Davenport grew up supporting Manchester City and was a ball boy on the day that they won the Premiership with a goal in the last minute of the season. He represented the club in the FA Youth Cup of 2016 and 2017 but his path to the first team was barred by the presence of so many world class players. He spent half a season playing in the Championship and was then signed  by the Rovers on a four year contract as part of the policy to sign young players whose value would increase.
