans quite as unimportant as background noise as you put it, theres a constant acknowledgement that it isnt the same even from commentators and pundits. I feel thats a bit of a stretch, but of course money rules the roost, and if the demand is there, it will always be something they will push and push and feel justified in doing so. I dont know whether they will push for that, the Premier League is already all over the place in terms of schedule but having at least half of the games on a Saturday at 3pm at least gives it some structure and I am unsure whether it is naivety or an excuse (or both) as to Neville justifying a La Liga style schedule by implying that the 3pm blackout would solve the potential knock on effect for lower clubs. I do agree totally with your comments about what football means and also that it would be over-saturation. if you have too much of something the importance can fade.

  26. Sounds a horrible idea doesn't it? I do think we are going down that route with the top flight though and have for a while, and the revised fixture list due to the pandemic might accelerate it. By the time the next TV deal comes around, I could easily see a schedule like this with a Saturday 3pm blackout applied... Friday 8pm Saturday 12:30pm, 5:30pm, 8pm Sunday 12pm, 2pm, 4pm, 6pm, 8pm Monday 8pm Like you say, it makes the thought of a promotion back there less enviable indeed, and would kill away followings for smaller top flight clubs. I think it just means that no top flight games would happen in that timeslot, so lower league attendances wouldn't be compromised.

  28. Downing was excellent when at LB earlier in the season. Its not ideal because hes best in midfield but he reads the game far better than Bell and gives us a further element of control on the ball from there. I like the look of the team mentioned by @Prelude I suspect Bennett will be stuck in there and exploited however.

  29. Says a lot about how seriously he looked after himself before. Though if he had been a ‘proper athlete’ to start with he would be in the PL already, so his fondness for a pint or two has worked out well for us...

  30. Proof of the pudding will be in the eating, but if it turns out that Dack can return significantly more athletic (seem to remember Robert Pires coming back from an ACL injury in a similar way) then it could be the difference from him being a very good Championship player, to one who is Perhaps a very optimistic reading of things, but it was only his sharpness that stops him dominating at this level. He definitely has the ability to play in the top league.

  31. Walton nyambe Lenihan Tosin downing evans Travis rothwell Holtby JRC arma If bell is fit I would play him at left back and downing instead of JRC. Big game for us, a win would be massive and really set us up for two favourable fixtures. A loss could easily leave us stranded in midtable

  32. I’m pretty sure he’s been awful over the last couple of season, makes loads of mistakes unless I’m thinking of the wrong player. Would steer well clear, we need much better.

  34. 5 Subs per match on the face of it is good because we have some decent kids coming through. That said, this will benefit clubs with better quality in depth in their squads and is unfair on smaller clubs that do not have that benefit and have built their squad around the previous rules of 3 subs per game. They should have kept the same rules - it is the same for everybody regarding injuries and fitness. Managers should have to just rotate more each match (TM would have loved that).

  41. No shizzle? Testing people reduces risk? Maybe they should be testing school kids so they can get an education and their parents can go to work. Oh wait, there’s no money in that! Anyway, great news that football is back with a bang. Or a nil-nil with a error from the officials.

  42. I'm just glad that having decided no refunds for struggling fans and receiving his full salary at least Waggott still gets to go and watch the game at Ewood at our expense whilst we all have to sit at home struggling to stream it onto a laptop. Them and us indeed. Stay at home, shut up, dont you dare harm the club by expecting money back, be grateful for the streaming but make sure you cough up again next year. We need that money to pay 6 figure salaries out so Waggott and his mates can go and watch.

  43. The Full Members Cup win in 87 was probably the best day I've ever had supporting the club, I still get goose bumps watching the footage, superb. Found this picture earlier today, thanks to Blackburn now and then, what a great pic:

  44. Just had a proper read of the notes of the FF meeting and, potentially, the more I read it the more appalled I am. I really hope Waggott doesn't send out another communication advising fans that refunds are a matter of "financial hardship" and that if you want one you've got to contact the Club pleading your case. Refunds should be available to anyone who wants one regardless of status, and regardless of the reason they want one, no questions asked, but obviously if you get one you don't get the I follow. I'm sure we've all been in the position at some point where we've had to contact our creditors to negotiate a temporary arrangement regarding a debt but it's pretty embarrassing having to explain why you're in difficulty, and not the most pleasant experience. I think it really will be the final straw for most fans if they have to go begging cap in hand to the Club for a relatively small refund.

  45. Yes it was a friendly, but the day I enjoy watching a Blackburn Rovers team get beat 6-0 is the day I knock it on the head.

  46. I think a lot will feel similar. Everything he has done to date is about short term gain. Pennies now over pounds later. The sad thing is that eventually Waggott will leave to another six figure job and we may be left with nothing.

  47. Monk has left under a cloud or odd circumstances from every club he has been at. He's only about 40 and yet has gone through 5 clubs in the same number of years. Its never been a case of him being sacked because results have been poor or their League position being a problem. He left Leeds when they nearly got into the playoffs, Middlesbrough when they were in the top 6 or very near, Birmingham in strange circumstances after most felt he had done well keeping them steady during the Ffp problems. Lee Carsley is being linked to the job today.
