  1. Does anyone know when Kaminski can come out of isolation? I'm pretty sure he was isolating in our own half at Deepdale yesterday ?

  2. Lol, think a couple of the players live around there too. After bad home defeats there will always a big backlash. But I would argue that social media and forums aren't always representative of the majority view. A lot of fans would still argue that Alex has done a very good job for 3.5 years now with one hand tied behind his back, allowing us to compete in the top half of the Championship whilst our best players are all sold and replaced on the cheap. He has also had players foisted onto him like Nugent, and we are now in a scenario where our 5 best players - Pearson, Browne, Johnson, Davies, Fisher - are all available on free transfers next summer because the club have failed to offer them the market rate for proven Championship players. He has also continually argued for an U23 squad which has not been allowed to happen due to finance, which leads to lads like Dolan leaving the club. Basically recruitment, contracts, the entire footballing side of the club has been mismanaged for a number of years now, so with that and the lack of any reasonable backing on transfers it's very hard for Alex to continue to place us in the play-off hunt every year. We are now dropping back to where we probably belong - lower mid-table. The problem is that the ownership is not going to change, so even if we did change managers, the next manager would face all of the same problems. Was impressed with Blackburn tonight despite our ineptitude. Unlike us you have been shrewd in the loan market and actively added pace along with Championship experience to the squad. The squad looks much improved and Armstrong looks like a Premier League player at the moment. Throw Dack back into the mix, if he can hit the ground running, and you could be in for a good season.

  3. Re: Gallagher It's worth noting where he's run from to win the penalty. He's about 20 yards inside his own half when the ball is played. 6 seconds later he's being brought down in the box. Fantastic determination and pace - but even better for the fact he's had to take a couple of touches with the ball (from just inside their half) and managed to get his body across the defender to draw the foul. Great forward play.

  4. Been a bit of stick for Mowbray religiously playing 4-3-3 post lockdown and to some extent I get it as when the right players aren't available you've got to mix it up but... 4-3-3 has really solved a lot of problems we had with players who never fitted the systems we played before. Rothwell wasn't really a winger as he came inside too much and was often out of the game too much. He is also better facing goal ready to drive. left of the midfield 3 has been revolutionary for him (interestingly it's always where he saw himself) Holtby struggled to impact games on the wing, like Rothwell didn't get involved enough. As a 10 he could be out of games for long periods and you never though he was going to hurt you like Dack could. On the right of the 3 he is involved a lot more and is getting the ball frequently in key areas with runners in front of him (which is key) and naturally he has looked like the quality player we thought we were signing. Brereton - Only a subtle change in the way he is being used but still more advanced - gets him closer to the box, he isn't wasting as much time and energy tracking back, he can get closer to the box. Armstrong can play through the middle now as he is has Brereton close to him to do some hold up play. Armstrong in a 4-4-1-1 would be much less effective. Still interested to see where Dack slots back into all this.

  5. One comment I notice on their forum relating to the fact they didn't even have a corner. They were questioning when the last time they didn't have a shot on target or a corner in a game. I've had a look back over the last three years where they've failed to score and can't find any other time they've not had either a shot on goal or a corner in a game. Can't be bothered going back any further than that. Posession 25% Shots on goal 0 Corners 0 Pathetic effort.

  6. I think Lewis Holtby ought to be at the top of any list regarding new contracts as a matter of urgency. In my view, he's instrumental in everything when we're on song and badly missed when unavailable. I believe his current one expires next summer and he needs to be offered a new deal before the January window kicks in. Hopefully it's sufficiently attractive for him to want to stay. In fact imperative I'd say.

  7. To be honest if we beat both Barnsley and Milwall 1-0 with 30% possession, I would take more satisfaction over them wins that the Wycombe, Derby, Coventry & PNE games put together. Good sides at this level win ugly a lot of the time, something we need to do now. I'm not conviced we have it in us but lets see.

  8. The other bit of play I really enjoyed was Rothwell's assist for Brereton. Great burst of pace, draws in the defender and plays the ball at the perfect time to release Brereton. For a player who often plays with his head down a bit, the vision of what was going on around him was excellent.

  9. Connor Roberts (19) and Joe Jacobson (19) are the only Championship fullbacks to have created more chances than Barry Douglas (13) since his Blackburn debut. Douglas has played just four games in that period.

  10. If you look back at the highlights when we break out in the move were Armstrong hits a long shot just over the bar Nyambe is busting a gut to get up into the right wing position in case he's needed. For the Dolan goal although we've broken away down field if you look into back play another Rovers player ( Gallagher ? ) is also busting a gut coming in off the right wing to get involved with play, just in case. That level of effort, commitment, and willingness to make runs when you know you're unlikely to get the ball is all I ever ask of Rovers players. If we can do it against the better teams we'll be in with a shout.

  11. I thought Gallagher was clever in winning the penalty. He was clearly pulled outside the penalty area but he kept on going. Perhaps it's doing him a disservice though and his focus was just to score. I shouted for the penalty and red card immediately. Generally the referee was okay but Browne got away with a couple after he had been booked and the challenge on Elliott was worthy of more. Johnson also got away with one. Like you I shouted when Brereton patted the Nobber on the head after kicking Elliot. Too nice by far. Lenihan showed the right reaction for me. We have to start becoming horrible to play against.

  12. Like everyone else that had their doubts, I’m delighted that Brereton is playing well and really contributing to the team now. Long may it continue! However, I don’t think anyone could be blamed for questioning how much we spent on someone that essentially took two years to get going in all honesty! He’s playing well now and rather than focussing on what someone said ages ago, maybe it would be a better idea to enjoy one of our players playing really well? After all, if Brereton does well, it benefits everyone at the club and associated with it! (I.E fans).

  13. I actually thought Gallagher had a different role last night. There did not appear to be the relentless long, diagonal balls aimed at his head out on the wing. He spent more time infield allowing Nyambe to bomb on. He played on the shoulders of defenders more than I have seen him but, as he did for the penalty once he is free his pace and strength become apparent. He is far from the finished article but playing to his strengths help.

  14. Personal favourite on the pne forum "It was like a non league club providing a training match for a premier league side"

  15. Dont kid yourself into thinking Barnsley and Millwall will be easy games, Barnsley are no mugs and does a team ever routinely dispatch Millwall? No easy games in this league, but if we beat both of them I will be daring to dream, especially with Travis and Dack still to come back into the side.

  16. Brereton was a revelation to me....clearly enjoying his football at the moment, his delight at setting up Dolan' goal was good to see.

  17. If Armstrong lifted his head up once in a while, Ben would have twice as many goals already IMO, he’s been making a lot of really good runs without receiving the ball.

  18. I particularly enjoyed a moment late in the first half when he came out near the corner flag to take the ball off a North End player and then just thumped the ball into row Z rather than trying to play it out in a tight spot.

  19. The obvious thing with Wharton is that he is definitely a level or two above the other young centre backs that have played in the last couple of years. When Magloire, Carter and Grayson have been given a couple of first team games, they have looked like boys rather than men. Wharton has clearly massively benefitted physically from playing nearly 100 games of senior League football. Regarding Douglas, it was logical based solely on Bell's performances since he signed that he was not a competent option to bring in to try and improve the team defensively as he cannot defend one on one. Especially if it was specifically to negate the threat of a player who he played against in the same fixture last season and said player scored 2 of 3 goals! Whether Douglas is good enough defensively, we cannot be sure at this stage but he certainly appears (as did Cunningham) to be levels above Bell who is lucky to still be at the club.

  20. Best keeper we have had since Friedel. Totally exceptional. Probs the one player in the team who you would say, even more than Arma, will have big Premier League interest come the summer. You can see why he is in the Belgium national team squad. Great signing, can't really believe we pulled it off.

  21. Entirely agree with Holtby. He's such a clever player. For Brereton's goal he has a player to his left and he gives the Nobbers 'the eyes' by looking at him. As they anticipated Holtby passing to him he played Brereton in without even looking at him. There aren't too many players who can do that.

  22. I agree, the front 3 were much more fluid last night, regularly inter changing positions. They played more inside than I can remember and this made them difficult to pick up and created the space outside for Douglas and Nyambe as you say. Holtby is key for me, he holds it all together in the centre of midfield and has a fantastic range of passing and vision. As was said last night, he resembles Tugay more with each passing game. Just a shame we weren't there to witness it and rub a bit of salt in afterwards in the pub!

  23. We shouldn't get too carried away just because we beat a poor 10 man outfit from Bamber Bridge.. Remember, in the words of old Shakespeare, "One swallow, a summer doth not make" (or something like that).. But my goodness, it was great making North End swallow ;) Suck it up, nobbers! Onwards and hopefully upwards for the Rovers. COYB!

  24. I literally just cannot seem to get enough of this win, half pissed on brandy and beer just ordered a massive pizza, I shall sleep happy tonight!!!! Dolan scoring has just absolutely silenced the nobbers, I do not think they can possibly recover from this. That backflip....!!! The best bit? Watching mowbray just sit in the stands calmly sipping water, what a magician! One to remember.

  25. The Key to us playing well or not seems to be us playing 1 CDM or 2. When we play 1 we boss it when we play 2 eg. Johnson and Trybull or Evans and Johnson etc we don't perform. Rothwell and Holtby together with a CDM is absoloutly perfect.

  27. Lovely afternoon to be at work here in Preston although a lot of my colleagues seem to be avoiding me for some reason. A lot of very unhappy, scowling faces today. Even heard a new conspiracy theory that Paul Gallagher gave the nod to Rovers when PNE were dithering over Dolan's future. Oh happy days!

  28. I genuinely think we would. Think the whole point of the signing was to develop him and sell on for a bigger fee, don't think we'd sell him now he's starting to show his ability.

  29. I don't know about anyone else, but I don't really want or need to see a "ball playing centre back". Get your toe, head, knee what ever on things and give it to the lads in midfield who can influence things further up the pitch. He's had a couple of good games coming in has Wharton, and at least should be above Williams in the pecking order now, as I think we all know as soon as Ayala is fit that Wharton is back on the bench.

  31. I thought and said Brereton would never come good, or words to that effect. I have to admit that he has become a very good player for us and one of the first men picked. However, imo, that will never justify an outlay of £7M on a nineteen year old 2 years ago in our position! For way less than that we could have had a real contributor for 2 seasons and , who knows, we might have gone up! But we have him, he's playing really well and that's all about it. I won't be saying anymore on this because I know the people it will bring me into conflict with and frankly, I can't be bothered. I'm still on a high after that win and I'm going to try to stay there as long as poss!

  32. This one has got banana skin written all over it. We need to be out of the traps very quickly. An early goal would make things much, much more comfortable for our style of play.

  34. Agree completely - Holtby makes a huge difference, and my son and I discussed the same about him playing a similar role to the great Tugay whilst watching last night. Brereton - thinking back to watching him in the cup game at Birmingham before lockdown and he was terrible - looked like he had completely (mentally and/or physically) "lost it" in that game and it was very sad to see, taking him off was a mercy act. But what a transformation now - confidence, pace, power and the potential to become a major player ( a few more goals to come this season hopefully), and getting better in every game. Other stand out positive (of many) was Wharton - a confident performance at CB, looking like someone who can really defend and understands the role. Good to see that every time he moved back or forwards to play the ball he immediately looked where Lenihan was and made sure they were in line and together ... I'd be happy for him to keep his place.

  35. So pleased for the lad. PNE players definitely know all his tricks and how to counter them but Dolan was unplayable when he came on. Very encouraging for the future.

  36. You're getting slightly carried away there, "routinely dispatching" easier looking opposition after seemingly building up a bit of momentum isn't really something we've managed in the Championship under Mowbray before.

  37. Gets even better. I hear we are signing that Lewis Travis and superstar Bradley Dack to help with the new year push.

  39. What a bloody shame nights like tonight he hasn't got the fans singing his name, cos he sure as hell deserves it. And slowly some of the doubters are starting to believe ?

  40. Lewis Holtby is a Rolls Royce of a player in this league. Mentally head and shoulders above anything I've seen this season. I've not seen a more effortless, classy display for some time from a Rovers midfielder. Dont think a Preston player could even smell him.

  41. Suck that up Nobbers, brilliant. As poor as we may have been in recent years against them, we've never been anywhere near as shit as that!

  42. I would start with last night's starting XI. Numerically, our list of absences should be no worse and at least one better than for PNE. Barnsley are a good footballing side let down by lack of strength in depth. People are saying the Tykes will come and shut up shop but I am not sure they have the personnel capable of doing that. If we start out low key, Barnsley will take the game to us and certainly have the players to hurt us. Again a high energy start on the front foot is needed from Rovers to avoid any calamities. We should win this one but 'should' doesn't mean we have an automatic right to Barnsley handing us the 3 points gift wrapped with an addition to the goals scored and goal difference columns.

  44. Probably the best performance under Mowbray for me. Our utter dominance was great see after several barren seasons there. Lots of really good performances but I thought both of our full backs were excellent and at times played more like wingers. We simply have to get Nyambe on a long deal soon. Wharton is growing in each game and I'll be massively disappointed if he leaves him out for Ayala when he is fit. The challenge now is keeping this going - there have been too many false dawns under Mowbray.

  45. A personal fave:- As I have just been reminded by my Rovers colleagues, Blackburn have scored more goals at Deepdale this season than North End !!!! That is alarming to say the least .

  47. Just reading the Preston forum "Our pathetic performance aside Blackburn look very good. That’s what happens when you invest in pace up top, are ambitious in your recruitment both permanently and on loan, and improve your squad year on year. The team improves." Things you love to see
