  1. That's the way of the world. Adam Armstrong was on his way to Preston as they had agreed a deal with Newcastle when we went in for him. In Ridsdales words 'we blew them out of the water' financially. I don't remember too much criticism of Armstrong on here for taking a better financial deal and usurping Preston. It's football.

  2. Rovers transfer update 11/9/20 - Rovers fans get excitable about the signing of Rathbone which turns out to be false. However no one feels too bad for being suckered by the rumours as he plays in midfield which increased the credibility of the rumour a thousandfold. - The first PR rumblings of operation 'we don't need defenders we have Del and Warton' emerge. This leaves fans a tad bemused as to why we have been hunting defenders if we have the necessary players here already. It also leaves fans a tad bewildered as having seen Del play they know he is not very good. - Hot off last night's clarification of what comparisons with other teams are acceptable (if you missed it, the answer is only those that make Rovers look good) Chaddy published his helpful player character test. If they sign for other clubs they are money grabbing bar stewards mercenary pansies and all round bad eggs that we don't want here. If they sign for Rovers it's due to their admiration of TM and their ambition. - And of course Rovers still haven't signed anyone else. Why would they,? The season only starts tomorrow.

  3. Theres an incredible determination to see things with blue and white tinted glasses. Armstrong is a great lad who came to play for Mowbray who he adores, any player who goes elsewhere is a greedy tosser who we can do without.

  4. It must be really gutting for you that Raya may be off to Arsenal. Despite the fact it would net us a bit of much needed cash that might be spent on desperately needed transfers, you seem to be really unhappy. Obviously this is because it would prove to be a massive dropped bollock by Mowbray and the club, and rather than acknowledge that you would rather dig out Raya. It’s as transparent as it is weird

  5. Is there any element of our support base that Waggott hasn't yet annoyed or completely alienated through his various schemes? Long standing season ticket holders in the BBE Upper tier family stand - their area shut and closed down and forcibly relocated to pitchside - no consultation JW Lower BBE side - turfed out because their seats became the new family stand and got taken over by families and kids Darwen Enders - their area shut down at a moment's notice without consultation - no effort whatsoever made to relocate them to a suitable other area of the ground - many no longer go to Ewood - less aggro though so happy days down there. JW upper - now being shifted out to make way for prawn sandwich brigade Riversiders will be next - they've already had a dose of what is to come with that stand being shut in most cup fixtures - league games will be next I feel lucky that as a JW Lower Darwen End sider I've not yet fallen victim to any of these bright ideas. Plenty of time for that though. When his plan for shifting thousands of season tickets in the lower tiers gets unveiled. I can't imagine how he plans on running it and this obsession with 'lower tiers' all stemming from Suhail and wanting the ground to look busy on TV. All done in the space of 3 years. All done in a very callous approach of 'this is it, take it or leave it, if you're a proper fan you'll back the club' I think people are rapidly getting wise to it and seeing through it all now and being asked to pay more for the privilege is a bitter pill to swallow.

  6. No way should buckley be sent out on loan. This lad has something the rest of the team lacks. In 5 minutes he makes more defence splitting passes than rothwell in 5 games

  8. I put an offer in for a new Lamborghini the other day. I didnt offer the asking price and couldn't pay it but it was worth a try. Someone else paid what was needed and is now driving around in it. I had my photo taken at the dealership though so I can send that to my mates and they will be impressed. I can't help but think the above is Rovers approach to transfers.

  9. It is absolutely ridiculous that we haven’t strengthened the defence over the summer. We are starting with 3 of the 4 who we got relegated with and 3 that started the first league one game. How is Mowbray, a centre half himself, not able to make one decent defensive signing? It’s laughable. And his excuses and bullsh!t he spouts in interviews is boring. And Bayes is worse than useless with his questions. No hard questioning, he’s just a sycophant. Doesn’t want to lose his access.

  10. This. 100% this. Why he’s contemplating Williams above Wharton when he’s come out and specifically said he’s actively trying to get shut of Williams is PEAK Mowbray. Zero logic in that at all! Give Wharton a chance because a. We need to see if he can cut it at some point and b. He’s likely to still be here when the window slams shut.

  11. Transfer window my arse. Why the local rag doesn't just print the words 'Sort out the defence you Prize Wassock' in large letters across the back page is beyond my comprehension. Ho hum. Maybe

  12. Chaddy Chaddy Chaddy, it wasn't his agent, it was more the public thrashings Mowbray kept giving Raya that made the move happen. Mowbray didn't rate him for some ridiculous reason. The opportunity to move to the premier League and play for Arsenal or Brentford in the championship, easy choice. Let's not get ridiculous please.

  13. Oh come on now. Why is he different from any player who moves for more money. I have never heard about a player who has turned down a far more lucrative deal to play for a particular manager or club. If it was for ambition alone then Preston were a better proposition. Your judgement is blinkered by anything which adversely shows any links to Rovers as criticism or in this case reality.

  14. TM says we are light on numbers so he can't go on loan yet. Dedicated CMs: Travis, Evans, Johnson, Davenport Optional CMs: Bennett, Rothwell, Holtby, arguably JRC. Dedicated AMs (for one position): Dack soon, Holtby, Rothwell Optional AMs: Armstrong, JRC, Dolan Emergency AMs: Brereton, Chapman, Bennett has been used here before albeit crap. Light in numbers in Buckley's position? Nope we are flooded for numbers there, whether you see him as CM or AM. Get him out on loan. Stop collecting centre mids like you're filling out a Panini Midfielder sticker book and stagnating too many of their developments by having them all play bit parts. Taking Buckley's cameos away for a while means better game time for others, and helps us figure out who is really up to it. TM obviously doesn't see that much difference in current contributions with the others, or he wouldn't be entertaining sending JB out on loan. If he is looking good enough to stamp his mark as a regular starter here by January we can always recall him. Stop pissing about, these League One sides might have filled their spot by the time we bring in another CM or Dack is fit again, and we already have more numbers here than we need even when you take Buckley out. I know some of you rate him for right now, but come on he is still a bit part player at the moment. If you want him to show he can be more he needs to show he can play 90 mins of men's football week in week out. These are key development times.

  15. Interesting one that as the LT at the time ran with us not being able to match his Toon wedge of c20k but offering a 4 yr contract on c15k. Sounds about right and enforces even more what bullshit Mowbray was spouting about Bauer as you are not telling me they suddenly found that kind of money for a 4 year deal when they couldn't compete for AA. Tripped himself up badly there which is why i find some of this windows guff a bit far fetched. To me it resembles Bowyers last summer when the taps had gone off and FFP had us very limited to where we could shop. Why don't they just speak the bloody truth fans might be a bit more accepting then.

  16. Rothwell runs sideways and leaves it far to late constantly . With buckley he's already seen the pass before he gets the ball . Its either first time or 1 or 2 touches and the ball is released . Rothwell is head down

  18. I’m sick of being told ‘it’s a tough market for everyone’ and other such platitudes then Chaddy comes along with anecdotes about x, y and z not signing anyone. Why do we have to accept it and settle? For once why can’t be one of the clubs overcoming the difficulties and getting deals over the line, Bristol City and others have managed to land their targets yet we should just accept that once again we start the season short despite knowing for months where we needed to strengthen. Tony, Swag or someone else is failing at their task here!

  19. Oh for...I can barely be bothered to explain it to you at this point, as much as I appreciate your passion for football and the club. But no, I was referring to your relentless defence of 99.9% of whatever the club and management do, even when it's a blatant fail.

  23. Those ever moving goal posts have taken another shuffle overnight. Rich Sharpe now saying that if Williams stays it might just be one CB we are after along with a LB. A couple of weeks ago it was at least 2 CBs, another GK and a LB with hopefully a CM and RB. This is what they will now do. Gradually reduce the numbers and positions targeted until we reach a stage where 1 or 2 are celebrated as getting the business done. I also expect the CB target to evaporate after Magloire or Wharton have a decent game. I doubt we will see any mention of another keeper. Having us on here.

  24. Bell's much better at LB than Williams for me as well and he isn't the best to put it mildly.

  25. We already have Davenport who TM signed 2 years ago and has barely used, how many young midfielders we aren't going to use do we actually need? Reassuring to hear good old Tony doesn't like wasting the owners money though.......

  26. Chaddy apart, can't believe some are still trying to justify the Raya sale on the basis we might receive a sell on clause if he moves to Arsenal! The fact that such a big Club appear to be in for him a little more than 12 months after Mowbray scapegoated him, left him out of the side in favour of the useless Leutwiler, and sold him for peanuts just proves what a bad judge of a player's ability Mowbray is. As regards the money we got for him, if Brentford stand firm and push the deal up to something around the £15m mark we'll receive almost as much in add ons as we did for selling him! Which again only serves to underline what a calamitous bollock we dropped. On the loyalty issue I think ideally I'd prefer to see Raya complete at least one more season in the Championship with Brentford but to be fair to him he has no idea if a Club the size of Arsenal are ever going to come knocking again. It's very unlikely Liverpool, City or Manure are going to need a keeper in the foreseeable, Chelsea are apparently closing in on someone from Rennes so that only really leaves Spurs in this Country as a similar option. The chance may never come again. If he was talking about possibly moving to say Crystal Palace then that would be a slightly different debate but again, it would be hard to turn down a move from the Champuonship to the Premier League.

  27. Can’t believe anyone would begrudge Raya the chance to sign for Arsenal! Craig Bellamy left Rovers after one season when Liverpool came knocking and he is still fairly well revered on here.

  28. Williams as a left back is atrocious but as a backup centre half I don’t honestly think he’s that bad. He had some decent games at centre half last season. Not bothered if he stays or goes but he has to play alongside Lenihan tomorrow for me. Doesn’t change the fact we NEED to bring a centre half and a left back in ASAP

  29. I just don't get this. We're at least 4 players shy of what everyone expected as a minimum 6 weeks ago. Eve of the season and now people are ok with that? Jeez.

  31. What do you expect any player to say when they sign for a club? its always the same platitudes. Have you ever heard a player say " I came here because they offered me more money than anywhere else. I liked the other clubs and their managers more but, i like money." You are so naive Chaddy

  32. Covid is sadly ramping up again. R over 1 and cases doubling inside a week. Govt for sure are going to do everything they can to keep schools open so live crowds at football matches simply isn't happening again in 2020. This dawning realisation is going to tip several EFL clubs and even the odd PL outfit into absolute despair financially before the window closes. For one thing, PL clubs declare their squad of 25 before the EFL Window closes so loan availabilities become much more visible. Rovers keeping their budget to themselves could be in prime position to do some remarkably astute business in early October. A wily old campaigner like Warnock will be thinking thjis way up at Boro.

  33. Under someone like Allardyce he'd use it to get him winning free kicks in the final 3rd as often as possible. Trying to use anything and everything to gain that extra inch on the opposition and win games. Take what a player is good at and flog it to death, fit it into a team and leave the weaknesses for the training ground and extra work with the coaches. Matchday is all about getting points.

  34. What do you mean, so what if he develops into a top keeper? Many of us thought that was a given. Should we flog Nyambe, Lenham, Travis and Armstrong for 3 .million quid a piece as well? So what if they develop into top players!! So to summarise, we sold our first choice keeper for a knockdown fee without sourcing a replacement first, under estimated the difficulty in getting a decent replacement and allegedly missed out on our targets, ended up with Brighton's fourth choice keeper on loan who is quite possibly the worst professional goalie ever to don a pair of gloves and a little over 12 months later one of the six biggest Clubs in the Country is after our original keeper for 3x what we offloaded him for. And you can't see a problem with that? I know your role on here is to pop up every transfer window and praise everything that happens at the Club and try and get as many people onside as possible but that's stretching it a bit even by your standards.

  35. This is exactly what it is. Anyone who leaves has to be a massive failure for some fans. It’s not just Chaddy and it’s not just Mowbray. It’s the difference between eternal optimists (those who are satisfied with words even each other’s words) and those who want to see reasons for optimism (the actions and results). Prime example is the European scouting network. Plenty of talk and the one signing validates the whole process. Meanwhile ever since setting it up our recruitment has been a shambles. Just look at January, never mind the Summer so far. A few loans will paper over the cracks and cheap talk about players wage demands will be enough for some.

  36. Last season when we had a settled back four of Bell, Tosin, Lenihan and Nyambe we only lost a single game against Fulham (1-0). Bell was much improved in that period and far superior to Williams who is an awful LB, which is why he’s himself asked to not be considered for that position anymore. Williams has shown himself to be a capable CB when he’s played there for us. Can you name a single game he was truly poor at CB for us? That’s not me saying that Bell and Williams are good enough for a promotion chasing club. But they are more than capable of doing a job to get results in this league. Wharton/Magloire/Carter look really promising but Magloire/Carter have already shown they have major mistakes in them at this level and Wharton is unproven.

  37. Selling him for £3m will turn out to be one of the worst pieces of business this club has ever done I’m sure of it.

  38. He will. A couple of years of appearances in early Europa/FA/League cup campaigns and he’ll be pretty much an established PL-level player. Every chance to thrive working in that environment too. Good luck to him.

  41. To say that Boro are earmarked as being some sort of justification for our failures in the transfer market, despite the fact that for us it is the same every year, they have just completed their third signing of Championship experience in Sam Morsy.

  45. Indeed it is. A lot of history rewriting too, conveniently forgetting that he was dropped for Leutwiler for no apparent reason at the end of his time here. I'd have wanted to leave if I was him based on that alone. I wasn't shy in saying he'd end up in one of Europe's top leagues within a couple of years after we sold him last season as he had all the attributes to be a top keeper IF well coached. Good luck to him.
