    Summary

The son of the Finnish international goalkeeper Goran Enckelman genetics dictated that Enckelman would become a goalkeeper. Taken on by Aston Villa to understudy David James he soon found himself deputy to his boyhood hero Peter Schmeichel. When he took over in the first team he became accepted as a sound, unspectacular player but his position was undermined when in a derby game with Birmingham he missed Mellberg's thrown in and the referee decided that he had made contact and awarded an own goal. Although he was not immediately left out the subsequent arrival of Thomas Sorenson and the advance of Stefan Postma made him third choice. A loan spell at Blackburn was followed by a permanent transfer but he had little opportunity behind Brad Friedel. The arrival of Jason Brown condemned him to being third string again and he left for Cardiff, where improbably he appeared in the FA Cup Final, albeit a losing one. After finishing his playing career he went working for the carriers DHL, where he occasionally played for the depot team.
