  1. Frustrates me so much that everyone calls out playing Gallagher and Bennett as a bad move. Then we are proved right. Time after time, after time. Feels like I’m banging my head against a brick wall.

  2. That defeat ultimately rests on Mowbray. By championship standards hes had plenty to spend over the last 3 years and used it very poorly. Armstrong and Dack aside i cant recall any good signings. £10m plus of strikers starting today and 4 goals between them. Our best players are academy. Never mind the loyalty he shows to absolute dog awful players. We need to move him on over the summer (autumn) break. Will be stagnant for years under him.

  3. Comparing Raya to Walton is like comparing Gordon Banks to Joe Hart. Raya is no Banks but the difference in ability is still stark.

  4. Brereton and Nyambe looking good so far Still think Nyambe is the best right back in this league he’s a beast

  6. If you pay big money for strikers with no real scoring pedigree then you can't express any surprise whatsoever when they don't take chances. You spend a few hundred grand if you want to gamble on those types, like he did with Samuel. Then when they don't offer anything you cut them loose with no big regrets, like he doesn't do with Samuel. If you want goal scorers you really need to find one's that know where the net is regularly whatever level they are at.

  7. I don't know but if he is and Rovers want to avoid paying him why is he on the bench? When I heard Gallacher mention this I thought for sure that Mowbray would be questioned about it on Radio Lancashire but no mention of it. Mowbray must have the easiest ride from local press than any other manager in the country.

  8. This manager has his favourites and the thing is they are totally crap . how Bennett is captain is outrages & TM is a very defensive minded old school manager. He Lined Up for a 0-0 V Wigan ... ...Venkys backed him for our forward positions and he wasted 10 million plus on 2 duds and now he keeps playing them ...... Hes going to milk this club as long as he can cause the people around him are all asleep and worship him ...

  11. Bennett has been on the bench four times this season and has started every other game. He is captain (shouldn’t be) and he plays even when he plays out of position at full back. He’s Mr Versatile and Tony’s man. I used to think he was a real asset to the team but that was in the middle or at a pinch on the right side of midfield. At this point, he’s Jason Lowe with a fist pump. Mowbray values players’ contribution to dressing room chat more than their contribution on the pitch.

  12. Kevin Gallacher on Radio Lancashire just made a perfectly valid point as to why Mulgrew wasn't played at left back today. He has played Champions League and International football in that position and whilst he is long past his best it would at least be a square peg in a square hole rather than playing a player there whose left foot is for standing on and contributes the arse end of nothing.

  13. The goalkeeper is quite frankly an embarrassment, he is quite possibly the worst keeper I have seen at Rovers. I didn't rate Raya but he is like Yashin compared to this clown. At both ends of the pitch we have Gallagher and Walton two men over six foot tall yet when the ball is in the air they look about 5 foot. Bennett was appalling as is par for the course with him. You have to wonder what Mowbray see's in him. I appreciate that we have injuries at left back but we all know how hopeless he is especially at full back. Why not give Thompson a game, he's nearly 21 just been given a new contract yet even when Williams, Bell and JRC are injured he still can't make the bench. Why bother giving him a new contract if he is not deemed a better option than Bennett. Gallagher and Brereton are not good enough for this level, pure madness from the manager to not start Armstrong today, we looked more of a threat going forward within 5 minutes of him being on than we had in the previous 65. I'm afraid that this group of players and the manager simply lack the winning mentality for us to make the play offs let alone get promoted. Every time the playoffs are in sight we buckle. If have genuine aspirations for promotion we need some new faces on the pitch and in the dugout. We need some winners, some strong characters in the dressing room to shake things up a bit, Mowbray's comments this week about spending money to keep two players who haven't played a minute this season sums up the cosy club that we currently are.

  14. This guy is a hamster in a wheel. Sometimes he goes fast and sometimes he goes slowly. Sometimes he just stands still. And sometimes he even goes backwards. But ultimately he is going nowhere. Kevin Gallagher summed it up just now by saying, and I paraphrase for brevity, we set up 4-6-0, defending before attacking, and sapping the confidence out of our forward players. If we cannot go for it from the position we are in, safe, with a 7th placed finish no better than 21st, and on the tails of local rivals then when can we? We need to perform far far better than that. But why should the players care? Doesn’t matter if they are in or out of form, it doesn’t affect chances of selection. Doesn’t matter what happens on the pitch or for how many matches, Mowbray is under zero pressure. All too comfortable and, as far as I’m concerned, promotion will mean pressure from fans for a change of manager, while WDL in the Championship will not.

  15. Walton - 4 Weak keeping cost us. Nyambe - 8 Drove down the wing and did his job. Tosin/Lenihan - 6.5 Looked like a comfortable afternoon. When you win, they get 7. Lose and out come 6s Bennett - 3 No left foot so had to turn infield every time. Gave the ball away many times. Passed back repeatedly rather than cross with his left. Truly awful. Travis - 8 My god he is vital to us. Without him, there was absolutely nothing in midfield in possession or out. MOTM. Downing - 7 Sprayed the ball around and decent set pieces but didn't get a free ride without two defensive partners. Rothwell - 5 Tried but failed. Holtby - 5 Tried but failed. Brereton - 5 Tried but failed. Gallagher - 4 Failed. Armstrong/Samuel/Graham - 5 Too little time. Mowbray - 4 When your team bosses the midfield but can't come close to creating a chance and you have 5 subs to play with, don't wait until the hour mark to change things.

  18. Andy Bayes is a Rovers fan. As is Graham Liver, both on Radio Lancs. The reason they never ask Mowbray any questions that could even remotely be considered critical is, just like the LET, they’re worried their access would be limited as a result. They’re happy to criticise and interrogate MPs, councillors etc but never ever ever criticise the Rovers manager, or at least question his decisions.

  19. I could stomach losing 2-0 if we'd really gone for it in the last half hour. We scare teams when we're on the front foot, and had nothing to lose in this match at this stage of the season. But no, we sat back and pissed about playing tippy tappy, until one of our clanger candidates could be given the opportunity to shine. With various options available to oblige,(Bennett, Rothwell, Johnson, Walton), it was great to see one of them eventually step up to the plate. ???????!!

  20. It’s not in Mowbray’s interest to get near the Premier League ....can you imagine him and his mate Venus locking tactical horns with Klopp ? Sadly, “ jobs for the boys “ is the order of the day at Ewood . No ambition,....we’ve become a rudderless club ...I can take it when we try and fail but I can’t take this soulless, gutless approach. Is there anyone out there who has ANY hope of success next season with Waggott, Mowbray and Venus ?? Please inform me of how you feel this way.

  21. Can just see this coming We will move on to the next one ! Terrible football and how he’s lasted this long with the tools he’s had only Venkys can explain... We need a sporting director to monitor his goings on .... Too much power with no one to question him ...

  22. Didn't take long for the real Tony Mowbray Rovers to return. All those fawning over Samuel put away your sympathetic thoughts just because of his injury. Far too much old pals stuff at Ewood under this manager. Time to move him and several others on they aren't up to it and are far too comfortable.

  25. I hope by tonight we will be able to say. Rovers strong restart is really putting the cat amongst the play-off pigeons.

  26. Brentford's strong restart is really putting the cat among the promotion pigeons. We have totally messed up so many games without any opposition help that we can only concentrate on beating what's in front of us. There isn't a team we can't beat in the Championship and certainly no team we can't lose to. Today's clashes between clubs at the top only helps us IF we help ourselves. Otherwise it's all academic.

  27. He had plenty of clever touches, linked well with Holtby, had a cracking ball to Nyambe early doors. Rothwell is about the only player we have that can actually carry the ball. Hardly up too match fitness, just wouldn’t get after him too much, we all know there is a player in there. Free kick was bloody close too. Not sure why he is being lumped into the imposter category. After that the imposter club contains: Elliot Bennett- The President Sam Gallagher - Chris Brown was better Bradley Johnson - Pub Player Christian Walton - Absolute Dope

  29. Let's be honest here too, Samuel is useless. Did absolutely nothing when he came on apart from somehow missing Armstrong's cross that was on a plate for him. We have some collection of non scoring "strikers". Then the one most likely to score is on the bench.

  30. We have a fairly good squad when you consider the younger players. A decent manager would sort it all out and have us much better. I mean Bennett at left back.........again?????? Give me strength!!
    3 points
  31. It looked a poor lineup and that's how it turned out. Bennett at left back is ludicrous and why does Mowbray play no-hopers such as Rothwell? He'd be first out of the door for me
    3 points
  32. He was caught one on one ,he's 36 and not a defender. Harsh to blame him for it.

  33. As ever....Tony has us scratching our heads. Does he not know his best 11 ? Does he select his match day squad on sympathy ? Surely , it’s getting to the point where even he has to accept that Bennett and Gallagher aren’t footballers . What does he see in Rothwell ? Why does he play Holtby as a false 9 ? As for the keepers he signs....no words. We will get NOWHERE with Mowbray ....nice man...but that’s where it ends. We have the nucleus of a very good squad with a few acquisitions...but with Tony at the helm ...it will never happen and these lads will be off .

  34. TMs fault we lost. For all his good work, his stubbornness continues to cost us. Rovers had periods where we dominated, and almost scored, and I can't help wondering that had we not carried two outfield players (Gally and Bennett) whether it would have been enough to get us over the line. Bennett is ridiculously weak at left back. With someone a bit better there, would they have been on top at times as much? I don't think so. Likewise, someone with a bit more predatory instinct then Gally, with a marginal amount of talent, and we probably would have converted at least one of our chances/made something of our possession. If this was a one off that would be fair enough but everyone on this board knew they would be the weak links, and they have repeatedly shown that that's the case. In light of this there is no reason or excuse for TM to be starting them. It's his stubborn nature and favouritism that is costing us. As for Walton, two weeks, and at fault for two goals. He simply isn't good enough. We've had a crap sandwich from him: terrible till December, good till the break, and then appalling since we have come back. Overall that suggests a poor keeper. Also the frequency of individual errors seems to be much more regular than Raya. Don't get me wrong, Raya had them in him, but Walton seems to produce them more regularly than Raya did with us. Another downgrade. Him not being on a permanent contract, may be a blessing after all. No team can carry 3 substandard players. Johnson always blows hot and cold. He's either very good or very poor. In some respects what should we expect for an aging journeyman defensive mid, but I suspect he was brought with a more central role in mind, and that his wages don't match the reality of what he actually is. Controversial after another solid showing from Bereton, who isn't the liability he has been previously, but even with his improved performances I'm not sure he is at the appropriate level required, or perhaps I should say needed, for Rovers. Ditto Samuel since his return from injury. Better, but not good enough. Overall, it's no overreaction or doom mongering to say the season is probably over. Yes, we should keep going in case the unlikely happens, but the reality is now we need a number of teams to slip up for us to get back into serious contention for the playoffs. It also requires us to do the business as well, which on this showing isn't that likely.

  35. Good question. How much is an attacking midfielder with 0 assists and 0 goals worth.
    3 points
  36. Looked like a nothing goalless draw until Walton's clanger. Why he is trying to catch a ball like that instead of punching it clear is beyond me. He's simply not good enough. For all our possession the front three looked toothless in terms of scoring. Rothwell, again, flatters to deceive whilst Gallagher looks a shadow of the player who was here a couple of years ago. Brereton was better but, again, never looked like scoring. Disappointing after last week but realistically we are a top ten team rather than top six at the moment.

  37. Aye and what Walton doesn't have a better back 4 infront of him than Raya had? All I can tell you is Raya always had a Worldie in him also. Id forgive an odd clanger if he is pulling out stops that would otherwise result in a goal against 9 times out of 10

  38. It’s a funny one with keepers, they always get a hard time as mistakes are highlighted and when they’re good they rarely get the spotlight. However, I’m racking my brain and struggling to remember when Walton has SAVED us points, had a blinder and meant we got 3 rather than 1 point. Could an academy keeper be any worse? At least he would be one of our own for the future. Gallagher cannot start again given the other options we have. Tony is saving face for wasting money and a hell of a lot of wages. Rothwell? Not a top half Championship player at the moment. For a flair/luxury player he doesn’t offer enough. It’s not season over yet (Swansea lost to bottom of the league today so everyone will drop points). We were underdogs today, but it’s the kind of game we need to be winning. It just means we’re going to have to come out of that 4 game horror run with more than 6 points which is very unlikely.

  42. So was their keeper in the 1st half, but he made sure he held onto the ball. That's the difference.

  43. Very even game. Need to crank it up second half. I would go Dom Samuel for Gallagher from the start of the second half. Don't sub Brereton- give him the 90.

  44. Williams over bell all day. williams is a decent cb and a poor left back. Bell is just poor. He hasn’t improved in the whole time he’s been here. He can’t tackle , he checkS back and plays It safe without putting a cross in. He seems to lack confidence and he hasnt grown and fulfilled his potential the way I thought he would because he has the attributes. Ultimately he is a defender that can’t defend. Williams is decent cb cover and had never let us down when played there. The answer is clearly we need a new LB

  45. Looking a lot better now after a shaky start. Just lacking any major goal throat which is where we miss the likes of Graham, Dack and Armstrong.

  46. severly lacking width and bennett who`s a liability at right back and a disaster of nuclear proportions at left back

  47. Game of opinions and all that, but I’ve honestly not seen a part of Bell’s game that is good enough for a side that want to be a contender for PL promotion on a consistent basis.

  48. I literally said it’s a good policy. But you still need to look after the financial well being of the club. There was a chance AA flopped too, but a £1.7m initial fee for a player that had already scored goals and provided a plethora of assists was much less of a risk than £7million on a teenager that had showed relatively little for Forest. And who says we get anywhere near £15/£20 million for AA anyway (to ensure break even or a profit overall from all 3 signings) in this new world? Of course a club of our means can’t say ‘oh well’ if BB ends up being released or sold for a pittance.

  49. 0-0 at Preston. 1-0 to Rovers, Ben Brereton, even if he falls over and it goes in off his beard. That will do very nicely please. MUST WIN !
