    Summary

Despite an illustrious career with the England youth team Finnigan failed to harness his ability until Crystal Palace recruited him from non league football. Well built and comfortable on the ball he was versatile enough to play several positions and could change within the game without a problem. His move to Blackburn was a classic example of the wrong player at the wrong club. Hampered by injury, inconsistent and in a different culture from his native London he was ill at ease. He accused the fans of racism and certainly there was a lack of appreciation of his skills. A move to Hull increased the downward spiral of his career and in 1994 he was facing the Bow Street JPs charged with possessing heroin with intent to supply. Acquitted he was convicted of the lesser charge of possession. Although Fulham stood by him during the trial it was deemed best if he left London and he finished his career in Scotland with Falkirk. Retiring he opened a sports' agency with his old Palace team mate, Andy Gray, using the name of "Wright, Wright, Wright".
