An emotional player with great strength, he was a rugged if erratic defender but an inspirational character. A move to Fiorentina brought him honours but it was his move to Rangers that established his reputation. A stuttering start in which he underwent surgery on his Achilles tendon on three occasions was forgotten as he led the club to successive Scottish championships. In his final season the club achieved the treble in domestic competitions and Amoruso said goodbye with the goal that completed the hat trick in the Scottish cup final. His start with the Rovers was as traumatic as his first months in Glasgow. Troubled by knee problems he appeared to find the pace of the English game too great but his early season departure for knee surgery left the situation unproven. Coming back for his second season was almost a mirror image and a three month spell for further surgery resulted in him being left completely out of the picture. Ever a man for the flamboyant he proposed to his model girlfriend during an edition of the Italian version of the reality TV show "The Farm". He is probably the only Blackburn player ever to have his own cookery book published. He returned to Italy when the Rovers released him, keeping occupied in the restaurant he co-owned, Semolina in Florence. He had a trial with Vicenza but could not agree terms. After making a come back in San Marino he decided to move into coaching and held talks with Valletta (Malta) and Arezzo (Italy) about vacant coaching positions. Ever the media star he teamed up with Gianluca Vialli in a reality show where the pair went into hopeless local amateur sides and attempted to improve them.
