2011/12 Man Of The Match: Rovers v Arsenal

Finally a win for Rovers, with a 4-3 victory over Arsenal at Ewood. An end-to-end game, in which Arsenal twice led, finished with Rovers claiming victory in a tight, nerve-jangling finale.

The game saw Yakubu make his debut, and what a start to his Rovers career. Two goals in his first game, the first a finish of the highest quality, showing why he was once a feared Premier League striker. Can he regain that reputation? Have Everton slipped up letting him go so cheap? Here's hoping!

With his match-winning display Yakubu secured the BRFCS Man of the Match award on his debut, taking 39% of the vote, ahead of Paul Robinson, who took 29%. Robinson made several key saves late on in the game, which helped Rovers to 3 points, although he also very nearly did give away a penalty to Walcott late on.

Another player deserving of a mention has to be Jason Lowe, who got 13% of the vote in his full debut, most of which was spent out of position at right back. Hopefully we can see him progress from here.
