    Summary

After failing to establish himself with his first two clubs Burgin became a fixture at Halifax, a steady, sure tackling, speedy full back who positioned well and brought balance to a team. Initially he was brought to Ewood by Gordon Lee to play at right back but when Mick Heaton could not switch to the left hand side Burgin moved and settled in comfortably. The Rovers were promoted to the Second Division in his first season but it was not anticipated that he would have any trauma adjusting to the higher division. Unhappily no-one found out because Burgin collided with his team-mate Mick Hickman in an early game and received a career ending knee injury. He became a licensee, then a driver for the sweets manufacturer Barker & Dobson but later became  janitor at Queen Elizabeth Grammar School. He played one game for Blackburn Northern in which he took two wickets.
