  1. Lewis Holtby is a Rolls Royce of a player in this league. Mentally head and shoulders above anything I've seen this season. I've not seen a more effortless, classy display for some time from a Rovers midfielder. Dont think a Preston player could even smell him.

  2. Suck that up Nobbers, brilliant. As poor as we may have been in recent years against them, we've never been anywhere near as shit as that!

  3. Brereton was a revelation to me....clearly enjoying his football at the moment, his delight at setting up Dolan' goal was good to see.

  4. Just reading the Preston forum "Our pathetic performance aside Blackburn look very good. That’s what happens when you invest in pace up top, are ambitious in your recruitment both permanently and on loan, and improve your squad year on year. The team improves." Things you love to see

  6. Never had a real hatred of PNE, plenty of mates supported them and we shared a dislike of Burnley. Mind you it may be that I was influenced by one of the funnier events I saw at a game back in the 70's. I was in the enclosure (or whatever it was called at Deepdale - might have been the paddock) with a couple of mates. Before the game kicked off there was a sparse crowd in there, a mixture of Blue and Whites, and North Enders. Stood at the front was a couple, Rovers fans, late middle-aged with the lady carrying a big hand-bag. Behind them was a semi-inebriated Prestonian who, not surprising given it was the 70's, was pouring out a mixture of bile and obscenities. Lady turns round "no need for the potty mouth, stop swearing", drunken Prestonian to the man stood next to the lady "you should tell your wife to f.......", lady swings hand-bag into his face. To this day I wondered whether she had a house brick in it as the drunk fell backwards, cracking his head on the barrier behind him and collapsing on the floor. As he rose, apoplectic with rage and screaming more obscenities he realised that everyone (PNE fans included) were rolling about laughing and a couple of rather large PNE lads were standing over him. They explained fairly succinctly that he should move on and stop shaming their club. Away he skulked. A couple of things, it was pure slapstick comedy and would have made YouTube gold, the other was the fact that it was Prestonians who got rid of him, although the lady looked more than capable of that if needed. Bearing in mind the 70s was a hairy period to follow your club away from home it was nice to see. Personally I think mickey-taking is fine and my mates will be the first to let me know if PNE win - and I will return the favour (much overdue) but so long as we don't degenerate back to the mindless violence that went on back then. I know it hasn't disappeared with those lot up the M65 but after all they are a Yorkshire club. Anyway - come on Rovers!!

  7. Very good performance tonight. Think it's only the manager that can hold us back, it's pretty clear we shouldn't be playing the likes of Evans and Bennett and you can also only play one of Johnson or Trybull at the same time, and JRC isn't even in the same league as Nyambe at RB. Holtby is absolutely key for us. Brereton was great, surprisingly Gallagher was ok. Wharton is looking incredibly impressive, does what it says on the tin, nothing fancy, just solid no frills defending. Dolan's cameo was sensational, never seen anything like the turn and dummy which sent the Preston player off into the car park for a burger and him in the other direction clear into the area. Great night, just need to be way more consistent.

  12. This is ROVERS! Now go on a Run! Brereton showed today why we signed him. He was oustanding all game. So happy for Dolan. Everyone played well tonight. COME ON ROVERS!

  13. Thinking of that Preston fan who said we'll "never do anything with that Dinosaur Mowbray in charge"... Alex Neils side were embarrassing. Looked like a league 2 side who we'd drawn in the cup.

  15. Please please don’t mess this up from here. I happen to live next door to Preston’s assistant manager, I teach numerous PNE fans and my place of work is opposite the home of Deepdale Duck. I have to drive past Deepdale every day to pick my toddler up from nursery. I can’t escape them. I’m surrounded. Please please don’t mess this up from here.

  16. I'd personally prefer Dolan to come on for the last 25/30 minutes against tiring legs. Be nice for him to get the winner.

  17. The Key to us playing well or not seems to be us playing 1 CDM or 2. When we play 1 we boss it when we play 2 eg. Johnson and Trybull or Evans and Johnson etc we don't perform. Rothwell and Holtby together with a CDM is absoloutly perfect.

  18. I liked how Dolan was busting a gut to get onto that cross. If you're a winger get right into the box when the ball is on the other flank. That's what he did and he was rewarded with a tap in.

  19. Holtby when fit and the rest of the team give him the platform is the new Championship Tugay. The king is dead, long live the king !

  20. Excellent stuff tonight Mowbray got it spot on and the boys delivered, one of our Dr Jekyll performances again thankfully. Outplayed them and bullied them with the ball so they resorted to the nasty stuff the tossers. Strangely subdued performance from them but we'll take it. Waited a long time to see us dick them there. Stuff it up ya you tinpot knobends !

  23. So what do I personally want tonight? Easy, a win. Would I take a draw now? No, absolutely not. Can’t think of any reason whatsoever why any roverite would do that. what do I not want to see? I don’t want to see North End do what too many sides have done, not just this season but for too many seasons now - taking points while doing next to nothing to merit them. I don’t want to see rovers throwing players forwards while leaving big gaps at the back and the back four continually exposed. I want North End, if they do come away with points, to have had their hardest game for a long time. I want them to earn whatever they get, not just take whatever we give them. That really isn’t too much to expect IMO.

  24. It's bang on how I would expect a team to perform given these comments. We'll win some, we'll lose some, he's no real idea why we do either and there are no consequences, so he'll never change.

  25. More nonsense from Mowbray in the LT this morning before the Preston game; "Training has been exceptionally good, we just keep repeating what we do and there’s always two teams playing and you’re not sure what the opposition are going to do until the game starts" "The longer the season goes on we’ll have all the answers I hope and scoring goals and creating chances and hopefully winning matches" "That doesn’t mean that you’re always going to win, as it hasn’t a couple of times this season when we’ve had over 60 per cent possession but not managed to win games at times." Two things; it reads as if he genuinely just puts a team out, closes his eyes, crosses his fingers and hopes we get a result. "Not sure what the opposition are going to do" and "hoping we have the answers" is League Two management level stuff, at best. it's abundantly clear there is absolutely zero pressure on him, which means there are absolutely no consequences for the players if they do not perform to an acceptable standard. Any manager who is going to get us out of the League shouldn't be accused of either of the above points. He's clearly a nice guy, and perhaps he was the best manager we could expect/need to get out of League One, but we're absolutely not getting promoted with him in charge. I can see us losing tonight, and in the distance a fat lady will very quietly start warming up her vocal chords.

  26. Excellent performance, several players are now beginning to shine - Brereton, Wharton, Gallagher. Really delighted to see Wharton handling the physical side well. WE need to take this performance into the next two home games, Barnsley and Millwall need to be dealt with just as effectively. TM is going to have some selection headaches now. Preston were lucky to get nil.

  30. I know people get on their back but I for one like the iFollow Rovers commentators. Neither of them are Wendy, but still, decently knowledgeable, decently biased, seem like they get on well - it's good enough for me.

  31. Dont kid yourself into thinking Barnsley and Millwall will be easy games, Barnsley are no mugs and does a team ever routinely dispatch Millwall? No easy games in this league, but if we beat both of them I will be daring to dream, especially with Travis and Dack still to come back into the side.

  33. Holtby is at the centre of everything good we do. We are no where near the same team when he’s not playing. Massive asset to have him at the club.

  34. I think he deserves more game time now. His engine suits our style. Would be gutting to see Evan's back in when fit ahead of Davenport and Buckley

  42. It is very unfair to question Armstrongs attitude at this stage, he was anonymous on Saturday but I dont think that it was him being moody or lazy, and the game before he got 2 goals, top scorer for a side in the bottom half suggests that his performances cant be questioned, and he certainly shouldnt be moved to accommodate a player as average as Gallagher.

  43. The possession stuff is completely irrelevant, and smacks of desperation. But don't worry, as always, it's jam tomorrow,

  44. As a player, Tony must have headed an awful lot of footballs in his time, that's all I'll say on this nonsense.
